To catch a Whopper for Kanya’s “The Catch of a Lifetime!” quest, fish in the Scarlet Forest—Area 17 near the Great Lake is a good place to start. Use the quest’s Tuff Joint Bait on a large fish, then follow the on-screen prompts in the special reeling minigame. “Whopper” means a large-fish catch, not one specific species.
How to unlock “The Catch of a Lifetime!”
Speak to Kanya at the Scarlet Forest Base Camp. This is described as her fourth fishing side quest, following “Fishing for Flavor.” Game8 says it unlocks after Chapter 4 and completion of “Fishing for Flavor.” Game8’s quest guide

What counts as a Whopper?

Where to catch a Whopper
Start at Scarlet Forest Area 17
Head to Area 17 and search the deeper water around the Great Lake. This is a commonly recommended spot for large fish, not the only place a qualifying catch can appear. Watch for splashing and visible fish movement to find an active target. Gamer Guides’ quest walkthrough

Which bait and conditions should you use?
Try the Tuff Joint Bait provided for the quest; guides recommend it for Gastronome Tuna and other large fish. PowerPyx also suggests looking in the morning during Plenty weather for Gastronome Tuna. These conditions can help you search, but do not guarantee a spawn. If no suitable fish appears, travel to another map and return to refresh the area’s spawns. PowerPyx’s walkthrough
How to reel in the large fish
- Cast near the large fish and follow the game’s on-screen prompts; controls differ by platform.
- When the fish swims, steer in its direction to reduce line strain. Avoid forcing it into nearby obstacles.
- When the fish jumps, respond as prompted.
- Reel when the fish tires, continuing to follow its movement until the catch is secured.

Report your catch to Kanya
Once you have caught a qualifying large fish, return to Kanya at the Scarlet Forest Base Camp and speak to her to complete the quest. Guides list five Honey and 200 Guild Points as rewards. They disagree on the number of Gunpowderfish Scales, so check the reward screen in your game for the current quantity.
