sisuinfo.dll errors usually come from an old SiS graphics utility, not from Windows itself. If Windows says sisuinfo.dll is missing, was not found, or could not be loaded, identify the program requesting it before replacing anything.

Start with this diagnostic checklist

Before changing files, answer these questions:

  1. Which program or executable displays the error? Check the title bar, message, shortcut target, or the folder named in the dialog.
  2. When does it happen? Does it appear during startup, after a driver change, when opening an old application, or when launching a game?
  3. Is the computer still using SiS graphics hardware? Check Settings > System > About for the model, then inspect Device Manager > Display adapters.
  4. Where is the missing file expected? An application or SiS utility folder is more meaningful than C:WindowsSystem32.
  5. Is Windows 64-bit while the old SiS package is 32-bit? Open Settings > System > About and check System type.
  6. Did antivirus software quarantine it? Check Windows Security > Virus & threat protection > Protection history.

Do not begin by downloading a replacement DLL. The correct fix is normally to repair the complete SiS VGA package or remove the leftover software that is still trying to start.

What is sisuinfo.dll?

sisuinfo.dll is a real, obsolete 32-bit Windows DLL published by Silicon Integrated Systems Corporation. Its description is “SiS Compatible Super VGA Information viewer”, and it was associated with SiS graphics utilities designed for Windows NT 4.0, Windows 2000, and Windows XP.

Archived SiS graphics packages placed it beside other SiS VGA components, including files such as sisudisp.dll, sisvideo.dll, sisumgr.dll, and sisufile.dll. That means it is normally part of a driver, control-panel, or information utility package rather than a standalone runtime.

#1 Best Overall
Pine PT 5968 8MB Graphics Card - SIS 6326
  • Pine PT 5968 Graphics Card
  • P/N: SIS 6326
  • Model: 5968
  • Capacity: 8MB
  • Connector Type: 15 pin HD D-Sub (HD-15), Interface: VGA

It is not:

  • A native Windows system component
  • A Visual C++ Redistributable file
  • A DirectX file
  • A .NET Framework file
  • A universal DLL shared by modern games

The same filename appeared in multiple archived SiS packages, and those packages did not necessarily contain identical builds. File sizes and archive metadata vary. Do not treat a version number or file size found in a DLL catalog as the correct file for every computer.

Fix 1: Reinstall the complete SiS graphics package

This is the most likely solution if the computer still uses SiS graphics or the error appeared after a driver update, uninstall, cleanup, or hardware change.

A complete package is important because sisuinfo.dll may depend on companion files, resources, registry settings, or a specific directory structure. Installing only the DLL can leave the underlying package broken.

Find the correct package

Use this order:

  1. Identify the exact computer, motherboard, or graphics adapter model.
  2. Visit the computer manufacturer’s support page, if the computer was built by an OEM.
  3. For a custom-built computer, check the motherboard manufacturer’s support page.
  4. For a separate graphics adapter, check the adapter manufacturer’s support page.
  5. If available, use the original driver CD or recovery media.
  6. Prefer a package explicitly intended for the identified model over a generic SiS package.

The current SiS website documents the company but does not provide an obvious public download for every legacy VGA package. Do not guess at a package based only on the filename.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Install it

  1. Download the matching driver package from the OEM or hardware manufacturer.
  2. If it is a ZIP file, right-click it and select Extract All.
  3. Open the extracted folder.
  4. Look for Setup.exe, Install.exe, or a similarly named installer.
  5. Right-click the installer and select Run as administrator.
  6. Follow the setup wizard.
  7. Restart Windows, even if the installer does not require it.
  8. Repeat the action that originally produced the error.

A successful repair means the requesting program starts without the message and the SiS utility, if still present, opens normally. In Device Manager > Display adapters, the relevant hardware should also appear without a warning icon.

If setup refuses to run on Windows 10 or Windows 11, right-click the installer, choose Properties > Compatibility, select an older Windows compatibility mode, and try Run this program as an administrator. Compatibility mode may help an installer launch, but it does not guarantee that the old driver will work correctly on modern Windows.

Use Windows Update for available driver updates

Windows may offer a compatible display driver:

  1. Open Settings.
  2. Select Windows Update.
  3. Choose Advanced options.
  4. Select Optional updates.
  5. Expand Driver updates.
  6. Install a matching display-driver update if one is listed.
  7. Restart the computer.

Windows Update may not provide a legacy SiS package or its information utility. If no suitable driver appears, use the OEM or motherboard support page instead.

When manually comparing old driver packages and hardware models, it is easy to install a package for the wrong SiS chipset or spend time checking each driver individually. Outbyte Driver Updater can scan for outdated drivers and show what it finds; the full version performs the driver installation. It is optional, and the model-specific OEM package remains the definitive choice for this SiS component.

Fix 2: Remove an obsolete SiS startup item

If the computer no longer has SiS graphics, reinstalling the old package is usually the wrong solution. The error may be caused by a leftover startup entry from a previous graphics driver or motherboard installation.

