Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems2Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches3Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsbandstandvst.dll is the Windows VST plug-in file for Native Instruments Bandstand. If Windows or a music program reports that bandstandvst.dll is missing, not found, or could not be loaded, repair Bandstand and its VST path rather than copying a replacement DLL into a Windows folder.
Start with this diagnostic checklist
Before changing anything, note:
- Which program shows the error: a DAW, MIDI program, Band-in-a-Box, or another VST host.
- When it appears: while Windows starts, when the host scans plug-ins, or when you load a Bandstand instrument.
- Whether Bandstand is still installed: check the Native Instruments program folder and the VST plug-in folder.
- Whether the file was quarantined: check Windows Security Protection History and any third-party antivirus quarantine.
- Whether the host is 32-bit or 64-bit: public file metadata identifies
bandstandvst.dllas a 32-bit file, although Native Instruments’ authoritative binary specification was not located. - Whether the problem affects one host or every host: one-host failures usually indicate a VST path or cache issue.
This file is not part of Windows. It is not a Microsoft runtime, device driver, DirectX component, or general-purpose system DLL.
Fix 1: Confirm that Bandstand and the VST file are installed
The fastest fix is to locate the original Bandstand installation.
- Press Windows + E to open File Explorer.
- Check the folder where Bandstand was installed. A common VST location resembles:
text
C:Program FilesNative InstrumentsBandstandVSTPlugins

- Look for
bandstandvst.dll. - If you find it, right-click the file, select Properties, and open the Details tab.
- Confirm that the file description identifies it as Bandstand.
- Write down the complete folder path. Do not move the file yet.
- Open the affected DAW or MIDI host.
- Open its plug-in settings, plug-in manager, or VST search-path settings.
- Add the folder containing
bandstandvst.dllto the host’s VST search paths. - Start a full plug-in rescan.
- Close and reopen the host, then try loading Bandstand.
The exact menu name differs between programs. Do not add a random parent folder just because it contains other plug-ins. Add the folder that actually contains bandstandvst.dll.
If the file is present and the host still says it is missing, the host may be scanning a different folder, using a stale cache, or unable to load one of Bandstand’s dependencies.
Fix 2: Reinstall Bandstand from legitimate original media
If bandstandvst.dll is not present, reinstall the complete Bandstand product. Reinstalling the DAW alone usually will not restore a plug-in supplied by Native Instruments.
Use the original licensed installer, installation media, or a backup from the system where Bandstand was legitimately installed.

- If an existing Bandstand entry is available, select its menu button and choose Uninstall only if you have the original installer available.
- Restart Windows.
- Run the legitimate Bandstand installer.
- When the installer asks for a VST location, choose a folder that your DAW can scan.
- Allow the installer to install the complete product, not only a shortcut or standalone component.
- Restart Windows again.
- Add the selected VST folder to the host’s plug-in search path.
- Rescan plug-ins and load Bandstand.
Bandstand also had standalone and DXi forms. The file covered here is specifically its VST plug-in, so reinstalling only another format does not necessarily restore bandstandvst.dll.
Important limitation for old Bandstand installations
Native Instruments lists Bandstand as a discontinued legacy product. It is among the products that cannot be activated through current Native Access workflows. An already installed and activated copy may continue to work, but reinstallation or reactivation may not be available on a replacement computer.
If the original installer, license information, and previously authorized computer are unavailable, contact Native Instruments support or restore the old authorized system if possible. Do not assume that installing Native Access will provide a working Bandstand download.
Fix 3: Repair the host’s VST path and plug-in cache
A VST host does not normally find plug-ins through Windows DLL registration. It scans configured folders. A file can exist on the disk while the host reports it as missing because the host is looking somewhere else.
Use this process:
- Open the affected DAW or MIDI application.
- Open Preferences, Settings, or Options.
- Find Plug-ins, VST, VST3, Plugin Manager, or File Locations.
- Review every VST search folder.
- Add the exact folder containing
bandstandvst.dll. - Remove old paths that point to a deleted drive, obsolete Bandstand folder, or disconnected backup disk.
- Save the settings.
- Start a full rescan rather than a quick scan.
- If the host has a blocked, failed, or ignored plug-in list, remove the old Bandstand entry from that list.
- Restart the host and test again.
If only one DAW reports the error while another host loads Bandstand, the Bandstand installation is probably intact. Repair that DAW’s path or cache instead of replacing the DLL.

