What’s actually slowing this PC down?
Pick the symptom - the matching free tool is one click away.
If you already redeemed or associated the game with your Ubisoft account, open Ubisoft Connect PC and go to Library → select the game → ⋯ → Manage → Properties → General → Keys → Display Keys. Select Copy to copy the code, if that game exposes one.
If you have an unused code, use Profile → Key Activation instead. However, many games purchased through Steam, Epic Games Store, or the Ubisoft Store do not provide a separate activation code at all. Their ownership is linked automatically to your Ubisoft account. The correct solution depends on where you bought the game, which platform you are using, and whether you are trying to find an old key or redeem a new one.

First, determine which kind of code you need
Ubisoft Connect, Steam, retailers, and older games use several terms for different types of codes:
- Ubisoft Connect game key: a code that adds a PC game or other Ubisoft content to the Ubisoft account currently signed in.
- CD key or product key: alternate names for an activation code, especially in Steam menus, older PC games, and retailer order pages.
- DLC or bonus-content key: unlocks an expansion, season pass, deluxe pack, bonus mission, cosmetic item, or other additional content. It may not unlock the base game.
- Platform voucher: a code for PlayStation Network, Xbox, or Nintendo eShop. It is normally redeemed through that platform’s store, not Ubisoft Connect PC.
- Promo or reward code: a code distributed for an event, beta, Twitch or Prime Gaming promotion, or another reward. It may use a game-specific Ubisoft redemption page rather than the normal Ubisoft Connect activation screen.
Check the exact wording of the message and the platform printed on the purchase, voucher, or card before entering anything. A PlayStation voucher, for example, is not automatically a Ubisoft Connect PC key.

Find a key that is already associated with Ubisoft Connect
Ubisoft’s recent key-location instructions use this route in Ubisoft Connect PC:
- Open Ubisoft Connect PC and sign in to the Ubisoft account that owns the game.
- Open Library.
- Select the game.
- Open the three-dot menu.
- Choose Manage → Properties.
- Open the General tab.
- Under Keys, select Display Keys.
- Select Copy to copy the code.
See Ubisoft’s official instructions for locating a CD key. The article’s title refers to Steam, but the key-display route described for the Ubisoft launcher is the relevant one when the option is available.
Older Ubisoft Connect layouts used a different route: account name or profile → Account Information → My Games → Show Key. That Show Key option may still appear in older versions or with legacy products, but it is not a reliable description of the current launcher interface. Ubisoft’s older instructions are available in its article about locating an activation key in Ubisoft Connect PC.
Redeem an unused Ubisoft activation code
If you have a code from a retailer, physical copy, promotion, or another legitimate source, redeem it in Ubisoft Connect PC:
- Open Ubisoft Connect PC and sign in.
- Select your profile in the upper-left corner.
- Choose Key Activation.
- Enter the code in the Activation Code box.
- Select Activate.
Depending on the launcher version, the same feature may be under the three-line menu in the upper-left corner and may be labeled Activate a key. Ubisoft’s current support instructions are in its article on activating a key in Ubisoft Connect PC.
Before selecting Activate, check the account currently signed in. The game or content will be associated with that Ubisoft account. Activating it on a second account can make the ownership and account-linking problem harder to resolve. Do not create a new Ubisoft account as a first troubleshooting step.
Where the code should be, based on where you bought the game
| Purchase source | What to check | Should you expect a separate code? |
|---|---|---|
| Ubisoft Store | Check Ubisoft Connect Library and your Ubisoft Store order history. | Usually no. The game or content is generally added directly to the Ubisoft account. |
| Steam | In Steam, open Library → select the game → Manage → CD keys, if the option exists. Then launch the game from Steam. |
Only if that particular Steam title provides a key. Many do not. |
| Epic Games Store | Launch the game from Epic and sign in to the Ubisoft account requested during the first launch. | Normally no separate key for a game purchased directly from Epic. |
| Third-party digital retailer | Check the retailer’s order page, account library, and purchase email. | Usually yes when the product listing says Ubisoft Connect activation is required. |
| Physical PC copy | Look for a card, insert, manual, sticker, or label inside the box. | Often, particularly for older PC releases. A missing or used code is usually a retailer issue first. |
| Promotion or reward | Follow the instructions supplied with the promotion and use its specific Ubisoft redemption page. | It depends on the promotion. It may not use the standard Ubisoft Connect key screen. |
| PlayStation, Xbox, or Nintendo purchase | Redeem the voucher in the relevant console store. | It is normally a platform voucher, not a Ubisoft Connect PC key. |
Steam: check for a CD key, but do not assume one exists
For a Steam purchase, open the Steam client and try:
Library → select the game → right-click or open the gear menu → Manage → CD keys