Uninstall the parent program

  1. Open Settings.
  2. Select Apps.
  3. Choose Installed apps.
  4. Search for entries containing SiS, VGA, Super VGA, or the name of the old graphics utility.
  5. Select the entry’s three-dot menu.
  6. Choose Uninstall.
  7. Restart Windows.

On older Windows interfaces:

  1. Open Control Panel.
  2. Select Programs > Programs and Features.
  3. Select the confirmed SiS utility.
  4. Click Uninstall.
  5. Restart the computer.

Do not remove a display driver merely because its name contains a graphics vendor name. First confirm whether the hardware is still in use under Device Manager > Display adapters.

Identify a startup entry that remains

If no uninstall entry exists:

  1. Press Ctrl + Shift + Esc to open Task Manager.
  2. Select the Startup apps tab.
  3. Look for a confirmed SiS utility or an entry whose Startup impact and Command line point to an old SiS directory.
  4. Right-click it and choose Disable.
  5. Restart Windows.

You can also inspect Settings > Apps > Startup and turn off the confirmed orphaned entry.

Only disable or remove an entry after checking its executable path. Do not delete random registry values or files just because their names look unfamiliar. If the error disappears after disabling the confirmed SiS startup item, the missing DLL was being requested by obsolete software rather than by Windows.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Fix 3: Restore a legitimate quarantine

Legacy graphics utilities may be unsigned, old, or poorly recognized by current security software. Antivirus quarantine is a possible cause if the error began after a security scan.

  1. Open Windows Security.
  2. Select Virus & threat protection.
  3. Click Protection history.
  4. Review recent detections.
  5. Open a detection only if its path identifies the legitimate OEM SiS package or its installed utility directory.
  6. Do not restore it automatically.
  7. If the package came from trusted OEM media, scan the installer and extracted files first.
  8. Restore the item only when you can verify its source.
  9. Reinstall the complete package rather than copying the restored DLL manually.

If the file came from an unknown download, leave it quarantined and remove the associated program. A missing DLL message does not prove that the quarantined file was safe.

Fix 4: Check whether the error names a dependency

The message “The specified module could not be found” does not always mean that sisuinfo.dll itself is absent. Windows may have found the DLL but failed to load one of its dependencies.

Windows searches locations according to its DLL search rules, beginning principally with the application directory and then using system locations. The application directory named in the error therefore matters. Microsoft documents this behavior in its DLL search order guidance.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Check the following:

  1. Locate the application or SiS utility folder named by the error.
  2. Confirm whether sisuinfo.dll is present there.
  3. If it is present, do not replace it immediately.
  4. Reinstall the complete parent application or SiS package.
  5. Check whether companion SiS files were removed.
  6. Review the application’s installer log or Windows Event Viewer for a more specific module name.

If a modern application is requesting the file from its own folder, first verify that the error really belongs to that application. There is no reliable evidence that a particular modern game generally requires sisuinfo.dll. A game launcher’s built-in Verify, Repair, or Scan function is relevant only when the error points inside that game’s installation directory.

Fix 5: Handle the 32-bit and 64-bit difference correctly

Public metadata identifies sisuinfo.dll as a 32-bit Win32 DLL. That is compatible with many 32-bit applications running on 64-bit Windows, but it does not mean the file should be copied into every Windows directory.

On 64-bit Windows:

  • System32 contains native 64-bit system binaries.
  • SysWOW64 contains 32-bit system binaries.
  • Neither folder is automatically the correct location for a third-party SiS DLL.

The correct destination is normally the SiS utility’s own installation directory, and the installer should place it there. Microsoft describes the distinction in its file-system redirection documentation.

Do not copy sisuinfo.dll into both C:WindowsSystem32 and C:WindowsSysWOW64. That can hide the real installation problem, create DLL-search-order confusion, and still fail if the file needs missing companion libraries or resources.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

If the old installer cannot run on 64-bit Windows, determine whether the current computer still needs the SiS utility. If it does not, remove the orphaned startup entry instead of forcing an obsolete package into the system.

Fix 6: Repair Windows components when Windows is also damaged

SFC and DISM repair Windows components. They do not normally restore sisuinfo.dll, because this is a third-party SiS file rather than a protected Windows component. Use these commands when Windows has additional corruption, system tools are failing, or other protected files are damaged.

Run DISM first

  1. Open Start.
  2. Type cmd.
  3. Right-click Command Prompt.
  4. Select Run as administrator.
  5. Approve the User Account Control prompt.
  6. Enter:
DISM.exe /Online /Cleanup-image /Restorehealth
  1. Wait for the command to finish.
  2. Leave the window open even if progress pauses.
  3. Restart Windows.

Run System File Checker

After restarting:

  1. Open an elevated Command Prompt again.
  2. Enter:
sfc /scannow
  1. Wait until verification reaches 100 percent.
  2. Restart Windows.
  3. Test the affected program again.

Microsoft’s System File Checker guidance recommends this DISM-then-SFC order.

