In Dragon’s Dogma 2, Sven’s quest “A Veil of Gossamer Clouds” sends you from his chambers at Vernworth Castle to Battahl’s Forbidden Magick Research Lab. Find the Letter to Lord Phaesus on a table there and return it to Sven for the reported reward of 4,000 XP, 20,000 G, and one Ferrystone. The quest is a low-combat investigation, but the clue route is not marked on the map.
How to start “A Veil of Gossamer Clouds”
Speak with Sven in his chambers at Vernworth Castle. Guides differ on the exact unlock requirements: Game8 lists obtaining the Beastren Border Entry Permit from Brant and completing both “Feast of Deception” and “Masked Correspondence,” while PowerPyx identifies “Feast of Deception” and says “Masked Correspondence” may also be required. If Sven does not offer the quest, revisit him after those story milestones and after acquiring the permit.
Reach Battahl and the Forbidden Magick Research Lab
Cross the border
Follow the objective toward Battahl via Checkpoint Rest Town. The route described by Game8 uses a Beastren Border Entry Permit; if your Arisen is not Beastren, you may also need a Beastren Mask to pass the checkpoint. Requirements can depend on your character and story progression, so check your permit and equipment before setting out.
Find the lab
Once in Battahl, continue to the Forbidden Magick Research Lab. PowerPyx’s route enters through the door beyond the Dye Stores, across a short bridge. Reaching Battahl is only part of the trip: the lab itself is the destination for the evidence, and the map does not mark the clue route.

Find the Letter to Lord Phaesus

Enter the Forbidden Magick Research Lab and look for the room associated with the conversation about correspondence from Vermund.

Pick up the Letter to Lord Phaesus from the table in that room.

Return to Vernworth Castle and give the letter to Sven.
This is an investigation-focused quest rather than a combat challenge; use the lab and room details as your landmarks if the objective marker does not guide you to the document.

Return choices and rewards
The guides describe two possible letters to return. The Phaesus-letter route is the route tied to completing the Battahl lab investigation; Neoseeker separately reports that asking Waldhar about an unfinished letter can reveal it is a love letter, which can then be returned to Sven instead. That alternate result is reported by Neoseeker and is not independently confirmed here.

On the reported figures, choosing the Phaesus letter gives 6,000 G more and includes a Ferrystone. Choose the unfinished-letter route only if you want that alternate outcome rather than the lab investigation and its additional reward.
