RetroArchの高度な機能を使えば、入力の応答を調整したり、CRT風の画面効果を加えたり、友人とネット対戦したりできます。ただしRetroArchはゲームを内蔵した単一のエミュレーターではなく、libretroコアを動かすフロントエンドです。機能の対応状況や結果は、コア、プラットフォーム、描画ドライバー、ハードウェアによって変わります。まずは一度に一つの設定を試し、合わなければ元に戻せる形で調整しましょう。
1. Run-aheadで入力遅延を抑える
Run-aheadは、ゲームのセーブステートを使って未来のフレームを先行実行し、入力が反映されるまでの遅れを減らす機能です。格闘ゲームやアクションゲームなど、ボタンを押した瞬間の反応が重要なタイトルで効果を感じられる場合があります。仕組みや条件はLibretroのRun Aheadガイドで確認できます。
利用には、コアが正常かつ高速なセーブステートに対応していることと、先行実行分を処理できるCPU余力が必要です。公式ガイドは「Run Ahead relies on save states so they need to be clean and fast enough.」と説明しています。先行フレーム数を増やすほど処理負荷も高まり、設定しすぎるとスタッターや巻き戻るような挙動が出ることがあります。
フレーム数を見つける
公式ガイドでは、方向キーを押した状態でゲームを一時停止し、フレーム送りを使って画面上の反応が現れるまでのフレーム数を調べる方法を案内しています。調べた値を目安に設定し、実際のプレイで応答と安定性を確認してください。問題が出たら値を下げるか、Run-aheadを無効にします。

2. Frame DelayやGPU同期で遅延を調整する
入力遅延はRun-aheadだけでなく、Frame Delay、GPU同期、スワップチェーン、音声バッファなど複数の設定が関係します。これらは同じ目的に関係していても、画面のリフレッシュレート、ドライバー、コア、音声出力などに左右されるため、万人に共通する最適値はありません。設定項目の概要はLibretroのLatencyガイドを参照してください。
一項目ずつ試す
- 現在の設定を控え、ゲームを起動して操作感と映像・音声の安定性を確認します。
- Frame Delayや同期関連の項目から一つだけ変更します。
- 同じ場面で入力応答、スタッター、音切れを確認します。
- 改善がなければ変更を戻して次の項目を試します。
複数の値を同時に変えると、改善または悪化の原因が分かりにくくなります。遅延を下げる設定は負荷や安定性との兼ね合いがあるため、画面が乱れたり音声が途切れたりした場合は、直前の変更を戻してください。
3. シェーダーでCRT風の画面を作る
シェーダーは、走査線や画面の色調などを加えてゲーム画面の見た目を変える機能です。複数のエフェクトを重ね、好みに合わせたプリセットとして保存できます。基本的な操作はShadersガイド、シェーダーの仕組みはIntroduction to Shadersに説明があります。

設定と保存
シェーダーを選んで見た目を調整したら、必要に応じてプリセットを保存します。保存範囲はグローバル、コア、コンテンツディレクトリ、個別ゲームなどから選べるため、全タイトルに同じ効果をかけるか、ゲームごとに使い分けるかを決められます。シェーダー形式と言語、描画ドライバーの組み合わせによっては利用できないことがあるので、読み込めない場合は別の互換形式やドライバーを確認します。
4. オーバーレイで画面装飾や操作表示を加える
オーバーレイはゲーム画面の上に表示する装飾や操作用の表示です。画面の見た目を整えたり、タッチ操作を補ったりする用途があります。テレビでの表示調整を含む選択肢はLibretroのTVガイドでも扱われています。オーバーレイの見え方や操作性は画面サイズや入力環境に左右されるため、実際に遊ぶ機器で位置と大きさを確かめてください。
5. Netplayでインターネット対戦する
Netplayは、複数のRetroArch環境をネットワーク越しに同期して一緒に遊ぶ機能です。接続する側どうしで同じコンテンツと同じコアを使い、RetroArchのバージョンも揃えるのが基本条件です。詳細はNetplayガイドとNetplay FAQを確認してください。

滑らかさはネットワーク環境だけで決まらず、コアの決定性やセーブステート対応なども関係します。Netplayはゲーム内のオンラインモードやリンクケーブル機能を置き換えるものではありません。公式資料には最大16人との記載がありますが、全コアや全タイトルでその人数が保証されるわけではありません。
6. ロビーと観戦機能で参加者を扱う
Netplayでは、ホスト、参加プレイヤー、観戦者という役割を使い分けられます。組み込みロビーを使って参加先を探す方法もあります。接続先が見つからない、参加できないといった場合は、ホスト側と参加側のコア、コンテンツ、バージョンが一致しているかを確認し、ネットワーク環境や利用可能な接続設定を見直します。ロビーの利用可否や接続方法は環境によって異なります。

RetroArchはlibretroコアを読み込んでゲームを動かします。つまり、利用できる機能やその挙動はRetroArchだけで一律に決まるわけではありません。コアやプラットフォーム、ドライバーによって、セーブステート、Run-ahead、Netplayなどの対応状況が異なります。RetroArchの役割はUnderstanding Basicsで説明されています。

機能が動かないときは、RetroArch全体の不具合と決めつけず、対象ゲームを別の対応コアで試す、該当機能の互換性を確認する、といった切り分けが役立ちます。RetroArch自体は著作権のあるゲームを配布するサービスではありません。ゲームの入手方法は、権利や地域のルールに沿って別途確認してください。
8. プレイリストでゲームとコアを整理する
プレイリストを使うと、ゲームを一覧から選びやすくできます。コンテンツをスキャンして一覧を作る方法のほか、手動で項目を追加する方法もあります。タイトル数が増えたら、必要なコアとコンテンツの対応を整理しておくと、起動時に選び直す手間を抑えられます。ユーザーインターフェースとプレイリストの案内はLibretroのUser Interfaceガイドにあります。
