If Roblox shows “Please Confirm Your Identity: An Unknown Error Occurred,” first check where it appears: during an age check, while logging in, or during account recovery. Roblox’s official help pages reviewed do not identify this exact wording as a named error or confirm one cause, so there is no single guaranteed fix.
Check whether Roblox is having a service issue
Start with the Roblox Status dashboard if the problem is affecting the platform or joining experiences. Roblox Support specifically advises checking Status when players have trouble using the platform or experiences, in its Contact Us article. The dashboard showed all systems operational when checked on October 8, 2026, and listed a site issue on October 5, 2026 as resolved. Status can change, and an operational dashboard does not rule out an account-specific problem.
If the message appears during age verification
Use Roblox’s in-product age-check flow rather than trying unrelated account fixes. Roblox’s ID Verification instructions direct eligible users to Settings > Account Info, then “Continue with ID.” Roblox says users must be at least 13 and have a government-issued photo ID.
- Open Roblox Settings > Account Info and select Continue with ID.
- Allow camera access when prompted, then scan your ID and take the requested photo. Capture the back barcode if your document has one.
- Return to the original Roblox session to check whether verification passed or failed. Roblox says the process may take a few minutes.
Improve a pending or unclear scan
- Keep the entire document in frame and make sure the image is clear; Roblox says blurry images take longer to process.
- Wait if the check is still pending. Roblox notes that documents from some countries may take longer to process, including documents with non-Roman characters.
- Check that you are using a document type supported for your location. Roblox’s ID Verification FAQs say age verification is supported in over 180 countries. Commonly usable documents include a driver’s license, residency card, or passport, but available documents depend on location.
Roblox identifies Persona as a third-party provider for identity verification related to age-appropriate content and additional social features, and points users to its privacy policy for details. A separate Roblox page says information uploaded to Persona for DevEx verification is retained for 30 days before removal and that Roblox does not receive raw identification information. That 30-day statement applies to the DevEx workflow only; it is not a general retention rule for the age-check flow. See Roblox’s DevEx overview.

If it appears at login or during account recovery
Age-verification steps may not apply if the error occurs before you can sign in or while trying to recover an account. Roblox’s I Forgot My Password page explains how to reset a password using an email address or phone number attached to the account. If neither is attached, Roblox directs players to Customer Support. Roblox says it must verify account ownership before resetting an account or changing account information.
After regaining access, Roblox recommends enabling 2-Step Verification as an added account-security measure. Do not send your password or identity document to a forum, video creator, or unofficial recovery service; use Roblox’s in-product flow and official support.

Contact Roblox Support if the error continues
Check Roblox’s help articles first, then use the official Contact Us route if the relevant flow still fails. Include the affected username, device, the appropriate help category, and a clear description of where the message appears and what happened immediately before it. Roblox points users with platform or experience issues to its Status page.

The wording alone does not establish whether the problem is an ID scan, a login or recovery issue, or a temporary service problem. A user-generated 2022 video mentions checking connection, VPN, login, and resetting the app, but those suggestions are anecdotal rather than Roblox-confirmed causes or guaranteed fixes. Follow the official route that matches where the error occurs instead of assuming a network change, app reset, or device purchase will resolve it.
