Bethesda fixed one specific Starfield Groundpounder progression problem: the door to Lezama could remain locked after a player left the location during the quest and returned. The fix appears in the January 30, 2024 update notes. It does not confirm that every reported Groundpounder objective issue is fixed. If your symptom is different, try Bethesda’s general mission troubleshooting steps, starting with an earlier save and a refresh of the affected area.
Which Groundpounder bug did Bethesda fix?
In its January 30, 2024 Starfield Update 1.9.51.0 notes, Bethesda wrote: “Fixed an issue where the door to Lezama could sometimes be locked if the player left the location during the quest and came back later.”
That note applies to a specific sequence: leaving the location during the quest, returning, and finding the Lezama door locked. If that is what is blocking you, make sure the game is updated and try returning to the door. The note does not describe a fix for every objective that might fail to advance.
What to try if a different objective will not advance
Bethesda’s general mission troubleshooting guidance offers several steps. These are not guaranteed Groundpounder-specific fixes, so try them in a way that preserves your progress.

- Start your journey by customizing your appearance and deciding your Background and Traits
- Venture through the stars and explore more than 1000 planets
- Pilot and command the ship of your dreams.
- Load an earlier save. Choose a save from before the objective became stuck. Keep your current save if possible so you can return to it if the earlier one does not help.
- Refresh the affected area. Fast travel away and return, or enter a separate instanced area and then come back. Check whether the objective updates after the area reloads.
- Wait 72 in-game hours. Bethesda lists this as a way to reset NPC-related behavior. It may be relevant if the blockage involves an NPC, but is not a universal mission reset.
- Restart the game and system. Close the game fully, restart your platform, then load the save and check the objective again.
- Check mods and game files where applicable. Bethesda recommends removing mods and verifying game files. The available options vary by platform; use the relevant platform’s file-verification process.
What players report about “Defeat the Spacer Invasion”
Community posts describe Groundpounder problems using phrases such as “Defeat the Spacer Invasion.” One report says the issue was encountered on PC and Xbox, but an individual post cannot establish how common it is or confirm an official diagnosis. A separate 2023 Reddit post suggests leaving the research center and landing again to prompt a ship encounter. Treat that as an unverified player workaround, not a Bethesda fix, and preserve an earlier save before trying it.

Bethesda’s May 14, 2026 Update 1.16.242 notes list other quest fixes, including Into the Void and Lone Wolf, but do not name Groundpounder. Its June 11, 2026 Update 1.16.244 notes describe stability, gameplay, and UI fixes without naming Groundpounder either.
