It mixed brand-new reveals with trailers, gameplay footage, release dates and updates on games already in development. The headline moments were the first cinematic teaser for Borderlands 4, a release-date reveal for Indiana Jones and the Great Circle, and a run of Xbox-related news that included Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 campaign gameplay, Towerborne’s early-access announcement and Starfield content. This retrospective covers what was shown in 2024 and what the dates announced at the time meant. Those dates are not a current release calendar, so check each publisher or storefront before acting on them.
What counted as an announcement at Opening Night Live
The show’s official program listed two kinds of content: “New game announcements” and “Trailer/gameplay reveals.” In practice, most of the broadcast sat somewhere between those two. Some segments introduced a game for the first time. Others showed new footage for a title that had been known for months, or announced a date, a platform or an expansion for a project already on the calendar. It is worth separating the three when you read any recap of the night.
- First reveals: a game or project shown to the public for the first time.
- Trailer and gameplay updates: new footage for a known project, often cinematic trailers or playable segments.
- Release dates and windows: a firm date, a year-long window, or a platform or early-access detail for a game already in progress.
New reveals and first looks
Borderlands 4
Borderlands 4 received its first cinematic teaser at the show. GameSpot’s round-up of the night placed it among the main reveals, and the coverage at the time expected the game in 2025. That window is the only date that was given in the coverage used here, and it should be read as a 2024 expectation rather than a confirmed release.
Infinity Nikki
GameSpot also listed Infinity Nikki among the event’s highlights, alongside the Borderlands 4 teaser and the Indiana Jones date reveal.

Two things stand out. Dates were spread across the whole of 2024 and 2025, so the show was as much a preview of the next 12 to 18 months as a report on that night. And some of the games in the table, including Sonic X Shadow Generations and Fatal Fury: City of the Wolves, were tied to a specific storefront, which is a detail that changes between announcement and launch.

Checking these announcements today
The dates in this article reflect the 2024 coverage. Before you act on any of them, work through this checklist.
- Open the publisher’s official site or the storefront page for the game and confirm the current release date.
- Check the platform list on that page, since a game announced for one platform in 2024 may have since changed.
- For early-access titles, look for a note on whether the game has left early access and what version is live.
- For expansions and DLC, confirm the expansion’s release date on the base game’s storefront page, not only in a 2024 article.
If the page you find shows a different date than the one in this article, the storefront page is the more recent source.
