Disturbance is a hidden, per-hunt value in Fisch that builds up while you fish and determines how likely a given hunt is to spawn. Fishing inside a hunt’s own zone adds the full applicable amount to that hunt, fishing elsewhere adds only one-fifth, and the game checks each hunt periodically against that hunt’s maximum. Rods, enchantments, bait, and other effects all feed into the total. The mechanics below come from the community-maintained Fisch Wiki and its stats page, which are unofficial documentation rather than developer-confirmed rules, so treat the specific numbers as the wiki’s current listings and expect them to shift with game updates.
What disturbance actually measures
Disturbance is not a single global meter. Each hunt keeps its own disturbance total, and that total is compared against the hunt’s own maximum. A high value on one hunt does not directly raise the value on another, although a spawn elsewhere can lower the others (covered below).
Readers often ask whether the value climbs after every catch, during the minigame, or only when a Sundial Totem is involved. The wiki’s description answers this in layers. Rods that carry a disturbance stat add a risk of 1 + rod disturbance for each fish caught, according to the stats page. The zone rule then determines how much of that applicable amount lands on each hunt. The periodic spawn check is separate: it runs on a timer, not on each cast. So the short answer is that disturbance grows from fishing, scaled by where you fish and what you use, and hunts are tested against it on a clock.
What adds disturbance
Four categories of input are listed. The values below are the wiki’s figures and are not exhaustive. The stats page lists some items without numbers in the material it covers, so those cells are marked accordingly.

Rods are the other main input. Some rods carry a disturbance stat, and some carry Hunt Focus, covered in its own section. Because enchantments, baits, and effects stack on top of rod values, a setup’s total is the sum of its parts, not a single number you can read off one item.
Fishing location: why the zone matters
The wiki’s most practical rule concerns location. When you fish in a hunt’s own zone, the applicable disturbance is added at its full value. Outside that zone, the same amount is divided by five. The wiki’s example uses Brine Pool with a specified rod and no enchantment. In that setup, the Brine Storm value rises by 1 while every other hunt rises by 0.2.
Two consequences follow. First, fishing in the wrong place is not wasted entirely, since other hunts still build slowly. Second, the difference is large: a fivefold gap per catch means location usually matters more than a small change in gear for the hunt you are targeting.

Hunt Focus: a rod bonus aimed at one hunt
Some rods carry Hunt Focus, which adds an extra disturbance bonus to one named hunt rather than spreading it evenly. The wiki gives the formula as:
[1 + hunt focus value + (2 × universal disturbance)] / 2
The “universal disturbance” term is the wiki’s name for the shared portion of the calculation. The examples it gives are:

Before choosing a rod for a particular hunt, confirm that you own it and that its focus matches your goal. A focused rod helps only the hunt it names.
How the spawn check works
Spawn checks run every 15 to 60 seconds, according to the wiki. Each check works like this:

- If the roll is higher than the hunt’s current disturbance, the hunt does not spawn, and its disturbance drops by 1.
- If the roll is below the current disturbance, the hunt spawns. Its disturbance resets to 0, and every other hunt’s disturbance falls by 25%.
- Checks run from the hunt with the highest disturbance downward.
The rule means a higher disturbance value raises the chance of a spawn, because more of the possible rolls fall below it. The wiki does not state how an exact tie between roll and disturbance is handled, and it does not give a complete probability formula. Do not read a fixed number of catches as a guarantee unless the wiki states one for your specific hunt.

Thresholds differ by hunt
There is no single disturbance ceiling in Fisch. The wiki lists maximums per hunt, and some hunts also require weather or a player location. Examples from its maximum table:

The wiki also lists several hunts at 10,000. Because a hunt with a higher maximum needs more accumulated disturbance before rolls favor a spawn, the same setup can feel very different across hunts.

Yes, according to the wiki’s description of the spawn rules, a Sundial Totem can spawn a hunt. The wiki notes one exception to the reset rule: when a Sundial Totem spawns a hunt, the 25% reduction to other hunts’ disturbance does not apply. The material reviewed does not explain the Sundial’s own spawn odds, so this guide does not state them.

Setting up for a target hunt
When you want a specific hunt, work through these checks in order:
- Location: Fish in the hunt’s own zone so that its disturbance receives the full amount.
- Rod: Check whether the rod has a disturbance stat or a Hunt Focus that names your target.
- Enchantments and bait: Compare the listed values, such as Ferocious (+4) or Toxic Boil (+10) as an other effect, and confirm they are current for your version.
- Threshold: Look up the hunt’s maximum, since a 5,000 hunt and a 12,000 hunt behave very differently.
- Conditions: Confirm any weather or location requirement, such as rain at Brine Pool for Brine Storm.
- Competing hunts: Expect that a spawn of another hunt resets that hunt’s value and reduces yours by 25%, except when a Sundial Totem caused the spawn.
No single rod or setup is established as best across all hunts. The right choice depends on which hunt you want and where it is located.
What is and is not established
The mechanics described here come from the unofficial Fisch Wiki, which is maintained by players, and from its stats page. No official developer documentation was located for these rules, and the figures have not been independently verified in-game for this guide. Community discussions on Reddit show that players often ask whether disturbance rises after each catch, during the minigame, or from Sundial Totems, which is why the layered answer above matters. Those discussions are useful for common confusion but are anecdotal and do not confirm the mechanics.
Values, item lists, and maximums can change with updates, so check the wiki’s current listing before planning around a specific number.

Disturbance is best understood as a per-hunt build-up that you control mainly through location and rod choice. Fish in the target hunt’s zone, use a rod whose Hunt Focus names that hunt if you have one, and expect the spawn check to be a timed roll rather than a guaranteed result.
