Escape From Tarkov has not become a zombie horror game. The official channel describes a seasonal Halloween event that dresses the existing game in outbreak imagery: a decorated Hideout, pumpkins that hand out treats on every location, and in-world messaging that frames the situation as a biological disaster. That is a temporary layer on top of the game, not a change of genre. The official posts available for this article do not confirm that the event is running on October 8, 2026, so check the channel for a dated announcement before planning around it.
What the official channel announced
The official Escape from Tarkov Telegram channel announced a Halloween event with several visible changes. The table below separates what the posts describe from what other sources add.
| Element | Status in the sourced material | Source |
|---|---|---|
| Halloween Hideout decoration | Announced as part of the event | Official channel archive |
| Pumpkins with treats | Announced on all locations | Official channel archive |
| Outbreak messaging | In-world messaging describes a biological disaster and warns players not to fire on uninfected people | Official channel archive |
| Halloween with Zombies content | Stated to have remained in the game during tests of a new matchmaking system | Official channel archive |
| Event tasks, achievements, Hideout design, pumpkin spawns | Stated to end with the event | Official channel archive |
The outbreak framing is the only part of the event that carries a narrative. The posts do not describe a new combat system, a new enemy set, or a new progression track tied to zombies, so readers should not expect a full survival-horror mode from this event alone.
Why this is an event, not a genre change
A lasting genre change would show up as permanent content, a permanent mode, or a permanent change to how raids work. The official material points the other way. Event tasks, achievements, the Hideout design, and pumpkin spawns are all described as ending with the event. The Halloween layer is therefore built to be removed, and the base game’s core loop is not described as having been replaced.

The end date and what it does not tell you
The official channel gave an end notice for the event: November 11 at 9:00 AM GMT / 4:00 AM EST. The excerpt that surfaced does not state the year. Read that date as the end of whichever Halloween event the post announced, not as a schedule for the current season. A post that gives an end time without a year is not enough to confirm that the event is active now.
The matchmaking test note
A separate official post said Halloween with Zombies remained in the game while a new matchmaking system was being tested. The stated goals of those tests were shorter raid searches and fewer matchmaking errors and disconnects. These are the developers’ stated goals, not reported results. The post does not say whether the tests improved either measure, and no figures are given. The post also does not establish the year of the test, so treat it as a dated announcement whose season needs to be checked against the channel archive.

Halloween is a recurring event
Halloween events have appeared before. The community-maintained Events page on the Escape from Tarkov wiki records Halloween 2025 with decorations, pumpkins with sweets, and a scythe-wielding Tagilla. Those mechanics belong to 2025. They are useful as a reference for what a Halloween event has looked like, but they should not be assumed to return unchanged in a later year.

How to confirm whether the event is live
- Open the official channel archive and scroll to the most recent posts that mention Halloween.
- Check that the post includes a year. If it gives only a month or an end time, treat it as unverified.
- Compare any end notice with the post date. An event is only current if its announced end falls after the date you are checking.
- If no dated post for the current season exists, assume the event status is unconfirmed and check the game’s own in-game news before relying on any Halloween mechanic.
