Mage Arena uses spoken words as its spellcasting input: say the correct words to cast attacks and other magic in online battles. Steam’s listing showed the game at $2.99 when accessed on October 8, 2026, but the price and review totals can change. It remains marked Early Access.
How Mage Arena’s voice spellcasting works
In Mage Arena, speaking the correct words is the central way to cast spells. The Steam description lists fireballs, frostbolts, wormholes and arcane blasts, and says players channel their voice to use them. That makes a working PC microphone a practical accessory, though the Steam listing does not specify a required model or microphone specifications.

The game is developed and published by jrsjams and was released in Early Access on July 24, 2025. Its Steam listing describes battles for up to four players per team, as well as one-on-one duels in the Mage Colosseum. In team play, the stated objective is to infiltrate the opposing base and capture its flag. Players can also craft useful items from resources found on the island. Steam store listing
Price and Steam reviews: what the figures mean
As accessed on October 8, 2026, Steam listed Mage Arena at $2.99, with 90% positive from 11,536 English reviews and 80% positive from 67 recent reviews. These are listing figures from that date, not fixed ratings or a guarantee of the price in every region or at a later time.
#1 Best Overall
- Players can play as a Wizard, Warlock, Beast master or Priestess; each with their own unique strategies and style of play. The game is fast-paced and exciting, with tough tactical decisions every turn
- Build a custom spell book for your mage, with over 300 spells to choose from!
- New outdoor Arena Board and 2 new beautiful Spell book designs
- Everything you need to play is in the box
- For 2 players age 13 and up
The headline’s 92% positive rating from 2,600 reviews is not the current listing state. Notebookcheck’s July 29, 2025 report, updated July 30, cited SteamDB figures of 95% positive from 2,300 reviews during the game’s first four to five days. The older and newer percentages refer to different dates and review totals. Notebookcheck’s July 2025 report
That report also attributed a temporary discount explanation to developer jrsjams: “Due to a large number of bugs the game has temporarily been discounted to $2.99. It will be raised to $4.99 once stable.” This is a historical statement, not confirmation of the current price or a present-day plan to raise it.

Early Access status and launch-era caveats
Steam still labels Mage Arena Early Access and warns that it is incomplete and may change. The developer’s store notes say player feedback will help guide content development. Those notes estimated an Early Access period of “About 3 to 6 months,” but that estimate should not be treated as a current release schedule; the listing remains Early Access as of October 8, 2026.
Notebookcheck’s July 2025 launch coverage reported issues including stuck movement, spell misfires, audio conflicts, unstable lobbies and occasional restarts after crashes. Those are observations from launch-era coverage, not a current independent test or evidence that every issue persists. The same report cited a historical Steam concurrent-player peak of 13,450 after launch; that peak is not a current player count.
