Roblox has not confirmed a chat-specific outage behind reports of delayed messages, hashtags, or messages that will not send. Roblox’s filters intentionally block or rephrase some text, while delivery can also be affected by account settings, permissions, rate limits, or other issues. The status page showed all systems operational when checked on October 8, 2026, but that does not rule out intermittent or localized trouble.
What the hashtags and delays can mean
Roblox says Experience Chat is filtered to block inappropriate content and personal information. If a word or phrase appears as hashtags, Roblox says it was blocked by the filters; hashtags alone are not proof of a client bug. Some messages may instead be automatically rephrased into safer language. Roblox identifies categories such as discriminatory speech, bullying, extremism, violence, sexual content, personal information, and directions to move conversations off-platform as content its filters address.
A message that is slow to arrive or does not send has several possible explanations. Roblox’s creator documentation lists filter-processing failure, flood checking, privacy settings, channel permissions, excessive message length, and moderation timeout among the possible send statuses. Those are documented possibilities, not a diagnosis of the current player reports.
Check account access and communication settings
Roblox says users must complete an age check to use chat, and communication access can also depend on parental consent, account communication settings, and regional restrictions. Review the account’s communication controls and, for a child’s account, the relevant parental controls. Roblox explains its current chat requirements and settings in Experience Chat.

Try the keyboard workaround only if chat will not open
On a computer with an international keyboard, Roblox documents trying the backslash key to open chat if the usual key does not work. This addresses an input-method issue; it will not remove content filtering or fix a service-side delivery delay. Roblox also mentions changing regional keyboard settings, but that can affect other programs, so it is not a universal, consequence-free fix.

Check the Roblox status page for a reported platform incident. When checked on October 8, 2026, it showed all systems operational. It also listed a broad issue from October 5 as resolved that day; the notice did not identify a chat-specific problem.

What Roblox has changed—and what that does not establish
On March 5, 2026, Roblox announced it was rephrasing some profanity into safer language as an initial step toward reducing strings of hashtags. The announcement does not say that a current chat delay or failed-send problem has been fixed. Roblox also reported that experiments the prior year using in-experience text-chat notifications and time-outs were associated with a 5% reduction in filtered chat messages and a 6% reduction in consequences from abuse reports. Those are Roblox-reported experimental results, not independent measurements or a guarantee of what an individual player will see. See Rethinking Chat for Fun, Gameplay, and Civility.

For creators diagnosing their own chat implementation
Developers can inspect the documented TextChatMessageStatus values to distinguish outcomes such as TextFilterFailed, Floodchecked, InvalidPrivacySettings, InvalidTextChannelPermissions, MessageTooLong, and ModerationTimeout. The statuses can point toward different causes in an experience’s implementation, but ordinary players should not assume they can see these API-level values in every game. Roblox documents them in the TextChatMessageStatus reference.
Is this a confirmed Roblox-wide chat bug?
No chat-specific incident or estimate of affected users is established by Roblox’s status information checked on October 8, 2026. A normal status page does not rule out intermittent or localized problems, and reports of tagging or delays do not by themselves reveal the cause. Roblox’s Terms of Use, effective May 19, 2026, describe communication features and automated text-filter systems; they do not identify a cause for these reports.
