Challenge Expert 1 in Battlefield 6’s campaign asks you to complete one campaign mission without firing a gun. The listed reward is the Polar Nexus weapon camo. The safe way to meet the objective is to play the whole mission using only melee attacks, grenades, and gadgets, and to avoid conventional firearms at every point, including optional shots during vehicle and scripted sections.
What the listing permits
The assignment wording is “Complete a Mission without firing a gun (melee, grenades and gadgets only).” Those three categories are the only actions the listing names as allowed. Everything else that deals damage with a conventional firearm falls outside the objective.
The listing does not define every edge case, and the game’s tracking logic is not documented publicly. Treat the objective conservatively:
- Avoid: any conventional firearm, including optional shots at enemies that are not required to advance.
- Avoid: firing during vehicle sequences, even when a vehicle is the only way to cover ground quickly.
- Not established: whether a scripted encounter that seems to require a weapon is exempt. The listing names no such exception, so plan for every scripted section to be completed without firing.
Choosing a campaign mission
Any campaign mission you can finish without firing is a valid choice in principle. The missions differ in how much combat pressure they create when you rely only on melee, grenades, and gadgets, and in how much waiting or route avoidance they require. Compare candidates on three questions:
#1 Best Overall
- Everything You Want to Play: Choose from the largest library of PlayStation content
- Redeem Against Anything on PlayStation Store: Choose from thousands of games, add-ons, subscriptions and more
- Download Purchases Remotely: Add your purchases to your download queue from anywhere online –and start playing sooner
- Choose From a Range of Gift Cards: From 5 to 100 to buy your favourite games, add-ons or subscriptions
- Download, Play, Delete and Re-install: Content purchased from PlayStation Store is added to your library, as well as being downloaded to your console. So you can delete any digital game from your consol
- Do the required scripted sections let you progress without firing?
- How many enemies must you clear with melee, grenades, or gadgets before you can advance?
- How much waiting, backtracking, or route avoidance does the mission demand?
A secondary community guide recommends Nile Guard as a relatively forgiving option for this challenge. That is a player recommendation, not an official one, and no available source confirms it works for every player, platform, or patch. If a mission leaves you little room to maneuver, lowering the difficulty gives you more time to wait out enemies and reposition. This is general gameplay advice rather than a rule attached to the assignment.
Step-by-step approach
- Start the campaign and select a mission that meets the three checks above. Nile Guard is a commonly suggested starting point.
- Set the difficulty to a level that lets you wait out or outmaneuver enemies, if you need that room.
- For each combat encounter, use melee, grenades, or gadgets only. If you run out of options, retreat to a position where you can wait for enemies to come to you.
- In vehicle or scripted sections, skip optional shots and look for a route past enemies rather than through them.
- Complete the mission, then check whether Challenge Expert 1 has registered as complete on the assignment screen.
If the challenge does not register
Some players report finishing a mission without firing and not receiving credit. These are anecdotal reports. They do not show how often this happens, or whether it affects every platform or build.

- All-out war, fast-paced close-quarters combat, tactical destruction – Welcome to the definitive Battlefield experience
- THE NEW STANDARD OF FPS COMBAT: With overhauled gunplay and tactical movement, from crouch sprint to drag and revive, every shot and movement is more instinctual and precise
- MORE WAYS TO BATTLE: Victory, however you envision it; Seize glory in iconic, large-scale modes including Conquest, Breakthrough, and Rush; Fight in iconic locations all over the world including Cairo, Brooklyn, Gibraltar and more
- Restart the mission. A commonly suggested fix is to return to the campaign menu, restart that mission, and complete it again without firing. Its effectiveness is not confirmed by the available sources.
- Check the update notes. EA’s update 1.2.1.0 lists fixes for the assignment tracker and for incorrect tracking across several weekly and assignment-based challenges. Those notes do not name Challenge Expert 1, and they do not say the no-gun criterion was fixed specifically.
The available reports do not establish the game’s exact tracking behavior for this challenge, the frequency of credit failures, or whether any single mission is the best choice across platforms and patches.
