Koikatsu Party is the Windows release of ILLUSION’s anime-style character-creation game, with personality archetypes and romantic options. It is explicitly adult-only: Steam warns that it contains nudity or sexual content. Before considering it, check the PC requirements, language limits, and whether the Steam listing is available in your region.
What is Koikatsu Party?
Released on Steam on June 10, 2019, Koikatsu Party centers on creating anime-style characters and exploring romantic options. ILLUSION describes tools for customizing a character and choosing among 30 personality archetypes. That count is a feature listed by the developer, not an independent assessment. ILLUSION’s official Koikatsu Party introduction presents the game as a localized release for overseas users.

This is adult entertainment, not an all-ages character creator: Steam labels the game adult-only and identifies nudity or sexual content. The game’s romantic and customization features should be understood in that context. Steam’s Koikatsu Party listing provides the age notice and product details.

Windows 7 and 8.1 need an extra compatibility check. The game’s listed minimum operating systems include both, but Steam separately says its client supports Windows 10 and later starting January 1, 2024. The older game requirement does not guarantee that the current Steam client will run on Windows 7 or 8.1. Steam’s listing gives the game requirements; its client-support note is a separate platform condition.
Languages: English interface, Japanese audio, but no Japanese display
The Steam listing specifies English interface support, Japanese full audio, and Simplified and Traditional Chinese interface support. ILLUSION says this overseas-localized Steam version does not support Japanese-language display. If Japanese text is essential, do not assume this release can show it; the Japanese-market version and its expansions are not interchangeable by default.
ILLUSION also states that additional expansions available in Japan are incompatible with Koikatsu Party. Check that any add-on is explicitly for this Steam release rather than assuming Japanese-market content will work. ILLUSION’s introduction covers localization and Japanese display, while Steam’s listing notes the expansion incompatibility.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone. Can you still buy Koikatsu Party?
ILLUSION announced on July 13, 2023 that it would discontinue development and sales of its products as of August 18, 2023 at 10:00 Japan time. The announcement also said customers who had already purchased and downloaded games could continue playing. Separately, when Steam’s listing was accessed for this article, it displayed a purchase option. That observation is not a promise of continued availability: storefront status can change and may differ by region. Check the current Steam page in your location before planning a purchase. ILLUSION’s Steam Community announcement archive contains the closure announcement.

Steam’s official announcement archive identifies Koikatsu Party VR as add-on content that requires the base game; another announcement describes After Party as an expansion. The existence of a VR add-on does not establish support for a particular headset, and the official material reviewed does not specify compatible headset models. Confirm that the add-on is offered in your region and check its current store details before buying. Japanese-market expansions are a separate matter and are stated to be incompatible with Koikatsu Party. The Steam announcement archive covers the VR add-on and After Party.
Who should consider it?
Koikatsu Party may suit an adult player specifically interested in detailed anime-style character creation, personality options, and romantic content. It is a poor fit if you require Japanese text, need certainty that a Japanese-market expansion will work, or cannot use a current Steam client on your Windows version. For VR, treat the add-on as a separate purchase decision and verify regional availability and hardware details rather than assuming headset support.
