If “make the most money” means tournament prize money awarded in 2025, Counter-Strike ranked first, with $32,279,855. For the all-time prize-money leader, the answer is Dota 2; for the most-watched esports title by peak viewers in 2025, it is League of Legends. These are different measures—not a single ranking of which game is most valuable overall.

Which esports game has the biggest prize pool in 2025?

Counter-Strike topped Esports Charts’ published 2025 annual prize-money ranking. Its total was $32,279,855, ahead of Dota 2 at $23,149,768 and Honor of Kings at $21,777,087. The figures are tournament prizes awarded, not game sales, player salaries, publisher revenue, or profit. Esports Charts published this ranking on Dec. 17, 2025, covering more than 10,500 tournaments across over 100 titles, including events that ended in 2025 even if they began earlier. It reported more than $270 million in total tournament prizes across the dataset, up 15.5% from 2024. (Esports Charts’ 2025 prize-money report)

Rank Game 2025 prize money awarded
1 Counter-Strike $32,279,855
2 Dota 2 $23,149,768
3 Honor of Kings $21,777,087
4 Fortnite $15,649,066
5 PUBG Mobile $15,308,988
6 League of Legends $14,923,025
7 VALORANT $11,259,422
8 Rocket League $9,783,302
9 Tom Clancy’s Rainbow Six Siege $9,408,120
10 PUBG: Battlegrounds $7,825,308

Every amount in this table is from Esports Charts’ published 2025 ranking, a dated snapshot rather than a guaranteed final tally. Its live ranking page can be revised and, with the 2025 period selected, showed a different total and some different values when checked on Oct. 8, 2026. Do not combine the published snapshot and live database figures as if they were one dataset. (Published 2025 report; live prize-money rankings)

What changed in the annual ranking?

Esports Charts reported that Counter-Strike’s prize total increased 41.5% year over year as its top-tier event calendar expanded. Dota 2, the prior year’s leader, came second, while Honor of Kings stayed in the top three. Fortnite placed fourth and PUBG Mobile fifth. League of Legends’ total rose to nearly $15 million; Esports Charts pointed to larger MSI and World Championship prize pools and the addition of First Stand. Those are the source’s explanations for the ranking movements, not evidence that the same factors determine a game’s overall commercial value.

Which esports game has paid the most prize money in total?

For cumulative prize money, Dota 2 leads Esports Charts’ live all-time ranking. As checked on Oct. 8, 2026, the page listed Dota 2 at $370,454,612, followed by Counter-Strike at $209,817,655, Fortnite at $147,305,556, League of Legends at $132,559,509, and PUBG Mobile at $121,831,601. These are totals in that tracker’s live database, not fixed lifetime figures. (Esports Charts’ live all-time prize rankings)

Another tracker, Esports Earnings, also places Dota 2 first but reports materially different totals and a different ordering below it. It says its figures draw on publicly available information such as news, interviews, official statements, databases, and archived event material. Lifetime totals depend on which events and records a database includes, so name the tracker and the date when quoting them rather than mixing sources. (Esports Earnings game rankings)

Which esports title is the most watched?

By peak viewership in Esports Charts’ 2025 ranking, League of Legends led with 6,752,585 viewers. Mobile Legends: Bang Bang followed at 4,132,224; Counter-Strike reached 1,789,038; Dota 2, 1,785,159; and VALORANT, 1,473,642. Peak viewership is a maximum audience measure, not the number of unique people who watched throughout the year, and it does not measure payouts or revenue. (Esports Charts’ 2025 game rankings)

How do mobile esports compare?

Mobile games are prominent in the 2025 prize-money comparison. Honor of Kings led the mobile prize-money table, followed by PUBG Mobile and Mobile Legends: Bang Bang. Their results sit alongside PC and console titles in the broader ranking, but they do not necessarily represent identical competitive ecosystems: games can have different regional audiences, tournament calendars, and event structures. Esports Charts’ prize-money and audience rankings provide useful comparisons only when the metric and scope are kept clear. (2025 prize-money report; game rankings)

Does the biggest prize pool mean a game is the most valuable?

No. Prize money measures what tournament organizers award to competitors; it does not capture all the money a game or its esports ecosystem generates, nor who receives that money. There is no comparable title-by-title ranking established here for esports revenue, game-level revenue, profit, or valuation.

Newzoo reported global games-market revenue of $201.6 billion for 2025 in its 2026 outlook. That is an overall games-industry figure, not esports revenue and not the earnings of any one game. (Newzoo’s 2026 games-market outlook)

Esports money can flow through several channels, and the beneficiaries differ:

  • Tournament prize money: payouts awarded to players or teams.
  • Audience reach: a defined viewership measure, such as peak viewers; it is not a revenue figure.
  • Game revenue: sales and in-game spending attributable to the game.
  • Esports business revenue: sponsorship, media rights, ticketing, merchandise, or digital-item sales, which may accrue to publishers, teams, leagues, or event organizers.
  • Profit or valuation: financial results or enterprise value for a company or team, rather than a measure of a game’s tournament scene.

Riot Games describes digital-content sales and revenue sharing with teams, alongside support such as stipends, incentives, and prize pools. One specific historical example: Riot said the VALORANT Champions skin pack generated $42 million in sales, with half distributed to participating teams. That 2022 product example, reported by Riot in 2023, shows one way money can support an esports ecosystem; it is not a title-wide revenue estimate or a figure that can be generalized to other games. What do prize rankings mean for a player?

A high game-wide prize total does not establish that an individual competitor has a better chance of earning a living. The annual rankings add up awards across tournaments; they do not show how prizes are distributed among players or account for salaries, contracts, sponsorships, participation odds, or regional differences. Use them to compare tournament payout scale, not to predict an individual career outcome.
