If you received six identical Xbox notifications titled “Mobile Test Message” with wording such as “This is a dummy message sent via Braze…”, they were part of an Xbox notification-testing error reported on February 25, 2026. Xbox acknowledged the errant messages, apologized for flooding users with test notifications, and said the problem was resolved.
Six alerts do not mean that six people signed into your Microsoft account, that six hacking attempts occurred, or that six devices were added. The number most likely reflects repeated delivery of the same test notification.
What did the Xbox notification say?
Users reported receiving a notification with the title “Mobile Test Message”. The body included wording similar to:
This is a dummy message sent via Braze, please capture a screenshot once you receive it. This should take you to the recently added gallery.

The alerts appeared repeatedly within a short period on both iPhone and Android devices. Reports documented several duplicate notifications for some users, while others said they received more than 10 or even 20. The exact number was different from person to person; there is no evidence that receiving six had any special meaning.
The message wording and February 25, 2026 timing were documented in a contemporaneous Microsoft Q&A incident thread. GameSpot also reported the incident and linked to Xbox’s public responses.
Why did I get the same message six times?
The strongest verified explanation is that a test notification intended for controlled testing was accidentally delivered to ordinary Xbox app users and then delivered repeatedly. Xbox described the event as “errant messaging”. In a follow-up, Xbox apologized and said the app had become “a little too enthusiastic with test notifications.”
That explains the repeated alerts, but Xbox did not publish the precise technical failure. It has not confirmed whether the problem involved:
- an incorrect audience or campaign setting;
- a test and customer-facing environment being mixed up;
- a delivery retry or duplication problem;
- a frequency-control mistake; or
- another internal configuration error.
It is reasonable to describe the message as a test notification that escaped into customer delivery. It is not accurate to state as a confirmed fact that someone pushed a test campaign into production, that Braze malfunctioned, or that an AI system caused the mistake.
Was it a scam or did someone hack Xbox?
For the exact February 25 notification, there was no public indication that recipients’ Microsoft or Xbox accounts were compromised. No public report reviewed for this incident established account theft, unauthorized purchases, malware, or a security breach connected to the alerts.
That does not mean every future message using the Xbox name is automatically safe. The reassurance applies when the notification matches the known incident: it came from the Xbox app, used the “Mobile Test Message” title, referred to a dummy message sent via Braze, and arrived repeatedly around the reported incident.

Treat the alert as a separate security issue if it:
Recommended Free Tools
- comes from an app other than Xbox;
- contains a shortened, unfamiliar, or external URL;
- asks you to enter your Microsoft password or a one-time security code;
- requests payment, gift cards, recovery information, or personal details;
- claims that your account will be closed unless you act immediately; or
- is accompanied by unfamiliar account activity, purchases, messages, profile changes, or changed security information.
Do not enter credentials or payment information merely because a notification displays an Xbox icon. If a newer alert differs from the documented wording, verify it independently through the Xbox or Microsoft app rather than following a link in the notification.
What is Braze?
Braze is a commercial customer-engagement and messaging platform. Businesses use services such as Braze to coordinate mobile push notifications, email, SMS/MMS, in-app messages, audience segmentation, campaign testing, and delivery controls.
In this notification, the word “Braze” identifies the messaging infrastructure or campaign tool involved in sending the push. It does not mean that Braze is a virus, that your phone was infected, or that a malicious person was controlling your Xbox account.
Braze also markets AI features, but it is broader than an AI product. Nothing in Xbox’s public explanation says that artificial intelligence selected the wrong recipients or caused the notification error. Blaming AI for this incident would be speculation.
What did “capture a screenshot” mean?
The request to capture a screenshot strongly appears to have been an internal quality-assurance instruction. A tester would typically confirm that a push notification arrived, check how it looked on a phone, and verify that tapping it opened the intended Xbox destination.
That is an inference from the message itself and from Braze’s support for campaign testing—not a published Xbox explanation of the exact test plan. Xbox was not asking ordinary users to complete an official support task, so you do not need to take a screenshot or send one to anyone who contacts you about the alert.

What was the “recently added gallery”?
Some users reported that tapping the notification opened a recently added-games area or a related gallery inside the Xbox app. The message appears to have included an Xbox deep link as its test destination.
That does not prove Xbox was launching a new feature called the “recently added gallery.” The notification may simply have used an existing in-app page to test whether the deep link worked. Xbox uses “Recently added” as a games-discovery category, but the gallery destination was primarily reported by users and was not fully explained in Xbox’s public apology.

