as2000.dll is not established as a Windows system file. The safest fix is to identify the application requesting it and repair or reinstall that legacy program from its original installer.
File databases associate as2000.dll with Ms Windows 2000 Function Interface, described as “Public Release Version” and attributed to Asseloos Software. Those records are not an official vendor installer, signed Microsoft component, or verified product support page. No evidence shows that this DLL ships with Windows 10 or Windows 11.

Follow the fixes below in order. Stop when the application starts normally.
1. Identify the program requesting as2000.dll
Time needed: 5 to 15 minutes
The DLL name alone does not identify the legitimate owner. First determine whether the error appears when you launch a named program, during Windows startup, or after opening an old document.
What’s actually slowing this PC down?
Pick the symptom - the matching free tool is one click away.

Write down:
- The exact error message
- The name of the program or game shown in the message
- The executable path, if displayed
- Whether the problem began after an uninstall, update, antivirus alert, cleanup, migration, or restore
- Any other missing file named in the error
If the application is named, open Settings > Apps > Installed apps and search for it. On Windows 10, open Settings > Apps > Apps & features instead.
If no application is named:
- Press Ctrl + Shift + Esc to open Task Manager.
- Select Startup apps.
- Disable only an entry you recognize as related to the error. Do not delete unknown entries yet.
- Open Task Scheduler by pressing Windows + R, typing
taskschd.msc, and pressing Enter. - Check Task Scheduler Library for tasks that launch an old program.
- Look in
C:Program Files,C:Program Files (x86), and any old application folder for the executable that may be failing.
A startup message from an unknown executable deserves extra caution. It may indicate an abandoned program, an incomplete uninstall, or suspicious software rather than a missing file that should be restored.
2. Repair the parent application
Time needed: 10 to 20 minutes
Repairing the application is the most likely solution because the original installer can restore the correct DLL, dependencies, registry entries, and application-local files together.
Use Windows repair
- Open Start > Settings > Apps > Installed apps.
- Find the program that produces the error.
- Select the three-dot menu beside it.
- Choose Advanced options, if available.
- Select Repair.
- Launch the program again.
Some desktop applications show Modify, Repair, or Change instead. Follow the repair wizard and restart Windows if it requests one.
On Windows 10:
- Open Start > Settings > Apps > Apps & features.
- Select the affected program.
- Choose Advanced options or Modify.
- Select Repair when offered.
If the repair option is missing, open Control Panel > Programs > Programs and Features, right-click the application, and choose Repair or Change.
Use the application’s own repair feature
Games and older utilities may call this feature Verify files, Scan and repair, Repair installation, or Check installation. Open the program’s launcher, select the affected title, open its settings or menu, and run the repair operation.
Restart the computer and launch the program again. If the error disappears, the application has restored its own copy of as2000.dll.
3. Reinstall from the original source
Time needed: 15 to 45 minutes
If repair fails, reinstall the complete application rather than replacing only the DLL.