Do not delete host configuration files unless you have backed them up and know the host’s reset procedure. Cache locations and recovery steps differ by application.
Fix 4: Check antivirus quarantine
Security software can remove or quarantine an old plug-in even when the original installation was legitimate. Quarantine does not prove that the file is malware, but a file found in an unexpected folder should be treated cautiously.
Windows Security
- Open Settings with Windows + I.
- Select Privacy & security.
- Select Windows Security.
- Choose Virus & threat protection.
- Select Protection history.
- Look for an event involving Bandstand or
bandstandvst.dll. - Review the file path and detection details.
- Restore the file only if it clearly belongs to your licensed Bandstand installation.
- Run a scan on the original installer or installation media before reinstalling.
- Rescan the VST folder in the host.
Do not create a permanent antivirus exclusion merely to make the error disappear. If the file was downloaded from an unofficial DLL site, remove it and scan the computer instead of restoring it.
Fix 5: Check 32-bit and 64-bit compatibility
Public file metadata identifies bandstandvst.dll as a 32-bit plug-in. That matters when the host is 64-bit.
- A 32-bit host can generally load a 32-bit VST directly.
- A 64-bit host may require a compatible bridging solution to load a 32-bit VST.
- A host may hide, reject, or disable a plug-in that does not match its architecture.
- Copying the file into another folder does not convert it from 32-bit to 64-bit.
- No reliable evidence confirms an official 64-bit Native Instruments build of this file.
Check the host’s architecture in its Help, About, or installation information screen. If a 64-bit host rejects Bandstand but a compatible 32-bit host loads it, the issue is architecture compatibility rather than a missing Windows DLL.
Avoid downloading a supposed 64-bit replacement. A different architecture would not be a safe substitute for the original plug-in.
Fix 6: Interpret “the specified module could not be found”
This message does not always mean that bandstandvst.dll itself is absent. Windows can report that the named module was not found when the file exists but a dependency required by that file is missing.

Do not install a runtime simply because bandstandvst.dll is missing. There is no authoritative evidence that Bandstand requires one particular Visual C++ package.

If the error names another Bandstand component, repair or reinstall the complete Bandstand installation. Copying only the named dependency from a different computer can create a version or architecture mismatch.
Fix 7: Repair Windows components when broader Windows problems exist
System File Checker and DISM repair protected Windows components. They normally will not recreate a missing Native Instruments plug-in, so use them when you also have broader Windows corruption, damaged system services, or errors involving protected Windows files.

- Wait for it to finish.
- Then run:
text

- Wait until verification reaches 100 percent.
- Restart Windows.
- Test the DAW again.
Microsoft documents this DISM-then-SFC sequence in its guide to repairing missing or corrupted system files.
The result may say that no integrity violations were found, that corrupt files were repaired, or that some files could not be repaired. None of these outcomes reinstalls Bandstand. If bandstandvst.dll is still absent, return to the Bandstand installer and VST-path steps.
Repeatedly running SFC and DISM without knowing what changed can waste time while leaving the actual plug-in problem untouched. Outbyte PC Repair can scan for system issues and show what it identifies; repairs are performed by the full version, and reinstalling Bandstand remains the definitive fix when the application file itself is missing.

Windows Update is not expected to supply bandstandvst.dll. It can still be useful if the host fails after a broader operating-system update or if audio devices are also malfunctioning.
To check Windows Update:
- Open Settings.
- Select Windows Update.
- Select Check for updates.
- Install applicable updates.
- Restart when prompted.
- Test the host again.
If the error appears together with missing audio devices, driver failures, or an exclamation mark in Device Manager, inspect the audio driver:
- Right-click Start.
- Select Device Manager.
- Expand Sound, video and game controllers.
- Right-click the affected audio device.
- Select Properties and read the Device status message.
- Use the Driver tab to roll back, update, or uninstall the device driver as appropriate.
- Restart Windows and install the driver from the hardware manufacturer if necessary.
Do not expect Device Manager to repair a VST plug-in. It manages hardware drivers, not Bandstand files.
Manually locating drivers for several audio devices can mean hunting through hardware pages and guessing which package is stale. Outbyte Driver Updater can scan and identify driver issues; the free scan shows what it finds, while driver installation is handled by the full version, and it does not replace the need to reinstall Bandstand when its plug-in is missing.
Do not use regsvr32 for this VST plug-in
regsvr32 is intended for self-registering COM and OLE DLLs, including certain ActiveX controls. A VST plug-in is normally discovered when the host scans its folder.

