That reset is the only official recovery control we can confirm. If you are stuck anywhere else, there is no documented universal “unstuck” option, so the steps below separate what is official from what is only a workaround.
Identify where you are stuck
The right step depends on the location. Match your situation to the table before trying anything else.

Freighter entrapment: use the position reset
Hello Games’ Fractal Update release notes describe the change this way: “An option has been added to reset your current position while aboard a freighter, to provide a safe return aboard after becoming stuck.” The notes explain the purpose of the option but do not give a button-by-button menu path, and menu placement can change between game versions. Use the steps below as a guide, then follow what your version shows on screen.
- Confirm you are still aboard the freighter. The reset is defined for that location only.
- Open the Options menu.
- Look for the option to reset your current position.
- Select it and follow any on-screen prompt.
- Check that you are at a safe position before moving on to other actions.
A May 2025 player discussion on Reddit reported that this reset resolved a freighter entrapment. That is one user’s experience, not an official instruction, and it does not guarantee the same result in every case.

Stuck on a planet, in a station, or in a ship
Hello Games has not documented a current universal “unstuck” control for these situations. The company’s older patch notes do show that it has dealt with a stuck-under-terrain problem before. PC Patch 1.05, dated August 19, 2016, acknowledged that players could save while stuck under terrain. It said the game would detect and attempt to rescue players already affected at that time. That was a fix for a specific past issue, not a promise that the same method will free you now.
Forum tips for getting unstuck, such as deleting files, using console commands, or reloading from older saves, are unofficial. Some may cause data loss or are not safe to try, so do not treat them as guaranteed. Use them only after you have considered your saves, as described below.

If you remain stuck, report the problem to Hello Games
If normal play is still impossible, submit a bug report through Hello Games’ official bug-report channel. The following information helps the developers reproduce the problem:
- Platform, such as PC, PlayStation, or Xbox, and the exact game version
- Where you are stuck: planet name or type, freighter, space station, ship, or anomaly
- What you were doing immediately before the problem began
- A short, step-by-step description of how to reproduce it
We could not confirm a current response time or any recovery service for individual players, so do not expect a specific turnaround.

Check your saves before you reload or restart
Before you reload an earlier save, restart the game, or try an unofficial fix, consider whether you have progress that has not been saved. Hello Games’ documentation does not establish what each recovery option does to your saved data, so do not assume your progress will be kept.
If you are on the freighter, try the official position reset first. It is the only documented option that does not depend on reloading or restarting.

The position reset has been described as a freighter-only fix, so if your problem began somewhere else, keep the steps above as a checklist and report the issue if nothing changes.
