Which is best for online racing?
For structured, ongoing competition, iRacing is the strongest match based on the official feature descriptions: it offers official series, leagues and team events, with membership content for ranked Rookie series. Assetto Corsa supports multiplayer, while DiRT Rally 2.0 offers several online modes, but their listings describe different kinds of play rather than the same organized racing structure.
One important current change affects DiRT Rally 2.0: Steam says Racenet Clubs became unavailable on July 8, 2026, after the website hosting Clubs was sunset. The listing says Time Trial, My Team Career and Quick Play Multiplayer remain playable. Check the game’s listing for the service notice.

Can you play with a controller, or do you need a wheel?
A steering wheel is optional according to the available product descriptions, not a universal requirement. iRacing’s Steam listing says a gaming wheel or gamepad can be used. Assetto Corsa lists keyboard, joypad, joystick and steering wheels among its controls. iRacing Support also lists input options including a gamepad, joystick, mouse or touchscreen. iRacing’s listing and Assetto Corsa’s listing provide the cited input details.

How to choose between them
- Pick iRacing if your main goal is organized online competition and you are comfortable with membership plus separately licensed cars and tracks.
- Pick Assetto Corsa if you want circuit racing with single-player and multiplayer options, customization and modding.
- Pick DiRT Rally 2.0 if you want rally or rallycross, stage challenges and team management, and its remaining online modes meet your needs.
