Ash meets Greninja again in episode JN108, “Catching the Aura of Fate!”, from Pokémon Journeys: The Series. It is the 108th episode of Journeys and the 1,193rd episode of the animated series overall. Because a similarly named Pokémon episode exists, search by the title or the JN108 code rather than by a season number alone.
Two similarly named episodes, and only one is the reunion
Fans often mix up JN108 with “A Meeting of Two Journeys!”, which is a different episode from the earlier XY series. The table below separates the two so you can check the code before you watch.
| Detail | JN108 (the reunion) | XY106 (not the reunion) |
|---|---|---|
| Title | “Catching the Aura of Fate!” | “A Meeting of Two Journeys!” |
| Series | Pokémon Journeys: The Series | Pokémon the Series: XY |
| Episode number in its series | 108 | 106 |
| Overall series number | 1,193 | Not stated in the sources reviewed |
| Japanese broadcast | April 29, 2022 | Not stated in the sources reviewed |
| US broadcast | February 24, 2023 | Not stated in the sources reviewed |
| Main focus | Ash, Greninja and Lucario in Kalos | Ash and Sawyer’s battle, with Greninja fighting Sceptile and Alain’s Charizard |
The US catalog for Apple TV files “A Meeting of Two Journeys!” under season 19, episode 13. Catalog numbering differs from the episode codes used by Bulbapedia, so a season number on its own will not reliably identify the right episode.
What happens in JN108
Ash travels to Kalos with Goh after Goh’s Froakie evolves into Frogadier. Ash wants Greninja to help Lucario understand a bond and an Aura ability that resemble the connection Ash shared with Greninja. The two find Greninja, work together against giant roots, and Greninja helps Lucario improve its Aura.

The reunion is brief. Greninja leaves again to keep protecting Kalos, so it does not rejoin Ash’s active team.
Why Greninja was in Kalos to begin with
Greninja’s earlier departure happened at the end of the Kalos crisis. In the XY-era episode “Facing the Needs of the Many!” (XY139), Ash releases Greninja so it can help detect and destroy dangerous roots. JN108 picks up from that point: Ash is glad to see his former partner again, and the two cooperate before parting once more.
