Greg’s Diary is found in Moonwood Mill, the town introduced with The Sims 4: Werewolves. Community guides list two routes: a werewolf can scavenge for it using the Enhanced Smell ability, or a Sim can search the Underground, the town’s tunnel network. Neither route is documented with a fixed spawn point or drop rate, so expect to search more than one spot.
Where the diary is
The item is listed in community references as The Diary of Greggorius Lunvik, usually shortened to Greg’s Diary. It belongs to the Werewolves lore-book set, and it is part of the content in The Sims 4 Werewolves Game Pack. The Werewolves pack is the only add-on we can connect to this item. The diary is an in-game book, not a separate product.

EA’s launch article, “Embrace the Full Moon,” published August 4, 2022, frames Moonwood Mill’s hidden history around searching for lost material. It says: “everyone in town knows that to find the best secrets, you’ll have to head out into the neighborhood and dig (or explore) a little deeper for long lost books and items.” That line supports the idea that the diary is a search item, not a quest reward or a fixed placement.
Route 1: Scavenge with Enhanced Smell (werewolves)
This route requires a werewolf Sim in Moonwood Mill with the Werewolves pack installed.
#1 Best Overall
- Requires The Sims 4 & all game updates. For PC, see minimum system requirements for the pack.
- Develop Parenting Skills – Level up your Sim’s parenting skills to satisfy their child’s needs and influence their behaviors. Gain new abilities through experience and choosing when to discipline bad actions, encourage good behavior, or just let kids be kids.
- Shape Your Sim’s Childhood – The decisions you make influence how your Sim parents and leave a lasting impact on their child’s future. Each choice shapes their personality, affects their traits, influences their family relationships, and guides their path into adulthood.
- Gather your Sim’s family to participate in new activities and spend quality time with each other. Sims of all ages can work together to complete a variety of school projects, express their creativity using construction blocks, or volunteer their time for good.
- Customize your Sims’ looks and their home with new family fashion and build items. Give the kids’ bedrooms extra personality, remodel the kitchen to feel homier, and let your Sims express their sporty or artistic sides with new outfits.
- Switch to your werewolf Sim in Moonwood Mill.
- Use the Enhanced Smell ability to reveal a scavenging spot nearby.
- Run the werewolf scavenging interaction at that spot.
- Repeat the process at other revealed spots. A gameplay guide from Simming Simplified, its Cure Seeker walkthrough, describes repeating this search to collect lore books, including Greg’s Diary.
Route 2: Explore the Underground tunnels
The second route does not depend on being a werewolf. EA describes the Underground as a network of tunnels beneath the town that players can explore to uncover secrets and find quicker routes around Moonwood Mill. The Sims Wiki’s book list, a community reference rather than an official document, names tunnel exploration as a way to find the diary.
- Travel to Moonwood Mill.
- Enter the Underground tunnel network.
- Explore the tunnels and check the areas you pass through.
Comparing the two routes
| Route | What you need | What is documented | What is not established |
|---|---|---|---|
| Enhanced Smell scavenging | A werewolf Sim, Enhanced Smell, and the Werewolves pack | A gameplay guide (Simming Simplified, Cure Seeker walkthrough) describes repeating the scavenging search to find lore books, including the diary | Spot locations, number of attempts, drop rate |
| Underground tunnels | Access to Moonwood Mill | EA describes the Underground as a tunnel network for uncovering secrets; The Sims Wiki’s book list names tunnel exploration as a diary route | Whether a given tunnel trip reliably yields the diary, and how long it takes |
No source we reviewed ranks the routes by speed or odds, so pick the one that fits your Sim. A werewolf can use either route. A non-werewolf Sim has only the tunnel route.

If the diary does not appear
- Keep repeating the scavenging search on a werewolf, or explore more of the Underground, before deciding the item is missing.
- Switch to the other route. Each one uses a different part of Moonwood Mill, so trying both is reasonable.
- Do not expect one specific spot to always contain the diary. Player reports on the EA Forums describe randomness, but those comments are anecdotal and do not establish drop mechanics.
What is and is not confirmed
- Confirmed by EA: Moonwood Mill, the Underground tunnel network, and the lost-books-and-items theme of the Werewolves pack.
- Documented by community guides: the diary’s name, its place in the lore-book set, and the two routes above.
- Not documented by any official EA page we found: a fixed location, guaranteed spawn, or drop rate.
These sources date from the pack’s 2022 launch and later community guides. Game updates can change how items spawn, so if a route stops working, check the current community guides before assuming the diary is missing.