- Everything you want to play. Choose from the largest library of PlayStation content.
- Use gift card funds to contribute towards PlayStationPlus memberships.
Steam only displays that option for games that actually provide a Steam CD key. Valve explicitly explains that CD keys are not available or required for every game in its official CD-key guidance. If CD keys is absent, there may be no hidden Steam code to find.
Many newer Ubisoft games sold through Steam use an entitlement and account-linking process instead of a manually entered key. On the first launch, Steam may open Ubisoft Connect or an embedded Ubisoft Connect component and ask you to link the Steam account to a Ubisoft account. Some titles use a one-time linking process rather than issuing a physical or visible product key.
For that reason, start the game from Steam rather than from an old desktop shortcut or the game’s executable. If Ubisoft Connect asks for a key despite a valid Steam purchase, check the linked account and follow the troubleshooting steps below before buying another code.

Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsFree Scan →Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteDriver Scan →Epic Games Store: direct purchases normally do not have a Ubisoft key
If you bought the Ubisoft game directly from Epic Games Store, Epic says that a product key is not normally required. The usual process is:
- Open the Epic Games Launcher.
- Launch the game from your Epic Library.
- Sign in to the Ubisoft account requested by Ubisoft Connect.
- Allow the Epic and Ubisoft accounts to link if prompted.
Epic’s official Ubisoft CD-key support page explains this no-separate-key model. If Ubisoft Connect asks for a code after an Epic purchase, do not assume Epic has failed to send an email containing one. The more likely possibilities are that the wrong Ubisoft account is signed in, the first-launch account link did not complete, or the game was started outside Epic.
Ubisoft Store purchases: look for the entitlement, not an email code
For a game bought directly from Ubisoft, check whether it appears in the Ubisoft Connect library and confirm the purchase in your order history. Ubisoft product pages describe PC purchases as being added to the Ubisoft Connect library automatically rather than delivered as a separate activation code.
If the game is missing from the library, verify that Ubisoft Connect is signed in to the account used for the purchase. If the order is present but the game is not, contact Ubisoft Support with the order number and receipt instead of trying random codes from the internet.

Third-party retailers and physical copies
A legitimate third-party digital retailer normally displays the code in the order details, account library, or confirmation email. For example, Gamesplanet says that an activation key appears in the game details in the customer’s order or library when the product requires one. Check the retailer’s own support page or My Games and order details.
For a boxed PC copy, inspect the entire package for a printed card, insert, manual, or label. Do not publish a photograph of the code online. If the code is missing, unreadable, invalid, or already used, the retailer that sold the copy is generally the first party to contact. Keep the receipt, packaging, and any proof of purchase.