- Open Settings > Apps > Installed apps.
- Select the affected application and choose Uninstall.
- Restart Windows.
- Reinstall using the original vendor installer, installation disc, trusted organizational software library, or a backup known to belong to that application.
- Launch the program from its normal shortcut.
If the program is old, install it into its original folder or use the location selected by its installer. Do not copy as2000.dll into C:WindowsSystem32 or C:WindowsSysWOW64 unless the application’s verified installer specifically does so.
Windows normally searches an unpackaged application’s own directory before system directories when loading application DLLs. That is why the correct application folder matters. Microsoft explains the search behavior in its documentation on DLL search order.
If the installer itself fails, Microsoft provides steps for fixing problems that block programs from being installed or removed.
4. Check Windows Security quarantine
Time needed: 5 to 10 minutes
Antivirus software may have removed the DLL because it was damaged, modified, bundled with an unwanted application, or detected as suspicious.
- Open Start > Windows Security.
- Select Virus & threat protection.
- Select Protection history.
- Review detections related to the affected application or
as2000.dll. - Note the detection name and file path.
Do not select Allow on device automatically. A DLL downloaded from an unknown site should not be restored simply because an application requests it.
The safest sequence is to reinstall the application from its original source and scan the installer. Restore a quarantined file only when you know it came from a trusted original installer or backup and the detection has been independently assessed. Microsoft documents this area in its guide to Protection History.
If the file is in an unexpected folder, the application is unknown, or Windows Security reports malware, leave it quarantined. Run Windows Security > Virus & threat protection > Scan options > Full scan. If compromise is suspected, use Microsoft Defender Offline scan from the same menu.
Microsoft’s virus and threat protection guidance explains the available scans.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute2Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems3Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches5. Confirm the file location and architecture
Time needed: 10 to 20 minutes
Public file records most consistently describe as2000.dll as a 32-bit application DLL, but those records conflict and are not authoritative. The original installer or file properties must decide which build is correct.
If a copy already exists:
- Right-click the application shortcut.
- Select Open file location.
- Look for
as2000.dllin that application directory. - Right-click the file and select Properties.
- Check the Details and Digital Signatures tabs.
- Compare its location with the executable that is requesting it.
A copy beside the correct application executable is more plausible than one found in a Windows system folder. However, a familiar location does not prove that the file is safe or compatible.
Do not replace a 32-bit DLL with a 64-bit DLL, or the reverse. A 64-bit version of Windows can run many 32-bit applications, but the application still needs the architecture expected by its executable and dependencies.
If the program is old:
- Right-click its shortcut.
- Select Properties > Compatibility.
- Select Run this program in compatibility mode for.
- Try the Windows version recommended by the application’s documentation.
- Select Apply, then OK.
- Test the application.
Use Run this program as an administrator only when the application requires it and you trust the program. Administrator access does not repair a missing DLL.
6. Check for another missing dependency
Time needed: 10 to 30 minutes
Sometimes as2000.dll is present, but Windows cannot load it because another dependency is absent, damaged, or incompatible. Read the complete error carefully. The real missing module may be named after as2000.dll.
Do not install a Visual C++ Redistributable package just because a DLL error appears. Microsoft’s supported packages include vc_redist.x86.exe, vc_redist.x64.exe, and vc_redist.arm64.exe; install one only when the application documentation or a reliable diagnostic identifies that runtime. The latest supported Visual C++ Redistributable downloads are maintained by Microsoft.

If the application documentation identifies a required runtime:
- Download the matching package from Microsoft.
- Close the affected application.
- Install the runtime.
- Restart Windows.
- Test the application again.
Multiple Visual C++ runtime versions can coexist. Do not remove existing versions as a troubleshooting shortcut.
Quick wins for a faster PC:
Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteDriver Scan →Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsFix Now →Do not use regsvr32 as a generic fix
regsvr32 registers COM and ActiveX DLLs that provide the required registration entry points. The available information does not establish that as2000.dll is a self-registering COM server.
Do not run:
regsvr32 as2000.dll
as a routine repair. It will not recreate a missing file, repair a damaged installation, or supply missing dependencies. Use it only if the application’s verified documentation explicitly identifies the DLL as a COM component and gives the correct registration procedure.
7. Repair Windows components
Time needed: 15 to 40 minutes
This is a secondary fix. as2000.dll is not established as a Microsoft Windows component, so DISM and System File Checker are unlikely to recreate this application DLL. They can still repair Windows servicing or system-file corruption that prevents an older application from running.
- Open Start.
- Type
Command Prompt. - Right-click Command Prompt.
- Select Run as administrator.
- Run:
DISM.exe /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth
- Wait for it to finish.
- Run:
sfc /scannow
- Restart Windows.
- Test the application.
Microsoft documents running DISM before SFC in its Windows Update troubleshooting guidance.

One-click scans. No signup required.
If you regularly repeat SFC and DISM without knowing what changed, Outbyte PC Repair can show what its free scan identifies; repairs are performed by the full version, and it is not required when reinstalling the specific legacy application is the definitive fix.
Do not treat a successful SFC result as proof that as2000.dll is valid. SFC checks protected Windows files, not every third-party application DLL.
8. Update or reinstall related drivers only when indicated
Time needed: 10 to 30 minutes
A driver is not the normal cause of an obscure application DLL being missing. Consider this step only when the error began after a hardware change, the application depends on a specific device, or Device Manager reports a problem.
- Press Windows + X.
- Select Device Manager.
- Expand the category related to the application, such as Display adapters, Sound, video and game controllers, or Imaging devices.
- Right-click the affected device.
- Select Properties.
- Check the General tab for an error message.
- Open the Driver tab and select Update Driver.
- Choose Search automatically for drivers.
- Restart Windows if prompted.
If the problem began immediately after a driver update, open the same Driver tab and select Roll Back Driver, when available. Use the hardware manufacturer’s official driver package when Windows cannot find a suitable driver.
Crashes, No Sound, or Screen Glitches?
Random freezes, missing sound and display glitches usually trace back to one bad driver. Find and replace yours safely.Free scan · under a minuteWindows Errors? Fix Them Before They Spread

