That does not make every Xbox 360 game inaccessible: previously purchased downloads remain playable and re-downloadable, discs still work on Xbox 360, and a selective set of titles is available through newer Xbox stores. Here are the most useful titles to look for—and how to check which route still works for each one.
What the Xbox 360 Store closure changed
Microsoft announced that new purchases of games, DLC, and other entertainment content through the Xbox 360 Store on console and the Xbox 360 Marketplace would stop on July 29, 2024. The closure ended purchases through those storefronts, not access to every game. In its August 17, 2023 Xbox Wire announcement, Xbox said: “If you purchased the game digitally or have a physical disc, you can still jump in and play.” Previously purchased content remains playable and can be re-downloaded; Xbox 360 discs remain playable on an Xbox 360 console.

Xbox also said hundreds of backward-compatible Xbox 360 and original Xbox games and DLC would remain purchasable on Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, and Xbox.com. Compatibility and sale availability are title-specific, however. A game’s appearance in an old Xbox 360 catalog does not prove it is currently for sale or compatible with newer consoles.
Xbox 360 titles worth seeking out
The titles below are worth investigating if you are building an Xbox 360 library or looking for games from the platform’s catalog. Xbox’s final price-reduction update named them among Xbox 360 listings; that historical sale list is a catalog reference, not a current price list or a ranking of the best games. Check the current listing and edition before you buy.

#1 Best Overall
- The Largest Collection of Classic SEGA Titles. Players will trip back in time with favorites including Sonic the Hedgehog, Streets of Rage, Columns, Eco the Dolphin and four titles from the Phantasy Star series, to name a few.
- Several Unlockable Titles. Included in the collection are arcade favorites such as Congo Bongo, Altered Beast, Zaxxon and more.
- All Titles Upgraded to Hi-Def. The classic 2D style never looked so good! Each title has been converted to hi-def (720p) and will be a blast to play using the intuitive controls of the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 systems.
- Massive Multiplayer Options. Friends can play the 2-Player classics together in select games from the same console at home.
Child of Light
Consider this if you want a single-player, story-led game rather than a title built around competitive online play. Before purchasing digitally, check whether the specific listing is still available for your console and region. If you are considering a disc, verify that an Xbox 360 physical edition is being offered and that the listing is for the correct platform.
Trials Fusion
This is a candidate for players drawn to precision-based, challenge-focused play. Its inclusion in the final 360 sale update confirms it appeared in that historical catalog, but does not establish its present digital availability, compatibility, or whether any online features still function. Check those details for the edition you plan to use.

The Dishwasher and The Dishwasher: VS
These two names offer a pair to investigate if you are interested in action games from the Xbox 360 catalog. Do not assume that finding one means the other is available, compatible, or included in the same release: check each title separately. The historical sale update listed both, but it does not confirm current listings or physical editions.
Charlie Murder
Charlie Murder is another title named in Xbox’s final sale update. Treat that listing as evidence of its place in the historical Xbox 360 catalog, not proof of current sale or a disc release. If online play matters to you, check whether the publisher still supports the game’s servers before buying.
Rank #3
- The biggest, most dynamic and most diverse open world ever created and now packed with layers of new detail.
- Grand Theft Auto V blends storytelling and gameplay in new ways as players repeatedly jump in and out of the lives of the game's three lead characters, playing all sides of the game's interwoven story.
- Grand Theft Auto V also comes with Grand Theft Auto Online, the dynamic and ever-evolving Grand Theft Auto universe for multiple players.
How to check whether a game is still obtainable
- Look for a current listing. Search the Xbox store on your Xbox One or Xbox Series X|S, or on Xbox.com, for the exact game name. Confirm that the listing is for the game itself, the platform you intend to use, and your region; a search result or old sale page alone is not enough.
- Check backward compatibility. If you plan to play on Xbox One or Xbox Series X|S, confirm that the exact Xbox 360 title is listed as backward-compatible. Compatibility is selective, and the promise that hundreds of games remain available does not cover every 360 game.
- Check for a physical Xbox 360 edition. For a used disc, verify the platform edition, region compatibility, condition, and whether the listing includes the disc and any required components. The closure does not establish that a particular game had a physical release or that copies are in stock.
- Check your existing library. If you bought the game digitally before the closure, sign in to the account that owns it and look for it in your library or download history. Xbox said previously purchased content could be re-downloaded.
- Check online dependence separately. Xbox says multiplayer and friends connections continue only when the individual game’s publisher still supports its online servers. Store closure by itself does not tell you whether a particular game’s servers remain active.
Can I still play Xbox 360 games after July 2024?
Yes. Games you already purchased digitally remain playable and re-downloadable, and Xbox 360 discs can still be played on an Xbox 360. On Xbox One and Xbox Series X|S, play requires that the specific title be backward-compatible; only selected Xbox 360 games qualify.

Xbox said hundreds of backward-compatible Xbox 360 and original Xbox games and DLC would remain purchasable on Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, and Xbox.com after the 360 storefront closed. That does not mean every compatible title is currently listed for sale. Check the current listing for the exact game and your region before relying on digital availability.
