You do not currently have to link Steam and PlayStation Network (PSN) accounts to play Helldivers 2 on Steam: Sony withdrew its planned mandatory-linking update in May 2024. If the game presents an optional linking prompt and you choose to link, follow the in-game instructions and sign in to the PSN account you intend to use. Linking does not transfer saves, purchases, or progression between PC and PS5.
Is Steam–PSN linking required for Helldivers 2?
No. Sony announced that the planned requirement for Steam players to link PSN accounts “will not be moving forward.” The deadlines mentioned in Sony’s original announcement are historical, not current requirements. Arrowhead’s current FAQ lists Steam and PlayStation 5 as supported platforms without making account linking a prerequisite.

How to link accounts if you choose to
- Check which Steam account you are using and which PSN account you plan to connect.
- If Helldivers 2 presents an account-linking prompt, follow the in-game instructions.
- Authenticate with the intended PSN account and complete the prompt. Do not assume the link will combine accounts or move game data between platforms.
These steps reflect the documented in-game prompt flow. The available official sources do not confirm a separate current procedure for unlinking or switching accounts. For account-specific help, contact the relevant official support team.
Linking, cross-play, and cross-progression
These are different things. Arrowhead says linking accounts does not copy Helldivers 2 game data between the PS5 and PC versions. It also says cross-buy and cross-save or cross-progression are unavailable, and support cannot merge accounts or transfer progression, DLC, or limited-time content between accounts. The game supports cross-play, which can be disabled; cross-play does not mean your progress carries between platforms.
