There is no evidence here to establish the original ten games or their ranking in an August 2023 list. The available sources identify several candidates from that period, but they do not support presenting them as a verified top ten. For Android players choosing now, the practical shortlist depends on the kind of battle royale you want, your device, and what is available in your region.
What the August 2023 title can—and cannot—tell you
Uptodown’s February 14, 2023 roundup is a useful snapshot of games being discussed that year, not proof of the entries or order in the August 2023 title. It names Free Fire, Free Fire Max, PUBG New State, PUBG MOBILE, Call of Duty: Mobile, Happy Zone, Armajet, and Super Mecha Champions. It also includes Call of Duty: Warzone Mobile while noting that the game had no exact release date at the time. That does not establish that all these games were playable on Android in every market in August 2023. Uptodown’s February 2023 roundup
The sources do not establish a common test method or enough comparable facts to justify an objective top-ten ranking. “Best” is better treated as a fit question: consider your preferred pace and combat style, match format, team options, device performance, and regional availability.
Android battle royale games to consider
PUBG MOBILE
Google Play describes PUBG MOBILE as a 100-player battle royale game with additional modes, customizable controls, training options, and evolving maps and items. That makes it a straightforward candidate if you want a large-player-count survival format and options beyond the core battle royale. The Play Store page displayed 1B+ downloads and 48.6M reviews when accessed in 2026; these are current page figures, not August 2023 statistics. PUBG MOBILE on Google Play

Call of Duty: Mobile
Activision confirms Android support and describes a 100-player battle royale mode, customizable controls, social play, and an internet connection requirement. Its official publisher listing makes it a solid option for players who want battle royale alongside other Call of Duty: Mobile modes. Google Play displayed 100M+ downloads and 16.5M reviews when accessed in 2026; those figures are not historical August 2023 counts. Free Fire and Free Fire Max
Uptodown’s 2023 roundup describes Free Fire Max as a visually enhanced version and Free Fire as a lighter option. Those are the outlet’s characterizations, not results from a controlled device-performance comparison, so check the current listing and requirements for your phone before choosing between them. Fortnite
Fortnite is another Android option, but its installation route has changed over time. Epic currently says Android players can install through Google Play or the Epic Games Store. In supported regions, it also lists cloud play through Xbox Cloud Gaming, GeForce NOW, and Amazon Luna. Epic’s Google Play announcement dates to 2026, so those current routes should not be assumed to have applied in August 2023. Epic’s Android installation information · Epic’s Google Play announcement
PUBG New State
The 2023 roundup presents PUBG New State as a futuristic PUBG entry with the Troi map and customization. That description identifies its period-specific appeal, but it does not establish its current status or availability. Check the publisher’s current information and the listing in your country before installing. Uptodown’s February 2023 roundup

Happy Zone, Armajet, and Super Mecha Champions
These also appear in Uptodown’s 2023 candidate list. The roundup characterizes Armajet as a 2D, four-versus-four game with short rounds, while Super Mecha Champions features controllable giant robots. Those formats differ from a conventional last-player-standing battle royale, so check their current listings and modes if you are looking for the specific large-scale survival format. Uptodown’s February 2023 roundup
How to choose one for your Android phone
- Choose by match format: PUBG MOBILE and Call of Duty: Mobile are described by their current listings as offering 100-player battle royale. Verify the modes available in your region and the current game version.
- Choose by pace and combat style: Armajet’s short 2D four-versus-four matches, as described in the 2023 roundup, are a different experience from large-player-count survival. Super Mecha Champions’ mechs likewise change the combat feel.
- Check device fit: The sources do not give a consistent set of Android hardware or storage requirements for all these games. Compare the current store listing with your device before downloading; an editorial description such as “lightweight” is not a measured performance guarantee.
- Check install route and country: Store access and cloud-play options vary by region and can change. Confirm the official listing or publisher page for your location, especially for Fortnite’s cloud options.
- Check support and current modes: A 2023 mention does not prove a game is still actively supported or that its old modes remain available. Use current publisher or store information for that decision.
Why this is not a verified top ten
The February 2023 roundup supplies a candidate pool, not the exact ten entries implied by an August 2023 title. It does not verify that each candidate was available in every target market at the relevant time, and it does not offer a consistent comparison of match length, team size, requirements, monetization, age ratings, or ongoing support. Rather than invent a ranking or fill the gaps with guesses, use the games above as leads and judge them against your own device and preferences.
