Nintendo has announced Switch 2 and controller revisions with user-replaceable batteries for a rolling European rollout. Its announcement does not confirm that the revised products are coming to the United States, so the claim that they are “headed to the U.S.” remains unverified.
Is the revised Switch 2 coming to the U.S.?
Nintendo’s announcement covers territories where Nintendo of Europe does business. It does not announce U.S. availability, a U.S. release date, or a U.S. price. Until Nintendo of America or a U.S. retailer provides specific confirmation, American buyers should not treat the revision as announced for their market. Nintendo’s announcement
The European transition is described as rolling, not as a single launch across all countries or retailers. Nintendo says dates are estimates that can vary by country and may change because of manufacturing, distribution, or other factors.
What is changing, and when?
Nintendo says the revised products will have user-replaceable batteries and that there is “no difference in functionality” between current products and the revised versions. The announcement gives these estimated availability windows for Nintendo Store in Europe:

These are Nintendo’s estimated earliest Nintendo Store availability dates, not guarantees of simultaneous availability at every European retailer. Nintendo also says battery replacement kits for each revised product will be sold through Nintendo Store in Europe in the future, without specifying a date.
How do the revised Switch 2 console specifications compare?
Nintendo lists a slightly smaller battery and higher weight for the revised console. The figures below are Nintendo’s approximate specifications, not independent measurements.

The announcement does not provide battery-life comparisons. The capacity figure alone does not establish how long either version lasts in play.

- For a paired controller, open System Settings on the console and check its listed serial number: the revised left Joy-Con begins with AX and the revised right Joy-Con with AW.
- Check the controller model marking. The revised left and right models end in (-01); earlier models do not.
- If inspecting the controller itself, Nintendo says the revised version uses Phillips screws and the earlier version uses Y-head screws. The revised model numbers are also shown in the packaging contents section.
Nintendo says batteries not designated user-replaceable should be removed only by qualified professionals. The revision does not mean existing Joy-Con are intended for consumer battery replacement.
What does this mean for Switch 2 compatibility?
Nintendo of America says original Switch Joy-Con can pair wirelessly with Switch 2, but cannot attach to the Switch 2 console. To charge them, owners need an original Switch console or a compatible accessory. Nintendo’s compatibility guidance also lists some original Switch accessories, including the older Joy-Con charging grip and Joy-Con AA battery pack, as incompatible with Joy-Con 2.
