How The Playerbase works
Sony announced The Playerbase on April 7, 2026, as a way for fans to have their likeness scanned and appear in PlayStation games. The first announced participant will travel to a visual arts studio in Los Angeles for a scanning session and a design collaboration. Sony says it hopes to extend the program to other PlayStation Studios games, but it has not named future titles or given a schedule. Sony’s announcement describes the program and its initial game.
What the selected fan gets in Gran Turismo 7
The first feature combines two different kinds of in-game recognition:
- Temporary portrait: The selected fan will receive a special, limited-time appearance as an in-game character portrait.
- Showcase designs: The fan will collaborate with a designer on a custom Fantasy Logo and a one-of-a-kind vehicle livery. Sony says these will remain in Gran Turismo 7’s Showcase menu.
Sony has not described the portrait’s exact duration or specified when the custom designs will be added. The announcement names Gran Turismo 7 as the starting point; it does not establish that participants need a particular console, game edition, or racing peripheral.

How to apply and how Sony chooses a fan
Sony’s announcement describes an application that requires signing in with a PlayStation account and providing additional information. Applications are reviewed, a limited number of finalists are invited to video interviews, and Sony selects one fan for the initial Gran Turismo 7 feature. The official regional pages add that account history and the written submission can inform the first-round review.
- Check the official Playerbase page for your territory. Confirm that your country or territory is included and read its current eligibility and prize rules.
- Sign in with your PlayStation account and submit the requested information. Sony says it reviews the application alongside account history; the German regional page lists the written submission and PlayStation account history as first-round considerations.
- If invited, take part in a video interview. Sony says a limited number of finalists will be interviewed before a fan is selected.
Sony has not published selection odds or a guaranteed response time. An application does not by itself establish eligibility or guarantee an interview.

What Sony says it considers
Criteria described on the German Playerbase page cover both the application and the interview. The page’s listed factors include:
- Written submission and account history: originality and relevance; the applicant’s personal connection to PlayStation Studios fandom; and engagement with PlayStation products, subscriptions, games played, and play hours.
- Polyphony Digital engagement: the studio’s games, play hours, and trophies.
- Interview: authentic enthusiasm for PlayStation and Gran Turismo 7, entertaining and shareable content, the ability to represent the community, and conduct suitable for representing PlayStation and related games.
These are factors the regional page says Sony may consider, not a published scoring formula or promise that any single level of playtime or trophy count qualifies an applicant. The German program page and the official rules for your own region are the relevant references; criteria and eligibility should not be assumed to be identical worldwide.

Who is eligible, and what about travel?
Eligibility is territory-specific. Official regional pages describe an age threshold and require a PlayStation Online ID associated with an eligible country or territory. The exact age and other conditions depend on the local rules, so check the page that applies where you live rather than relying on a general summary.
The Israel regional page says Sony Interactive Entertainment or authorized representatives, including PromoVeritas LTD, will arrange and cover travel and lodging for the prize. That is territory-specific rules language, not a universal travel promise for every participant. Check the applicable regional page and rules for the terms in your territory.

Has Sony announced the first selected fan?
Sony’s official program page gave summer 2026 as the expected selection window for the first Gran Turismo 7 fan. That window has passed, but the official sources reviewed here do not establish whether Sony has since announced the selected fan. The status is unresolved on those sources; it would be inaccurate to claim either that a winner has been named or that Sony has not selected anyone.

Sony said it hopes to expand The Playerbase to more PlayStation Studios games and adapt each fan appearance to the style and world of the relevant game. It has not identified the next game or announced a timetable. For now, Gran Turismo 7 is the only title named in the program announcement.
