1Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems2Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches3Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsau30dal.dll is an old Aureal Vortex audio utility file, not a normal Windows component. If Windows reports that au30dal.dll is missing, was not found, or could not be loaded, restore the Aureal Vortex driver or the legacy application that originally installed it rather than downloading a loose DLL.
The file is described as Vortex Graphic Equalizer DLL and is associated with Aureal, Inc. It appeared in historical Vortex sound-card control-panel and equalizer software, including packages related to AU8810, AU8820, and AU8830 hardware.
What au30dal.dll is
| Item | Identification |
|---|---|
| File | au30dal.dll |
| Description | Vortex Graphic Equalizer DLL |
| Associated software | Aureal Vortex audio software |
| Publisher | Aureal, Inc. |
| File type | Third-party application or driver-package DLL |
| Windows component | No reliable evidence indicates that it is part of Windows |
| Modern support | Not confirmed for Windows 10 or Windows 11 |
The exact version, file size, hash, and architecture should not be assumed. Historical file records disagree about those details. The correct copy depends on the calling program, the Vortex card or application involved, and the operating system for which that package was designed.
Common messages include:
- “The program can’t start because au30dal.dll is missing from your computer.”
- “This application failed to start because au30dal.dll was not found.”
- “Error loading au30dal.dll.”
- “Failed to load au30dal.dll.”
- “The file au30dal.dll is missing or corrupted.”
- “Cannot register au30dal.dll.”
The wording can vary by Windows version and by the program requesting the file.

First, identify what is requesting the DLL
Do not begin by copying a replacement into System32. The directory containing the file, or the program that produces the error, usually reveals the correct repair.
Check the error window
Note when the message appears:
- Immediately when Windows starts
- When opening an Aureal or Vortex control panel
- When launching an old game
- When starting another legacy audio application
- After uninstalling hardware or software
- After antivirus software removed a file
If the message appears only when launching an old game, repair that game first. If it appears when opening a Vortex equalizer or sound-card utility, repair the Aureal package instead.
Search common locations
Open Command Prompt and run these commands one at a time:
where /r "%ProgramFiles%" au30dal.dll
where /r "%ProgramFiles(x86)%" au30dal.dll
where /r "%windir%" au30dal.dll
The search can take a while. If a command reports that it cannot find the file, that only means the file is absent from that location.

Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteDriver Scan →Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsFix Now →If Windows finds a copy, right-click it in File Explorer, choose Properties, and open the Details tab. Check the description, publisher information, and the folder containing the file. A folder belonging to a Vortex control panel points to the sound-card package. A game folder points to the game installation.
Do not treat a copy found in an unexpected temporary folder as trustworthy.
Fix 1: Repair or reinstall the program that reports the error
This is the safest first repair when an old game or application displays the message.
Use an available repair option
- Press Windows + I to open Settings.
- Select Apps.
- Select Installed apps.
- Find the game or application that produces the error.
- Select the three-dot menu beside it.
- Choose Advanced options, if available.
- Select Repair.
- Start the application again.
Not every legacy program provides Repair. If the option is missing, use the original installer or the program’s launcher.
What’s actually slowing this PC down?
Pick the symptom - the matching free tool is one click away.
For a game launcher:
- Open the launcher.
- Open the game library.
- Select the affected game.
- Open its settings or management menu.
- Choose Verify, Repair, or Verify integrity of files, if available.
- Wait for the process to finish.
- Launch the game again.
Reinstall the application
If repair does not restore the file:
- Save any application settings or game saves that are stored inside the program folder.
- Open Settings > Apps > Installed apps.
- Select the affected application.
- Choose Uninstall.
- Restart Windows.
- Reinstall it from its original installer or the vendor’s trusted distribution channel.
- Start it again before adding unofficial patches or modifications.
A complete reinstall is more reliable than downloading au30dal.dll separately because the program may also need companion files, registry settings, configuration data, or a specific version of the DLL.
If the application is very old, its installer may not run correctly on Windows 10 or Windows 11. In that case, compatibility is part of the problem rather than just the missing file.
Fix 2: Restore the matching Aureal Vortex package
If the error belongs to an Aureal Vortex control panel, equalizer, or sound-card utility, reinstall the complete package for the installed hardware.

