No. GameStop auctioned the items as a one-off charity lot in July 2025, and Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals later reported that the lot had been handed to its winning bidder. There is no current auction for the stapler documented in the available reporting.

The auction raised $250,000 for Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals, according to the charity’s August 12, 2025 announcement. The charity said the handover took place at a GameStop event on August 7. It did not name the winning bidder.
What was included in the auction lot?
The lot was more than the black stapler used by the GameStop associate. GameStop bundled it with the Switch 2 whose screen had been repaired, the marked retail packaging, and the individual staple removed from the console. GameSpot reported that a letter from GameStop CEO Ryan Cohen authenticated the items in its July 10, 2025 coverage.

GameSpot said bidding was scheduled to close on July 16, 2025. Any bid figure reported while the auction was open was not the final sale price; the charity later reported the amount raised as $250,000.
How did a stapler damage a Switch 2?
In June 2025, GameSpot reported that a GameStop store in Staten Island, New York, had stapled receipts to Nintendo Switch 2 boxes. A staple pierced the packaging and damaged the screen of a console inside. The box’s thin cardboard and the console’s position screen-up beneath the flap help explain how the staple could reach the display.

GameStop told GameSpot the incident was limited to one store and that the very small fraction of affected customers were swiftly given replacements. That wording is the company’s characterization quoted by the outlet, not a published count of damaged consoles. The report does not establish a widespread Switch 2 defect.

Why did the incident become a charity auction?
GameStop turned the unusual mishap into a fundraiser for Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals. The charity’s president and CEO, Aimee J. Daily, Ph.D., said in the August 2025 announcement: “What began as a viral moment was transformed by GameStop into a quarter of a million dollars for children’s hospitals.”
The phrase “Staplegate” was used for the viral incident, but the auction’s lasting significance is the money raised for the charity—not an ongoing opportunity to acquire the collectible.
