According to VGC’s mechanics guide, you gather them in Norgan, take them to the Norgandian Settlement, and pay to have them appraised. The stats on an appraised item are randomized, so the result can be strong or weak. Capcom’s listing gives a launch date of 9 October 2026, so the details below reflect pre-launch descriptions. Check them against your own game after release.
What Relics and Spoils are
Relics and Spoils are the expansion’s gear and reward language. VGC names three places to collect them during Norgan exploration and combat: gathering points, chests, and defeated enemies. Source: VGC’s guide to Relics, Spoils, and Appraisal.

Capcom’s product description frames them as the main way to get new equipment: “Unearth and appraise forgotten relics to unlock powerful new weapons and skills that will aid you on your journey.” That is promotional copy from Capcom’s product listing, not an independent measure of how strong the resulting items will be.
How appraisal works
Appraisal is a separate step from collecting. An unappraised relic is not something you can simply equip, and the appraisal result is what you actually keep.
#1 Best Overall
- A Grand Adventure – Dragon’s Dogma 2 begins in a subterranean jail, where the Dragon’s voice echoes in the fog of lost memories. With their heart taken by the Dragon, the Arisen is set on a path to slay that symbol of the world’s destruction as it soars through the sky on massive wings, breathing flames that scorch everything in its path. With the Arisen’s future veiled in mystery, what challenges and triumphs await on the path to their destiny?
- Single-Player Cooperation – Up to three mysterious otherworldly beings, known as Pawns, accompany the Arisen throughout their journey. Pawns create the feeling of a cooperative gameplay experience by offering unique characteristics, skills, and knowledge gained from their experiences with other Arisen.
- Made with RE ENGINE – Capcom’s advanced RE ENGINE produces vividly detailed, high fidelity graphics combined with immersive physics and complex and reactive character AI to create a setting where decisions, and their consequences, come to life.
- Explore Norgan and collect Relics or Spoils from gathering points, chests, or defeated enemies.
- Return to the Norgandian Settlement.
- Speak to Jiera, who performs appraisal at the settlement, and pay her in Rift Crystals. The cost per appraisal is not stated in Capcom’s listing or in VGC’s guide.
- Review the revealed reward. Its stats are randomized, so one appraisal may produce a strong item and another a weak one.
Because every appraisal spends Rift Crystals and the outcome varies, appraising everything as you find it is not a safe default. The unofficial Dragon’s Dogma 2 relic guide says Rift Crystals also matter for hiring pawns. That makes appraisal a resource trade-off rather than an automatic yes. The exact drop rates and roll probabilities are not published in the official listing or VGC’s guide, so there is no reliable way to calculate whether a given appraisal is worth its cost.
What you can get from the rewards
Relics are not the only reward. VGC lists several other rewards that come from the same exploration and combat loop:

Relics compared with Lost Rites
Capcom lists 12 Lost Rites dungeon challenges as a separate content track, with rare equipment in their depths. The two tracks differ mainly in how predictable their gear is. The comparison below combines Capcom’s official description with the unofficial fan guide’s description, and the fan guide’s claims should be read as guide reporting rather than tested balance findings.
| Aspect | Relics (appraised in Norgan) | Lost Rites (12 dungeon challenges) |
|---|---|---|
| How you obtain them | Collect from gathering points, chests, and defeated enemies, then appraise (VGC) | Complete dungeon challenges; rare equipment is in their depths (Capcom listing) |
| Stat predictability | Randomized after appraisal (VGC; described as randomized in the unofficial fan guide) | Described as fixed-property in the unofficial fan guide; not stated in Capcom’s listing |
| Cost to access | Rift Crystals per appraisal; amount not stated in Capcom’s listing or VGC’s guide | Not stated in Capcom’s listing or VGC’s guide |
Neither track is established as categorically better. The fixed-property versus randomized distinction comes from the fan guide and should be confirmed against in-game item descriptions after release.

Editions and platforms
Capcom sells the expansion in two forms, and the choice matters before you buy:
- Standalone expansion: Requires Dragon’s Dogma 2. It cannot be played without the base game. Capcom lists it for Steam.
- Combined package: Includes the base game and the expansion together.
Capcom’s official announcement says the release is planned for PS5, Xbox Series X|S, PC, and Nintendo Switch 2. Regional storefronts can differ, so confirm the platform and edition listing in your region before you buy.
Rank #4
- Relic Expedition Cycle – Throughout their journey in the kingdom of Norgan, the Arisen must unearth and appraise forgotten relics to unlock powerful new weapons and skills.
- New Dungeon Challenges – The 12 freshly uncovered Lost Rites dungeons house trials designed by the Pathfinder to sharpen the Arisen’s skills and recover rare equipment once held by past Arisen that now lay dormant.
- Deeper Character Customization – New tattoo and hair options have been added to the already robust character creation tool in Dragon’s Dogma 2 so Arisen and Pawns can have even deeper personalization.
- Now on Nintendo Switch 2 – Dragon’s Dogma 2: Dark Arisen brings the classic fantasy world of Dragon’s Dogma 2 and the Dark Arisen Expansion to the Nintendo Switch 2 for the first time.
- Pre-order Bonuses – The Norgan Fashion Set - Northern Attire will be available as a pre-order bonus, which can be accessed via in-game storage at launch.
What is and isn’t established
- Established by VGC and Capcom’s listing: the acquisition sources, the appraisal step at the Norgandian Settlement, the Rift Crystal cost type, the randomized stats, and the other reward types.
- Established only by the unofficial fan guide: the fixed-property nature of Lost Rites gear and the role of Rift Crystals in pawn hiring.
- Not established by any source here: appraisal prices, drop chances, the full stat range of a relic, and the probability of a strong result.
Treat the appraisal loop as confirmed and the balance comparisons as provisional until you have seen the results in your own game.