- Dismiss the duplicates. If the notification matches the known wording, it is usually enough to clear it.
- Do not provide information. Do not enter a password, payment details, verification code, or recovery information after tapping an alert.
- Mute Xbox temporarily if needed. You can turn off notifications without deleting the app.
- Check your account only if there are other warning signs. Duplicate test notifications alone are not a reason to reset your password.
- Re-enable notifications later. Xbox said the documented incident was resolved on February 25, 2026.
Uninstalling the Xbox app is not the preferred first step. It may stop push notifications, but it is disruptive and does not improve the security of your Microsoft account. Disable notifications first and investigate the account separately only if something else looks wrong.

Can I turn them off inside the Xbox app?
Depending on the app version and platform, Xbox may also offer notification controls under Xbox app > Settings > Notifications. The mobile interface can change, so the phone’s system notification settings are the more reliable way to silence the alerts. Historical Microsoft community guidance has also pointed users to the Xbox app’s notification settings.
Do I need to change my Microsoft or Xbox password?
Not solely because you received six copies of this test notification. A password change is appropriate when there is independent evidence that someone may have accessed the account, such as:
- an unfamiliar successful sign-in;
- unexpected security-code requests;
- an altered email address, phone number, password, or recovery method;
- unknown purchases, subscriptions, or payment activity;
- messages, posts, or profile changes you did not make; or
- a notification that directed you to a suspicious login page.
To investigate, use Microsoft’s Recent activity page, which shows Microsoft-account activity from the previous 30 days. If you find activity you do not recognize, follow Microsoft’s guidance for responding to an unusual sign-in and secure the account.

What if I do not use the Xbox app?
That alone does not prove the message was malicious. Some users said they rarely or no longer used Xbox, and the public reports do not establish exactly why every recipient was included in the notification audience.
Check the alert’s system details to identify which app generated it, without following any embedded link. Then:
- Look for the Xbox app in your phone’s installed-app list.
- Check whether it is installed on another phone, tablet, or family device connected with the same Microsoft account.
- Review your Microsoft account’s recent activity if anything else seems suspicious.
- If no Xbox app is installed and the notification source is unclear, save a screenshot and contact Microsoft or Xbox Support through an official website rather than through a link in the alert.
What remains unknown?
Xbox confirmed the user-facing explanation—errant test notifications—and said the problem was resolved. It did not publicly identify the exact backend cause, publish an official recipient count, or confirm that a production/test environment mix-up occurred.
Likewise, reports that many users worldwide were affected and that some people received dozens of alerts came from media coverage and user reports, not an official Xbox count. The public sources reviewed through August 10, 2026, do not show a later Xbox explanation identifying a more specific technical cause or a separate recurring incident involving the same message.

Bottom line: If your six notifications matched the known “Mobile Test Message” wording, they were repeated Xbox test alerts—not six account breaches. Dismiss them or turn off Xbox notifications temporarily. Investigate your Microsoft account and change your password only if you also see genuine signs of unauthorized access.
Frequently Asked Questions
Is “Mobile Test Message” from Xbox a virus?
No evidence from the documented February 25, 2026 incident indicates that it was a virus or malware. It was an Xbox test notification delivered through Braze, a customer-engagement messaging platform.
Was my Microsoft account hacked because I received six alerts?
Not based on the notification alone. Xbox described the event as errant test messaging and said it was resolved. Check Microsoft Recent activity if you also see unknown sign-ins, purchases, account changes, or other suspicious activity.
Why did I receive exactly six Xbox notifications?
Six was simply the number of duplicate deliveries that reached your device. Other users reported different counts, including more than 10 or 20. It is not a security code or an account-status indicator.
Should I tap the Xbox test notification?
If you still have the documented alert, dismissing it is the safest option. Some users said tapping it opened the Xbox app or a recently added-games area, but never enter credentials, payment information, or security codes after following a notification.
What is Braze in the Xbox notification?
Braze is a business messaging platform used for push notifications, email, SMS, in-app messages, audience targeting, and campaign testing. Its name identifies the delivery service; it does not mean your account was hacked.
Why did I receive the alert if I do not use Xbox?
The public reports do not explain why every recipient was included. Verify which app generated the notification, check whether Xbox is installed on another device or family device, and contact Microsoft through an official support channel if the source remains unclear.
What if I am still receiving the same message?
The documented incident was declared resolved on February 25, 2026. If identical alerts continue or a new message differs in wording, disable Xbox notifications, confirm the originating app, and treat the new event separately—especially if it contains a login request, external link, payment request, or security code.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:

Six identical Xbox “Mobile Test Message” alerts were repeated test notifications from the February 25, 2026 incident. They do not, by themselves, indicate six hacks or a compromised Microsoft account. “Braze” is the messaging platform behind the push. Dismiss the alerts or mute Xbox notifications; check your account and change your password only if there are additional signs of unauthorized activity.
