Square Enix’s published minimum for Final Fantasy VII Rebirth on PC is 1080p at 30 FPS on the Low preset. Its recommended target is 1080p at 60 FPS on Medium. Both tiers call for 16 GB of RAM, 155 GB of available storage on an SSD, and DirectX 12. Before troubleshooting anything, install the latest PC update. The June 3, 2026 notice lists version 1.005 for both Steam and Epic.
Official PC requirements
The table below uses Square Enix’s published PC requirements. These are the publisher’s targets, not independent benchmark results, so your own frame rate will depend on drivers, background software, and the scene you are playing. Square Enix adds three requirements that sit beside the table:
- Shader Model 6.6 support.
- An operating system with DirectX 12 Ultimate support.
- For 4K, 12 GB of VRAM or more. This is a recommendation for that resolution, not a separate minimum for 1080p.
How to read the two tiers
- Minimum: the target is 1080p at 30 FPS on Low. The GPU list includes an AMD Radeon RX 6600 or above, an Intel Arc A580, or an NVIDIA RTX 2060. Square Enix says the RTX 2060 requires an RTX series card, so older GeForce models are not covered by that entry.
- Recommended: the target is 1080p at 60 FPS on Medium. The stronger CPU and GPU entries, plus Windows 11, reflect the step up in target.
- Unlisted hardware: the official tables name specific cards. Do not assume a GPU that is not listed performs like a listed one unless you have a benchmark for that card.
Choosing a target for your PC
Use three comparisons together: your hardware against the minimum and recommended rows, the output you want (1080p at 30 FPS or 1080p at 60 FPS), and your display resolution. A 4K display is the case where the 12 GB VRAM recommendation applies. Upscaling can change the picture you get at a given resolution, so the upscaler you choose matters as much as the preset.

Performance settings and features
Square Enix’s PC feature announcement, posted to its official Steam Community page on December 16, 2024, lists the options below. Read the announcement.
Graphics presets
The PC version offers three default presets: Low, Medium, and High. Treat them as starting points. The announcement does not name a single best preset for any hardware. Changing presets on AMD Radeon or Intel Arc hardware has a specific anti-aliasing behavior, covered in the fixes section below.
Frame rate ceiling
The announcement states that the game supports high frame rates of up to 120 FPS. It also says the game “will feel new, including high frame rates of up to 120 FPS.” The announcement does not say that every PC can sustain 120 FPS, so treat that figure as a supported ceiling rather than a target.
DLSS and FSR upscaling
- NVIDIA DLSS is supported and can improve frame rates and image quality through upscaling. Frame generation options were added in a later update and are covered under version 1.004 below.
- AMD FSR upscaling was added to the PC version in the June 3, 2026 update. It is therefore not present in builds that predate that notice.
- Variable refresh rate (VRR) is supported, so a compatible G-Sync or FreeSync display can use it.
Background model and texture detail
The options menu lets you adjust background model Level of Detail (LOD) and background texture MIP maps separately. In general terms, lowering model LOD reduces the geometric detail of distant objects, while lowering MIP maps reduces the texture detail of distant surfaces. Square Enix’s notice does not quantify how much performance either setting recovers, so test the changes on your own system if you need a specific frame rate.

Controls
Keyboard and mouse are supported. You can customize controls separately for exploration and combat or mini-games. A DualSense controller can also be connected to use the PS5 version’s control scheme.

Version 1.005 (June 3, 2026)
This update added AMD FSR upscaling to PC. The notice lists PC version 1.005 for Steam and Epic. Check your build number in your storefront before assuming you have the latest update. Square Enix’s 1.005 update notice is the primary source.
Version 1.004 (November 5, 2025)
This update added DLSS Frame Generation. For GeForce RTX 50 series cards, it added DLSS Multi Frame Generation. Square Enix also reported overall stability improvements. This is historical version information, and it is superseded by the 1.005 notice above. Square Enix’s 1.004 update notice lists the changes.

This update fixed an issue where the game could sometimes crash during play on PCs with certain AMD Radeon products, and it included broader stability fixes. The notice does not promise that all crashes or all AMD hardware are covered. Square Enix’s 1.003 update notice has the details.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone.Common fixes, in order
- Update the game first. Square Enix repeatedly advises installing the latest update, and several documented fixes only exist in newer builds. Confirm that your Steam or Epic build reads version 1.005 or later.
- Crashes on some AMD Radeon systems. If the game crashes during play on an AMD Radeon PC, make sure you are on version 1.003 or later. That update specifically addressed this issue. If crashes continue on a current build, the official notes do not give a further documented fix, so report the problem to Square Enix Support.
- Unexpected anti-aliasing after a preset change (AMD Radeon or Intel Arc). Square Enix’s Windows Version 1.1 notice states that changing the graphics preset now correctly sets Anti-Aliasing to the default FSR option on those cards. If you see different anti-aliasing after changing presets, open the anti-aliasing setting, confirm it reads FSR, and make sure the game is updated. Read the Windows Version 1.1 notice.
Workarounds the official notes do not cover
Square Enix’s notices name specific issues and fixes. They do not endorse the following as universal solutions, and this article does not either:
- Deleting shader caches.
- Installing mods.
- Changing driver control-panel options.
- Reinstalling the game.
If you try any of these, do it only after the update and anti-aliasing checks above, and change one thing at a time so you know what made a difference.
