The js13kGames 2023 Top 10
The organizers published the ten best games of the twelfth yearly edition on October 6, 2023, in the announcement js13kGames 2023 winners announced! The list is ordered as follows:

The announcement, written by Andrzej Mazur, frames the list around the constraint that defines the event: “The best entries from the twelfth yearly edition of the js13kGames competition were announced – check out those awesome games and their extremely talented developers for fitting those into 13 kilobyte zip packages each!”
What the competition is and how big the field was
js13kGames describes itself as a JavaScript coding competition for HTML5 game developers. The 2023 edition ran from August 13 to September 13, 2023. Every entry had to fit within a 13-kilobyte ZIP package. The organizers’ voting announcement, published September 15, 2023 in Voting is open!, stated that the edition received 163 entries.

Because the field is built around a hard size limit, these are compact browser games. Judging rewarded what a small package could deliver, not just the scale of the production.
What the 13 KB limit measures
The rule applies to the ZIP package that a player downloads, not to every file a developer wrote. The winning entry’s page reports a 12.94 KB source size and a total game size of 13,249 bytes, which is consistent with the package fitting the limit. When comparing entries, check which measurement a page reports before treating two figures as the same kind of number.

How the judging was broken down
The competition judged entries on six criteria: Innovation, Theme, Gameplay, Graphics, Audio, and Controls. The organizers’ follow-up article, Criteria rankings and expert top picks, published October 27, 2023, lists five leading games for each criterion. Those per-criterion lists are separate from the overall Top 10, so a game can lead one category without finishing high overall.
Use the two kinds of ranking for different questions. Overall position answers which entry the judging as a whole rated highest. A single-criterion ranking answers which entry stood out on one aspect, such as audio or controls.

Path to Glory: the first-place entry
Path to Glory is listed on its official entry page as a desktop and mobile category action-adventure shooter. The player takes the role of a lone soldier as the Kingdom of Syldavia faces an invasion by the Northern Empire in 1254 AD.