A key marked already used is not automatically proof that the seller stole it or that the code is fraudulent. It may have been activated on another Ubisoft account, activated before resale, or redeemed by someone who previously had access to the package. Avoid repeatedly entering it and ask the retailer to investigate. Ubisoft Support may also need to confirm which account owns the entitlement.
If Ubisoft Connect keeps asking for a code you never received
Use this recovery sequence. It addresses the common account-linking and storefront-entitlement problems before you spend money on another key.
Recommended Free Tools
- Identify the purchase source. Determine whether the game came from Ubisoft, Steam, Epic, a third-party retailer, a physical copy, or a console store. The source determines whether a code should exist.
- Check the Ubisoft library. Sign in to Ubisoft Connect and see whether the exact game and edition appear in Library. A game appearing in the library usually indicates that the account has an entitlement, even if no visible code is provided.
- Confirm the Ubisoft account. Sign out if necessary and sign back in using the account that was used during purchase or first launch. Do not create another account to test the process.
- Inspect linked accounts. Open Ubisoft’s Account Information page and review the linked Steam, Epic, PlayStation, Xbox, or other platform account. The platform account that owns the purchase must be linked to the Ubisoft account with the entitlement.
- Fully close the launchers. Exit Ubisoft Connect, Steam, and Epic rather than leaving them minimized in the notification area. Restart the computer, then open the purchasing storefront first.
- Update Ubisoft Connect. Download the current PC client from Ubisoft’s official Ubisoft Connect download page if the installed launcher is outdated or behaving differently from the support instructions.
- Launch from the purchasing storefront. Start a Steam purchase from Steam and an Epic purchase from Epic. This allows the storefront-to-Ubisoft ownership handshake to run. Avoid an old shortcut or standalone executable while troubleshooting.
- Verify the game files. In Steam, use the game’s Properties → Installed Files → Verify integrity of game files. In Epic, open the game’s three-dot menu, choose Manage, and select Verify. Exact labels can change with launcher updates.
- Check the edition or DLC entry. If the prompt names a deluxe pack, season pass, expansion, or bonus item, inspect that separate item in the Ubisoft library or the game’s properties. A base-game entitlement does not necessarily include separately sold DLC.
- Contact the correct support team. Provide proof of purchase and explain that Ubisoft Connect is requesting a key that was never issued. Do not buy a second key until the first entitlement has been investigated.
Check account linking before changing anything
A legitimate Steam or Epic purchase can appear unusable when the storefront is linked to a different Ubisoft account. Open Ubisoft Account Information and confirm the linked platform account. Ubisoft’s account-linking guidance explains where linked accounts can be reviewed.
Be cautious about unlinking and relinking accounts. Ubisoft account changes can affect access to platform entitlements, progression, and cross-platform services, depending on the game. Support may need to correct the account association, and there is no general guarantee that a game can simply be transferred from one Ubisoft account to another.
What common messages mean
| Message or symptom | Likely meaning | What to do |
|---|---|---|
| Activation code required | The launcher is not seeing the expected entitlement or account link, or the product genuinely uses a key. | Identify the purchase source, confirm the linked Ubisoft account, and launch from Steam or Epic if applicable. |
| Display Keys is missing | The game may not expose a visible key, may use automatic entitlement, or you may be viewing the wrong account or item. | Check the library, edition, purchase source, and linked accounts. Do not assume a code exists. |
| Show Key is missing | The older launcher route may no longer apply, or the title may not have a displayable key. | Try Library → game → ⋯ → Manage → Properties → General. If no key appears, contact the seller or Ubisoft as appropriate. |
| Code already used | The code has been redeemed on a Ubisoft account, possibly one different from the account currently signed in. | Check every Ubisoft account you may have used, inspect linked accounts, and contact the retailer or Ubisoft Support. Do not keep retrying. |
| Invalid code | The code may be mistyped, for another platform, for another edition, expired, or not legitimate. | Re-enter it carefully and check characters such as 0/O and 1/I. Confirm the platform, edition, region, and seller. |
| Region or territory error | The code may be restricted to a different country or territory. | Confirm the permitted region with the seller. Do not use a VPN to bypass a regional restriction; it can prevent activation and complicate support eligibility. |
| Game not in library | The wrong Ubisoft account may be signed in, the storefront link may be incomplete, or the purchase has not synchronized. | Check Account Information, restart both launchers, launch from the purchasing storefront, and contact the relevant support team with proof of purchase. |
| Ownership could not be authenticated | Ubisoft Connect cannot validate the connection between the storefront account and the Ubisoft entitlement. | Restart and update the launchers, verify files, use the original storefront to launch, and escalate with account and purchase details if it continues. |
| DLC is missing after activation | The code may have unlocked a separate content item, used a different edition, or been purchased for an incompatible base game or platform. | Compare the exact DLC, edition, platform, and base-game ownership. DLC purchased through Ubisoft.com or Ubisoft Connect may require a compatible base game from the same platform ecosystem. |
Invalid, region-locked, or wrong-platform codes
Before contacting support about an invalid code, verify all of the following:
- It is for Ubisoft Connect PC, not Steam, Epic, PlayStation, Xbox, or Nintendo.
- It matches the exact game, edition, and content named in the prompt.
- Your Ubisoft account country or region is compatible with the code’s permitted territory.
- The code came from an authorized or legitimate seller.
- You entered every character correctly, including hyphens if the field requires them.
- The code has not already been redeemed.
Do not recommend using a VPN to evade a region restriction. Ubisoft’s Store Terms of Sale explain that availability and use can depend on territory. A region workaround may also leave the purchase unsupported.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors2Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches3Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsDLC, deluxe editions, and bonus codes
A code prompt does not always refer to the base game. It may be asking for a key for a deluxe pack, season pass, expansion, bonus mission, cosmetics, or legacy-game content.
Compare the exact product name in the message with the entries in your Ubisoft Connect library. Select the game and inspect Properties and any owned-content or DLC section available in your launcher. If the base game is present but the additional content is not, look for a separate key or entitlement entry for that DLC or edition.
Platform compatibility matters. A PC DLC code cannot normally be used to add console DLC, and DLC bought through one storefront may require a compatible base game from that same platform ecosystem. A base-game code will not necessarily unlock a season pass, and a bonus-content code will not necessarily provide the full game.

