The same roundup reports Sony Direct Certified Refurbished prices of $499 for the Digital Edition and $549 for the disc model. These are changing listings, not guaranteed checkout prices: confirm the exact console, condition, seller, stock, shipping, and final total before buying.
The “new price hike” framing needs a date check. Sony’s latest price increase established here took effect April 2, 2026; no later official increase was established. Sony’s US recommended prices are now $649.99 for the disc PS5, $599.99 for the Digital Edition, and $899.99 for PS5 Pro.
Where to look for a PS5 deal in the United States
GamesRadar’s October 2026 deal roundup reports the following retailer-linked leads. Treat them as a starting point for checking offers, not as confirmed prices available at your checkout.
| Reported listing | Reported price | What to check |
|---|---|---|
| Walmart-linked standalone PS5 disc edition | $499 | Confirm the listing is in stock, the console is new, and Walmart is the seller rather than a marketplace seller. |
| Sony Direct Certified Refurbished PS5 Digital Edition | $499 | Check the refurb condition, return policy, and warranty terms on the live listing. |
| Sony Direct Certified Refurbished PS5 Slim disc edition | $549 | Check the refurb condition, return policy, and warranty terms on the live listing. |
GamesRadar describes the two refurbished prices as $100 below the corresponding newly adjusted US prices. Compare the actual saving with the live terms and condition rather than assuming a refurbished console is equivalent to a new one. See GamesRadar’s PS5 deal roundup.

Before placing an order, verify the exact edition and model, whether it is new or refurbished, who the seller of record is, current stock, shipping charges, and the final checkout price. Taxes depend on location and may change the total. A displayed search result or deal roundup price does not establish what you will pay.

These figures come from Sony’s March 27, 2026 price announcement. The Associated Press reported the same US prices and characterized the cumulative increase as about 30% compared with the prior year; that percentage is AP’s comparison, not a retailer discount or a Sony price statistic. Sony’s stated reason, in a post by Isabelle Tomatis, Vice President of Global Marketing at Sony Interactive Entertainment, was “continued pressures in the global economic landscape.”

PS5 with disc drive

PS5 Digital Edition
Sony lists the Digital Edition with 825GB of storage and no disc drive. Choose it if you are comfortable buying and downloading games digitally. Sony also sells a removable disc-drive accessory for compatible Digital Edition model groups CFI-2000 and CFI-2100. The drive requires an internet connection to pair during setup, and you should confirm the console’s model-group number before purchasing it.
PS5 Pro
Sony lists PS5 Pro with 2TB of storage and a higher US recommended price than either standard model. Whether that premium makes sense depends on your interest in its features and the support available in the games you play; the product descriptions alone do not establish a performance result for every game.

Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone. How to choose between the lowest listing and the right deal
- Want the lowest reported price on a new disc model? Start by checking the $499 Walmart-linked listing, then confirm seller, condition, stock, and checkout total.
- Prefer to buy from Sony? Check whether Sony Direct’s reported certified-refurbished listings remain available, and read the warranty and return terms before comparing their savings with a new console.
- Already own physical games? Compare disc-console offers first; a Digital Edition cannot use discs without the compatible accessory.
- Committed to digital downloads? Compare the Digital Edition’s live price with the disc model. Include the separate disc-drive cost only if you expect to need the accessory.
- Considering a bundle? Compare the console and included items against their separate prices, and make sure the bundle contains the edition and games or accessories you actually want.
The deal roundup does not establish that any listing is the cheapest at the moment you shop. Inventory, seller, location, and checkout terms can change what counts as the best deal.

Does buying now beat a later price increase?
The official price change established here was announced March 27, 2026 and took effect April 2, 2026. It does not establish a newer announced increase, so a shopper should not treat “before the new price hike” as evidence that another rise is scheduled. If you are shopping now, compare live retailer prices with Sony’s current recommended prices and buy based on the offer and model that meet your needs.