This is not a general repair for Bandstand and may produce errors such as DllRegisterServer was not found. It can also expose a dependency problem without fixing the VST search path.
Microsoft explains the scope of Regsvr32 and its dependency-related errors. For this file, repair the product and rescan the VST folder instead.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone.Do not copy the file into System32 or SysWOW64
bandstandvst.dll should not be placed in:
C:WindowsSystem32
C:WindowsSysWOW64
Those folders contain Windows components and shared system libraries. They are not general plug-in folders. Copying a 32-bit VST into either directory does not make it visible to a DAW, change its architecture, repair dependencies, or register it as a VST.
What’s actually slowing this PC down?
Pick the symptom - the matching free tool is one click away.
Downloading a replacement from a random DLL website is also risky. The file may contain malware, may be the wrong version or architecture, and may not include the other files Bandstand requires. It often hides the real problem, such as a stale VST path, quarantine event, or unavailable legacy activation.
Use the original licensed Bandstand installer or media. If it is unavailable, preserve any working authorized installation and contact Native Instruments support rather than using an arbitrary DLL copy.
What “not designed to run on Windows” can mean
If Windows reports that the file is “not designed to run on Windows,” possible causes include:
- A damaged or incomplete binary
- A 32-bit and 64-bit mismatch
- A missing dependency
- A file that is not actually the Bandstand plug-in
- An untrusted replacement file
- Corruption in the installation
First confirm the file path and description. Then reinstall the complete Bandstand product from legitimate media and test it in a host with compatible architecture. Do not try to solve this message by copying the file to System32 or registering it with regsvr32.
When to use System Restore or malware scanning
Use System Restore only when:
- Bandstand worked recently
- The file disappeared after a specific system change
- A restore point predates that change
- You understand which applications and drivers may be rolled back
System Restore is not a substitute for the original Bandstand installer and may not restore an old product’s activation.
Run a full Windows Security scan when:
- The file appeared in an unexpected folder
- An antivirus product detected a suspicious replacement
- Several unrelated files disappeared
- You downloaded the DLL from an unofficial source
If the scan finds a threat, follow the security product’s removal instructions and reinstall Bandstand from trusted original media.

FAQ
Is bandstandvst.dll a Windows file?
No. It belongs to Native Instruments Bandstand, an old third-party virtual General MIDI instrument.
Which programs use it?
Compatible VST hosts can load it, including DAWs, MIDI applications, and programs that support Bandstand integration. The host must scan the folder where the plug-in is installed.
Recommended Free Tools
Where should bandstandvst.dll normally be located?
It is commonly found in a Bandstand VST folder resembling:
C:Program FilesNative InstrumentsBandstandVSTPlugins
The installer could use a custom location, so the actual path may differ.
Is the file 32-bit or 64-bit?
Public file metadata identifies it as 32-bit. This is not an authoritative Native Instruments binary specification. A 64-bit host may require compatible bridging or may reject the plug-in.
Should I install Visual C++ Redistributable?
Only when the complete loader error identifies a missing Microsoft runtime such as MSVCP*.dll or VCRUNTIME*.dll. It is not the default fix for a missing Bandstand VST.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems2Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches3Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsWill Windows Update restore the file?
No. Windows Update is not expected to supply this Native Instruments plug-in.
Will SFC restore bandstandvst.dll?
Normally no. SFC repairs protected Windows files, not third-party Native Instruments files.
Why does one DAW report the error while another does not?
The affected DAW may be scanning a different VST folder, using a stale plug-in cache, blocking the plug-in, or lacking support for the file’s architecture.
Can I register the file with regsvr32?
No. VST plug-ins are normally discovered through host folder scanning, not Windows DLL registration.
Free tools Windows power users keep installed
One-click scans. No signup required.
Can Bandstand still be activated?
Native Instruments lists Bandstand as discontinued and unavailable for activation through current Native Access workflows. An existing activated installation may continue to work, but reinstallation or reactivation may not be possible.
What is the safest final solution?
Restore or reinstall Bandstand from legitimate original media, configure the correct VST search path, and use a compatible host. If the original installer and activation method are gone, preserve any working authorized system and seek support rather than downloading a replacement DLL.
