If your faction change is not going through, start by confirming the game. The most closely matching guidance is written for World of Warcraft, where a stalled faction change is usually worth checking in this order: whether the payment completed, whether the character is under a cooldown or service lock, whether the character’s current state blocks the service, and whether servers are down. If none of those explain it, contact Blizzard Support with the character and transaction details. Other games with faction mechanics may work differently, so the steps below apply only to WoW.
Confirm which game you are troubleshooting
The question does not name a game. The search results that best match it are World of Warcraft troubleshooting pages, so this guide assumes WoW. If you play a different game with faction-based features, its service rules, cooldowns, and support process will differ, and you should check that game’s official support pages before following any step here.
Why is my faction change not working in World of Warcraft?
Two 2025 secondary guides list several possible causes: a payment that has not completed, a cooldown after a recent boost or service, a character or service lock, certain character conditions, and server problems. Neither guide is an official Blizzard source, and neither has been confirmed against Blizzard’s current documentation. Treat each item below as something to check, not as a confirmed rule.
1. Confirm the payment completed
Open your Battle.net account’s transaction history and find the purchase. If it shows as pending or failed, the faction change will not start until the payment finishes or is resolved. Do not buy the service a second time while a purchase is still pending.

2. Check for a cooldown after a recent boost or service
One guide says cooldowns can apply after a character boost or another character service. Note the date of the most recent service on the character, then compare it with the current cooldown length in Blizzard’s service documentation. The sources disagree on how long that cooldown lasts, so do not use a single number from a secondary article as the deadline (see the table below).
3. Look for a character or service lock
If the service screen or your account shows a lock, write down the exact wording and the date you saw it. One guide suggests logging into the character and logging back out as a possible fix. That step has not been confirmed by Blizzard, but it is low-risk, so it is reasonable to try once before escalating.
4. Review the character’s current state
Secondary guides list the following as possible complications. None is confirmed as an automatic block under current rules, so verify each one against Blizzard’s current requirements.
- Unread mail on the character
- Active auction listings
- WoW Token activity linked to the character
- Guild-master status
- Installed addons, listed as a possible cause in one guide
5. Check for outages or maintenance
Check the game launcher and Blizzard’s official status and support channels for maintenance or an outage. Server conditions can delay processing, and the guides do not give reliable current timing, so a delay of unknown length is not in itself a reason to conclude the change has failed.

Why the cooldown figures do not match
The two secondary sources give conflicting cooldown information. Both were published in 2025, so their figures may already be out of date.

When to contact Blizzard Support
Contact Blizzard Support if the payment has completed and the character service is still stuck, or if you see a lock you cannot clear. Have the following ready so the request can be investigated without back-and-forth:

- The exact error or lock message, copied word for word, and when you first saw it.
- Whether you have tried a server status check or a single log-in and log-out on the character.
Do not send your password or any other login credentials to anyone claiming to be support. Support requests should only be submitted through Blizzard’s official support channels.