Vortex-family cards included AU8810, AU8820, and AU8830-based hardware. Cards sold by other vendors, including some Turtle Beach and Diamond products, may use different packages even when they contain related Aureal technology.
Identify the sound card
- Right-click the Start button.
- Select Device Manager.
- Expand Sound, video and game controllers.
- Look for an Aureal Vortex, AU8820, AU8830, or vendor-specific audio device.
- Double-click the device.
- Open the Details tab.
- Select Hardware Ids from the Property list.
- Record the displayed values.
If the card is not listed there, check Other devices for an unknown multimedia or audio controller. Also check View > Show hidden devices, but do not assume that a greyed-out entry represents hardware currently installed.
Remove only the obsolete package when appropriate
If the old control panel is damaged but the card is still installed:
- Open Settings > Apps > Installed apps.
- Look for Aureal, Vortex, or the card manufacturer’s audio utility.
- Uninstall the related control panel or utility.
- Restart Windows.
- Install the correct package for the exact card and target operating system.
Do not remove a working audio device driver solely because a separate equalizer utility is missing. If you are unsure which entry belongs to the Vortex hardware, record the device name and hardware ID before uninstalling anything.
Microsoft’s Update Catalog search for Aureal drivers contains historical entries for Aureal Vortex 8810, 8820, and 8830 Audio, the Vortex Game Port, and the Vortex Multifunction PCI Parent. These packages target legacy Windows versions, including Windows XP and Windows Server 2003, rather than current Windows 10 or Windows 11 installations.

Random freezes, missing sound and display glitches usually trace back to one bad driver. Find and replace yours safely.Free scan · under a minuteThe matching package must correspond to:
- The exact sound-card model
- The vendor version of the card
- The calling application
- The operating system
- The required 32-bit or 64-bit environment
Do not install an AU8830 package on the assumption that it works for every Aureal card.
Manually comparing old driver packages, hardware IDs, and operating-system compatibility can involve hunting through numerous legacy releases. Outbyte Driver Updater can scan for outdated drivers and show what needs attention, while the full version performs the driver installation; for this specific DLL, however, reinstalling the correct Aureal or application package remains the definitive repair.
Be realistic about Windows 10 and Windows 11
Aureal hardware and its control panels predate modern Windows security and driver models. A historical driver may install only partially, refuse to start, or install a basic audio driver without its original equalizer interface.
If the Vortex utility does not work after installing the matching package:
Free tools Windows power users keep installed
One-click scans. No signup required.
- Right-click the installer.
- Select Properties.
- Open the Compatibility tab.
- Select Run this program in compatibility mode for.
- Try the operating system targeted by the package.
- Select Run this program as an administrator.
- Choose Apply, then OK.
- Run the installer again.
Compatibility mode cannot make an unsupported kernel driver safe or functional. If the card still fails, the practical solution may be a Windows 98, Windows ME, Windows 2000, or Windows XP computer or virtual machine dedicated to the legacy hardware.
Some old Aureal control panels also had a Windows XP or Server 2003 version-detection problem. A control-panel patch may address that narrow issue, but it does not establish general Windows 10 or Windows 11 compatibility.
Fix 3: Check Windows Security quarantine
Antivirus software may have quarantined or deleted the file. This is more plausible when the Vortex program worked until a security scan or update.

- MICROSOFT WINDOWS 11 PRO (INGLES) FPP 64-BIT ENG INTL USB FLASH DRIVE
- Open the Start menu.
- Type Windows Security.
- Open it.
- Select Virus & threat protection.
- Select Protection history.
- Review recent detections.
- Expand an entry that identifies the Vortex program or its DLL.
- Confirm that the detected path belongs to the trusted Aureal package or the original application.
- Choose Restore only if the source is trusted.
Do not restore a DLL simply because its filename matches the error. A file downloaded from an unknown source should not be allowed back onto the system. Microsoft notes that restored files can be detected again if security software still considers them unsafe. See Microsoft’s guidance on Protection history.
The safer repair is to reinstall the complete trusted package and allow Windows Security to scan it.
Fix 4: Check 32-bit and 64-bit compatibility
A missing-DLL message can actually be an architecture mismatch or a dependency failure.
A 32-bit legacy application generally needs the 32-bit version of its supporting DLL. A 64-bit application cannot use an arbitrary 32-bit replacement. Installing copies in both system directories does not solve that problem.
Do not assume that System32 means “32-bit.” On 64-bit Windows, System32 is the native 64-bit system directory, while SysWOW64 contains redirected 32-bit system components. Microsoft documents this behavior in its file-system redirector documentation.
More importantly, au30dal.dll normally belongs beside the application or inside the driver utility’s installation directory. It is not automatically supposed to be placed in either system directory.
If the message says “The specified module could not be found,” the named DLL may exist while one of its dependencies is missing. Reinstalling the complete package is safer than guessing which dependency to copy.
Fix 5: Run DISM and System File Checker
Use these commands for general Windows component corruption, not as the primary repair for au30dal.dll. Microsoft’s tools repair protected Windows components and generally will not recreate a third-party Aureal DLL that Windows never supplied.
- Open the Start menu.
- Type Command Prompt.
- Right-click Command Prompt.
- Select Run as administrator.
- Select Yes at the User Account Control prompt.
- Run:
DISM.exe /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth
- Wait for it to finish.
- Then run:
sfc /scannow
- Restart Windows.
- Test the application again.
DISM may take time and can appear to pause. Do not close the window while it is running.
If SFC reports that it found and repaired corrupted files, restart and retest. If it reports that it could not repair some files, repeat the procedure after DISM completes successfully, then inspect the application or Aureal package rather than repeatedly running SFC.
When manually running DISM and SFC, the difficult part is knowing which system change caused the problem and whether the commands changed anything relevant. Outbyte PC Repair can scan for Windows issues and show its findings, while repairs require the full version; it is not a substitute for reinstalling the specific Aureal program that owns au30dal.dll.
Fix 6: Use System Restore after a recent change
If the error began immediately after a driver installation, Windows update, or software removal, System Restore may reverse the change.

Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone. Why regsvr32 usually does not help
regsvr32 is not a general-purpose DLL repair command. It is intended for DLLs that expose registration entry points such as DllRegisterServer or DllInstall.
There is no verified evidence that au30dal.dll is an ActiveX or COM component requiring registration. Running:
regsvr32 au30dal.dll
may produce another error, including an entry-point or module error. It does not restore a deleted file, install missing dependencies, or make an old driver compatible with Windows 11.
Use regsvr32 only when documentation for the verified application specifically instructs you to register that DLL. Microsoft documents the command and its supported registration entry points in its regsvr32 reference.
What not to do
Do not download a loose DLL
Random DLL download sites pages can provide:
- The wrong version
- The wrong architecture
- A file modified by an unknown party
- A DLL that lacks its companion files
- A copy that does not match the installed application
Even a clean copy may not fix the problem because the application could be missing another dependency or using an incompatible driver package.
Use the original application installer, the sound-card vendor’s archived package when it can be verified, or Microsoft’s historical Update Catalog for applicable legacy driver entries.
Do not copy it into System32 or SysWOW64 by default
Windows searches several directories when loading a DLL. Copying an unrelated version into a searched directory can create conflicts and can expose the system to DLL hijacking. Microsoft describes the DLL search order and DLL security risks.
Restore the file to the directory used by the program that owns it.
Do not install Visual C++, DirectX, or .NET as the primary fix
There is no evidence that a Visual C++ Redistributable, DirectX package, or .NET Framework package supplies au30dal.dll. Those runtimes may be needed by a separate old game or utility, but installing them should not be presented as the definitive repair for this file.

Do not force an obsolete utility to run at startup
If you no longer own an Aureal Vortex card and no current application needs the utility:
- Open Settings > Apps > Startup.
- Turn off the obsolete Vortex entry.
- Open Settings > Apps > Installed apps.
- Uninstall the unused Aureal or Vortex control panel.
- Restart Windows.
Removing the obsolete caller is safer than keeping a broken startup reference or replacing the DLL with an unknown copy.
FAQ
Is au30dal.dll part of Windows?
No reliable evidence indicates that it is a current Windows system DLL. It is associated with Aureal Vortex audio software.
Is it a DirectX or Visual C++ file?
No. It is identified as the Vortex Graphic Equalizer DLL. DirectX or Visual C++ may be dependencies of another legacy program, but neither is established as the source of this file.
Should I put au30dal.dll in System32?
No. Do not assume a system-directory location. Restore it through the application or driver package that originally supplied it.
Does Microsoft provide a current download for it?
There is no verified current Aureal vendor download page for this file. Microsoft’s Update Catalog contains historical Vortex driver entries, but those packages target legacy Windows environments and are not a universal Windows 10 or Windows 11 solution.
Will SFC fix the error?
Usually not. SFC repairs protected Windows files, while au30dal.dll is a third-party Aureal file. Run DISM and SFC only as a secondary check for broader Windows corruption.
Why does the message say that a module is missing when the DLL exists?
A dependency of au30dal.dll may be missing, or the installed DLL may be incompatible with the calling program. Reinstall the complete matching package rather than copying more individual files.
What if I no longer use Aureal hardware?
Uninstall the obsolete Vortex utility or disable its startup entry. If a legacy game still needs the file, repair or reinstall that game instead.
Can this be fixed on Windows 11?
Sometimes the application can run with compatibility settings, but modern Windows support for Aureal hardware and utilities is not confirmed. A supported legacy Windows environment may be required for the original control panel or driver.
