If Windows says it is missing, was not found, or could not be loaded, repair or reinstall the Adobe application that needs it instead of downloading a replacement into System32.
What this file actually does
Adobe uses dvatransport.dll as part of its DVA-related application libraries. Public Adobe diagnostics have shown this file or its surrounding library family in Adobe Animate, Photoshop, Photoshop Elements, Premiere Pro, Media Encoder, and Character Animator installations.
That means the file is not exclusive to one Adobe product, and the correct copy depends on the application, architecture, and build installed on your computer. It normally belongs in the affected Adobe program directory or one of that program’s support-file directories, alongside other Adobe DLL files.
It should not normally be placed in:
C:WindowsSystem32C:WindowsSysWOW64- A random download folder
- A different Adobe application’s directory
- A game or unrelated program folder
Historical third-party catalog records list both 32-bit and 64-bit builds, including a 32-bit 7.0.0.0 entry. These records are not an authoritative Adobe release list, so do not choose a file simply because it has a newer-looking version number.

A crash that mentions dvatransport.dll does not automatically mean the file is missing or defective. Windows may identify the module where a failure occurred even when the real cause is a damaged installation, incompatible plugin, missing dependency, or corrupted preferences.
Match the symptom to the likely cause

The exact wording may vary. Common messages include:
- “The program can’t start because dvatransport.dll is missing from your computer.”
- “The code execution cannot proceed because dvatransport.dll was not found.”
- “There was a problem starting dvatransport.dll.”
- “Error loading dvatransport.dll.”
- “dvatransport.dll is either not designed to run on Windows or it contains an error.”
- “A required component is missing: dvatransport.dll.”
Fix 1: Update the affected Adobe application
A failed update can leave an application with files from different builds. Updating through Creative Cloud restores the files as a matched set.
- Open the Creative Cloud desktop application.
- Select Apps.
- Find the Adobe application named in the error.
- Select More actions, usually shown as three dots.
- Choose Check for updates.
- Install the available update.
- Restart Windows.
- Launch the Adobe application again.
If the Creative Cloud desktop application shows an Updates panel on its Home screen, you can also install the update there.

Fix 2: Repair or reinstall the affected Adobe application
This is the most reliable fix when the file disappeared after installation, an update, disk cleanup, an interrupted uninstall, or damage to the application directory.

- Open Creative Cloud.
- Select Apps.
- Locate the affected Adobe product.
- Select More actions.
- Choose Uninstall.
- If Creative Cloud offers a choice to keep preferences, keep them initially.
- Restart Windows when prompted.
- Open Creative Cloud again.
- Install the same Adobe product from the Apps list.
- Restart Windows once the installation finishes.
- Test the application before adding plugins or custom extensions.
If the application cannot be removed normally, use Adobe’s official Creative Cloud uninstaller. Choose Repair first if that option is available. If repair does not solve the error, run the uninstaller again, choose Uninstall, restart Windows, and reinstall Creative Cloud before reinstalling the affected Adobe application.
If every Adobe product fails, repair or reinstall Creative Cloud itself rather than repeatedly replacing individual DLLs. Persistent installation records or leftover files may require Adobe’s Cleaner Tool, followed by a restart and a fresh installation.
The fix worked if the affected application opens without the DLL message and can create or open a normal document. If the same message returns immediately after reinstalling, continue with the quarantine and architecture checks below.
Fix 3: Check whether antivirus software quarantined the file
Security software can remove a legitimate application file after an update or after a false positive. Do not restore a file blindly, however. A DLL with this name in the wrong directory may be malicious.
To check Microsoft Defender:
- Open Start.
- Search for Windows Security and open it.
- Select Virus & threat protection.
- Select Protection history.
- Review recent events involving Adobe or
dvatransport.dll. - Open the event details and note the original file path.
- Restore or allow the file only if the original path was inside the genuine Adobe installation and the file has a valid Adobe digital signature.
- Restart Windows.
- Launch the Adobe application.
Reinstalling the affected Adobe product is safer than restoring an isolated DLL. It recreates the complete, matching file set.
If the file came from Downloads, a temporary folder, a crack, an unofficial installer, or an unrelated game directory, do not whitelist it. Run a full Microsoft Defender scan and remove the suspicious copy.