It is optional, and reinstalling the parent application remains the definitive fix for an application-owned as2000.dll.
Do not enable random Windows Features to resolve this error. .NET Framework, DirectPlay, and other optional components should be enabled only when the application’s documentation or a separate error specifically requires them.
9. Use System Restore if the timing is clear
Time needed: 20 to 45 minutes
System Restore is useful when the error began immediately after installing software, applying an update, or changing a driver.
- Press Windows + R.
- Type:
rstrui.exe
- Press Enter.
- Select Next.
- Choose a restore point from before the problem began.
- Select Scan for affected programs if available.
- Review the changes.
- Select Next > Finish.
System Restore normally changes system files, registry settings, and installed programs while leaving personal files unchanged. It can remove an application installed after the restore point, so review the affected-program list first. Microsoft explains the feature in its System Restore documentation.
10. Do not download an isolated DLL
Random DLL download pages cannot establish that their copy came from Asseloos Software or the original application installer. The file may contain malware, be the wrong architecture, have incompatible version information, or simply leave the missing dependency and registry problems untouched.
Avoid:
- Downloading
as2000.dllfrom a DLL index - Copying it into
System32 - Copying it into
SysWOW64 - Replacing a file in another application’s folder
- Whitelisting it without checking antivirus evidence
- Running
regsvr32without proof that it is a COM server
The safe sources are the original application installer, the application’s repair or verification function, a trusted installation disc, or a known-good backup. Windows repair tools are appropriate for Windows components, not as a source for this obscure third-party DLL.
Common causes and the matching fix
| Likely cause | Best response |
|---|---|
| Incomplete installation | Repair or reinstall the parent application |
| Antivirus quarantine | Review Protection History and reinstall from a trusted source |
| Moved or partially copied program | Restore the complete application directory |
| Missing dependency | Identify the additional module before installing a runtime |
| Architecture mismatch | Install the correct application build |
| Old application incompatibility | Try documented compatibility settings |
| Damaged Windows components | Run DISM, then SFC |
| Suspicious or unknown executable | Scan the system and do not restore the DLL |
FAQ
Is as2000.dll a Microsoft Windows file?
There is no evidence that Microsoft Windows ships as2000.dll. File databases associate it with “Ms Windows 2000 Function Interface” and Asseloos Software, but that attribution is not confirmed by an official vendor package or Microsoft record.
What program uses as2000.dll?
No specific surviving application, game, or installer has been reliably identified. Find the executable that displays the error before deciding whether the request is legitimate.
Recommended Free Tools
Should I copy as2000.dll to System32?
No. An application normally loads its private support DLL from its own installation directory. Copying an arbitrary DLL into a Windows directory can create version conflicts and DLL hijacking risk. Microsoft describes this security issue in its guidance on DLL security.
Is as2000.dll 32-bit or 64-bit?
Public records conflict, although the strongest repeated attribution describes a 32-bit application DLL. Verify the architecture from the original installer or application package instead of trusting a download listing.
Will installing Visual C++ Redistributable fix it?
Not necessarily. There is no evidence that as2000.dll is itself a Visual C++ runtime file. Install a Microsoft runtime only when another diagnostic identifies it as a dependency.
What if the program is no longer available?
Search your original discs, backups, archived installers, and organizational software records. If no trusted installer exists, contact the application publisher or its current owner. Do not substitute a random DLL download.
What information should I collect before asking for support?
Record the full error, executable path, Windows version, application version, location of any existing as2000.dll, antivirus detection name, and every additional missing module. This lets the application publisher determine which binary and dependencies are required.
Windows repaired successfully, but the error remains. Why?
DISM and SFC repair protected Windows components, not an obscure third-party application DLL. Reinstall the application that requests as2000.dll, then investigate dependencies and compatibility if the error continues.