Promotions, beta access, and reward codes
Codes from a beta, event, Twitch, TikTok, Prime Gaming, or another promotion may have their own redemption instructions. Some are redeemed on a promotion-specific Ubisoft page, while others require linking an external account first. Follow the instructions supplied with that promotion rather than assuming that Key Activation in Ubisoft Connect is the correct destination.
For example, Ubisoft’s instructions for some game rewards provide a separate redemption route and account-linking process, as shown in this Ubisoft reward-code example.
Console, cloud-gaming, and Chromebook users
The steps above primarily apply to Ubisoft Connect PC. Console purchases and vouchers are normally handled through PlayStation Network, Xbox, or Nintendo’s store. Ubisoft Connect is available across PC and consoles, but activation, ownership, cross-play, and cross-progression vary by game and platform. A console voucher should not be entered into the PC activation screen unless the voucher’s instructions explicitly say to do so.
Users on GeForce NOW, Chromebook, or another cloud service may not have access to the full Windows Ubisoft Connect client. If possible, redeem a PC code before starting the cloud session. Otherwise, follow the cloud provider’s instructions and use an in-game Ubisoft Connect overlay only if that particular service and game provide one. This is platform-dependent, not a universal alternative to Ubisoft Connect PC.
Who should you contact?
| Problem | First support contact |
|---|---|
| Ubisoft Store order missing from the Ubisoft library | Ubisoft Support |
| Steam CD-key option missing or Steam purchase problem | Steam Support for the purchase or key-display issue; Ubisoft Support for Ubisoft account-linking and launcher ownership issues |
| Epic purchase or transaction problem | Epic Support for the purchase; Ubisoft Support for Ubisoft-account activation or linking |
| Third-party key missing, invalid, region-locked, or already used | The retailer that sold the key, with Ubisoft Support if account ownership also needs investigation |
| Missing or unreadable code in a physical package | The retailer first, keeping the receipt and packaging |
| Promotion or reward code not working | The promotion organizer or its listed support channel, then Ubisoft if the issue is account redemption |
When contacting support, prepare the following:
- The game title and exact edition.
- The platform and store where it was purchased.
- The order number, receipt, or other proof of purchase.
- The Ubisoft username and account email, without posting them publicly.
- The associated Steam, Epic, PlayStation, Xbox, or Nintendo account information where relevant.
- A screenshot of the activation prompt or error.
- A screenshot showing the game or DLC in the library, if it appears there.
- The retailer’s name and the full wording of any invalid, used, or region error.
Use the Ubisoft Support portal for Ubisoft account, launcher, and entitlement questions. Do not send a full unused key in a public forum or to an unverified person claiming to provide support.
Frequently Asked Questions
Can Ubisoft Support recover my activation code if Display Keys is missing?
Not necessarily. A missing Display Keys option can mean that the game has no visible key and uses automatic account entitlement. If the code came from a retailer, that retailer may be the only party able to replace or investigate it. Ubisoft Support can help verify an account entitlement when you provide proof of purchase, but you should not assume that every game has a recoverable code.
Do Ubisoft games bought on Epic Games Store need an activation code?
Usually not when the game was purchased directly through Epic. Launch it from Epic, sign in to the correct Ubisoft account, and complete the account link. If Ubisoft Connect still asks for a code, check the linked accounts and restart both launchers rather than searching for an Epic product-key email.
Can I move a Ubisoft game key to another Ubisoft account?
Do not assume that you can. A redeemed key is associated with the Ubisoft account used during activation, and platform links can affect progression and access. Contact Ubisoft Support before unlinking accounts or attempting a transfer; there is no general guarantee that an entitlement can be moved.
Why does Steam show no CD keys option for my Ubisoft game?
Steam only shows CD keys for titles that actually provide them. Many Ubisoft Steam releases use automatic entitlement and a one-time Steam-to-Ubisoft account link instead. The missing menu can therefore be normal.
The Bottom Line
Use Library → game → ⋯ → Manage → Properties → General → Display Keys only when you are trying to view a key that Ubisoft Connect exposes. Use Profile → Key Activation for a new code. If the game came from Steam, Epic, or Ubisoft Store, you may not have a separate code at all—verify the linked Ubisoft account and launch through the store where you bought it.