If both commands report that they repaired files but the same SiS error remains, that result is expected when the missing component belongs to an old third-party package. Return to the OEM driver repair or orphaned-startup steps.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Repeatedly running SFC and DISM without knowing which component changed makes the result difficult to interpret. Outbyte PC Repair can scan and show Windows problems before its full version performs repairs; it is optional, and it does not replace reinstalling the SiS application that owns this DLL.

Fix 7: Use System Restore after a recent change

System Restore can help if the error began immediately after a driver installation, cleanup, software removal, or hardware replacement.

  1. Press Windows key + R.
  2. Type:
rstrui.exe
  1. Press Enter.
  2. Select Next.
  3. Choose a restore point dated before the error began.
  4. Select Scan for affected programs if available.
  5. Review the software and drivers that may be changed.
  6. Select Next, then Finish.
  7. Allow Windows to restart.

System Restore does not replace personal documents, but it can roll back drivers and installed applications. Microsoft provides further details in its System Restore guidance.

If no suitable restore point exists, reinstall the correct parent package or remove the obsolete startup item.

Why Visual C++, DirectX, and Windows Features usually do not help

The .dll extension only means that the file is a dynamic-link library. It does not identify which runtime owns it.

Visual C++ Redistributable

Do not install a Visual C++ Redistributable package solely because sisuinfo.dll is missing. Microsoft’s redistributables supply Microsoft runtime libraries, not the SiS information viewer. They are relevant only if the error separately names a missing Microsoft runtime file.

DirectX

Do not install DirectX solely to obtain sisuinfo.dll. The legacy DirectX package supplies libraries such as D3DX, XAudio, and XInput. It does not provide this SiS utility DLL.

Windows optional features

Enabling .NET Framework, legacy components, or other Windows Features will not normally install sisuinfo.dll. Open Settings > System > Optional features only when the application’s own documentation specifically requires a Windows feature.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Why regsvr32 is usually irrelevant

regsvr32 is not a general-purpose DLL repair command. It registers DLLs that expose registration entry points such as DllRegisterServer, typically for COM or ActiveX components.

There is no reliable evidence that sisuinfo.dll is a self-registering COM or ActiveX library. Running commands such as these will usually not repair the SiS package:

regsvr32 sisuinfo.dll
regsvr32 C:WindowsSysWOW64sisuinfo.dll

Use regsvr32 only if the legitimate SiS installer explicitly instructs you to do so. Microsoft explains common registration errors in its regsvr32 documentation.

Avoid random DLL download sites

Downloading a lone sisuinfo.dll from an arbitrary DLL site is risky and often ineffective. You may receive:

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.
  • Malware or a tampered file
  • A build for different SiS hardware
  • A file with the wrong architecture
  • An incompatible version
  • A DLL missing its required companion files
  • A file that Windows blocks or antivirus quarantines

It can also create a DLL-search-order problem if placed in a system folder. The safe sources are the original computer or motherboard manufacturer, the graphics adapter manufacturer, trusted original installation media, and Windows Update when it offers a matching driver.

If the computer no longer uses SiS hardware, the safe fix is removal of the obsolete utility, not replacement of its DLL.

If the error still appears at every boot

A boot-time message usually indicates a startup entry or scheduled component is still launching.

  1. Record the exact title-bar text and executable name.
  2. Note the folder path shown in the message.
  3. Open Task Manager > Startup apps.
  4. Disable only the confirmed SiS or obsolete entry.
  5. Check Settings > Apps > Installed apps for its parent utility.
  6. Uninstall that utility if it is no longer needed.
  7. Restart Windows.
  8. If the message remains, inspect Event Viewer by right-clicking Start and selecting Event Viewer, then review Windows Logs > Application around the startup time.
  9. Search the recorded executable path rather than searching for random copies of the DLL.

If no SiS hardware remains, continuing to reinstall the old package only preserves the obsolete startup dependency.

FAQ

Is sisuinfo.dll a Windows system file?

No. It is associated with Silicon Integrated Systems SiS VGA utilities and is not a protected Windows component.

Is sisuinfo.dll safe?

The legitimate file is an old SiS utility component, but a filename alone does not prove that a copy is genuine. Verify its location and source. A copy from an OEM package is more trustworthy than a file downloaded separately.

Is sisuinfo.dll 32-bit or 64-bit?

Public metadata identifies it as a 32-bit Win32 DLL. The exact package build can vary, so do not use that fact as a reason to copy it into System32 or SysWOW64.

Should I install Visual C++ or DirectX?

Not for this file alone. Neither package provides sisuinfo.dll.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Can I fix it with regsvr32?

Usually not. Repair the complete SiS package or remove the program requesting it.

What if the file is already present?

The message may refer to a missing dependency, an incompatible build, or an incorrect search path. Reinstall the parent SiS utility and inspect the executable path.

What if I no longer have SiS graphics?

Uninstall the old SiS utility and disable its confirmed startup entry. The error is probably an orphaned reference left after a hardware or driver replacement.

Will it work on Windows 11?

Compatibility is not guaranteed. The utility was designed for much older Windows releases, and modern behavior depends on the hardware, installer, dependencies, and driver-signing requirements. Use the OEM package only when the computer still needs it.
