SPAM, a free-to-play online turn-based card combat game from Ticroco Entreprise, reached No. 1 in Steam’s “Trending Free” category shortly after launch, according to a Notebookcheck report published on 8 October 2026. SteamDB records the release date as 7 October 2026. The most defensible explanation for the attention is the battle format: matches are short and compact, and the game costs nothing to start.
What SPAM is
Steam describes SPAM as a “free-to-play online turn-based combat game.” Players collect cards, build a deck, and then play ranked matches against opponents around the world or challenge a friend directly. The store listing also lists single-player and online PvP features. New cards are earned through victories, and cards can be upgraded through the Tox Shop during matches.
The headline calls it a card-based RPG. Steam’s own description frames it as a combat game built on card collection and deck-building, which is the more precise label for what the store page promises. Ticroco Entreprise is listed as both developer and publisher.
How the four-unit battle works
Notebookcheck’s account of play is the most detailed description available, and it differs in several ways from a conventional draw-based deckbuilder:
#1 Best Overall
- 🎮 Multi-Platform Compatibility: The GameSir Kaleid works seamlessly with Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, Windows 10/11, and Steam, delivering a smooth and lag-free gaming experience without battery anxiety.
- 🎮 Hall Effect: Featuring Hall Effect sensing sticks, the GameSir Kaleid offers anti-drift performance and exceptional durability. The precision-tuned Hall Effect analog triggers provide enhanced control for precise in-game actions.
- 🎮 Plug and Play: Enjoy hassle-free connectivity with our detachable 3m (9.8 feet) USB-C cable. Eliminate tangled cords and complex setups to enhance and simplify your gaming experience.
- 🎮 Four Distinct Motors: With four actuators—two in the grips and two in the triggers—the GameSir Kaleid delivers realistic and subtle vibrations, providing precise feedback for impacts, gunshots, and driving over surface irregularities.
- 🎮 Ultimate Personalization: Showcase your style with the GameSir Kaleid’s four ultra-personalized light effects. Adjust the brightness to match different gaming environments and switch up the look to suit your mood and style.
- Each team is a four-card deck, and all four units are on the battlefield from the start of the match.
- There is no conventional draw mechanic, so the board is set at the outset rather than built turn by turn.
- Winning means using abilities and resources to defeat the opponent’s four creatures.
- Players can buy upgrades in the Tox Shop during battles.
These details come from the reporter’s description of play. The article is not based on a developer interview, and Steam’s store description stays at a broader level.
Why the format draws newcomers
The appeal rests on three features that can be checked against the sources. Each one lowers the cost of trying the game, whether in time, money or commitment.
| Feature | What the sources say about SPAM | Why it matters to a new player |
|---|---|---|
| Battle size | Four units per side, all on the battlefield from the start (Notebookcheck) | A match has a small, visible state, so there is less to track before the first decision. |
| Play modes | Ranked play against players worldwide, direct friend duels, and single-player availability (Steam listing) | A player can start alone, then move to ranked or social play without changing games. |
| Cost to start | Free-to-play, with in-game purchases disclosed (Steam listing) | Nothing is required to begin, so trying the game carries no financial risk. |
No sources compare SPAM directly with other card games, so these points explain the format’s appeal rather than prove it outperforms rivals.
Chart position and launch figures
Notebookcheck, writing by Marius Müller, reported on 8 October 2026 that SPAM had reached the top of Steam’s “Trending Free” category shortly after launch. Steam’s trending ranking changes continuously. The report is therefore a dated account of a chart position, not a live or archived Steam snapshot, and no independent capture of that moment has been published in the sources available.
The same report gave the following launch-period figures:
| Measure | Reported value | Source and timing |
|---|---|---|
| Concurrent players at peak | More than 7,000 | Notebookcheck, 2026 launch-period report |
| Steam user reviews | About 700, one day after launch | Notebookcheck, 2026 launch-period report |
| Share of those reviews that are positive | 87% | Notebookcheck, 2026 launch-period report |
These are secondary figures. The sources do not include an original Steam or SteamDB capture of these exact values, so they should be read as reported launch numbers rather than current totals.

Early reception
Notebookcheck describes early reviews as mostly positive. Players praised the tactical depth despite the small team size, the card combinations and the hand-drawn art. The same report notes criticism of the tutorial and of the monetization.
That is one outlet’s early read. It does not amount to a settled consensus, and the sources do not establish a current review score.

Free access and purchases
Steam lists “In-game purchases” and “Chance based in-game purchases” among the game’s disclosures, alongside online interactivity. That store disclosure is the official statement on purchases. According to Notebookcheck, gameplay-relevant cards can be unlocked for free, while real-money purchases can speed up progress.
Playing SPAM does not require buying anything. Purchases affect how quickly a player progresses, and the chance-based element is the one the store page flags explicitly.
Platform and system requirements
Steam lists these minimum requirements for SPAM on Windows:
- Operating system: Windows 10 or Windows 11
- Processor: 2 GHz
- Memory: 2 GB RAM
- Video memory: 1 GB
- Storage: 600 MB available
These are listed minimums. The sources do not provide tested recommended specifications, and SteamDB lists Windows as the supported system.