Fix 4: Check the application path, architecture, and build
The filename alone is not enough to identify a compatible DLL. A 32-bit Adobe executable needs compatible 32-bit private libraries, while a 64-bit executable needs compatible 64-bit libraries. Windows will not reliably fix an architecture mismatch by searching another folder.
To inspect the file that Windows is trying to load:
- Right-click the Adobe shortcut.
- Select Properties.
- Open the Shortcut tab.
- Select Open File Location.
- Look in that application directory and its support folders for
dvatransport.dll. - Right-click any copy found.
- Select Properties and inspect the Digital Signatures tab.
- Confirm that the signer is Adobe and that Windows reports the signature as valid.
Do not copy a 32-bit file into a 64-bit application directory, or a 64-bit file into a 32-bit application directory. Do not use the version number from a catalog entry as proof that it is the correct file for your installation.
The safest way to match the architecture and build is to reinstall the affected application using its official Creative Cloud installer. If you use an older Adobe release, availability depends on the product and your account, so install only a version offered through Adobe’s own application management tools.
Fix 5: Test without recently added plugins
If the DLL exists and Adobe starts far enough to display a window before crashing, the issue may not be a missing file.
- Close all Adobe applications.
- Temporarily move recently installed third-party plugins out of the Adobe plugin folder.
- Restart Windows.
- Open the Adobe application.
- Add plugins back one at a time if the application now works.
Do not delete plugins permanently until you know which one causes the failure. If the problem affects only one Windows user account, create a temporary new Windows user profile and test Adobe there. A clean profile can separate damaged preferences from a broken application installation.

dvatransport.dll is normally a private Adobe file, not a protected Windows system file. Therefore, System File Checker usually will not restore it. Use Windows repair commands when you also have broader symptoms, such as failed Windows updates, damaged built-in applications, unexplained system errors, or installers that cannot run.

- Open Start.
- Type
Command Prompt. - Right-click Command Prompt.
- Select Run as administrator.
- Run this command:
DISM.exe /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth
- Wait for it to finish.
- Run:
sfc /scannow
- Wait until verification reaches 100 percent.
- Restart Windows.
- Reinstall the affected Adobe application if the DLL error remains.
DISM repairs the Windows component store. SFC checks protected Windows files. Neither command is a general replacement mechanism for Adobe’s private DLLs.

A display driver problem can cause Adobe applications to crash, but it does not normally explain a genuinely missing dvatransport.dll. Update drivers only when Adobe also shows graphics corruption, display-driver resets, or crashes in multiple graphics applications.
To update a driver through Windows:
- Right-click Start.
- Select Device Manager.
- Expand Display adapters.
- Right-click the graphics device.
- Select Update driver.
- Choose Search automatically for drivers.
- Restart Windows.
- Test Adobe again.
For a clean, product-specific driver, use the graphics manufacturer’s official installer. Do not remove unknown devices or install a driver merely because its date looks old.
When identifying which of many device drivers is stale is the difficult part, Outbyte Driver Updater can scan and show the available driver findings; the full version performs the driver installation. It is not a substitute for reinstalling Adobe when dvatransport.dll belongs to a damaged application.
Why regsvr32 is normally the wrong fix
Do not run this as a generic repair:
regsvr32 dvatransport.dll
regsvr32 is intended for DLLs that provide a COM self-registration entry point, such as DllRegisterServer. An application-private Adobe runtime DLL is not automatically a self-registering component.
Running the command may produce an entry-point error, or it may appear to complete without repairing the missing dependency, wrong architecture, or damaged Adobe installation. It does not download missing files, rebuild Adobe’s installation records, or make an incompatible DLL work.
Should you install Visual C++, DirectX, or .NET?
Not as the first response to this specific error. There is no reliable evidence that installing a Microsoft runtime alone fixes every dvatransport.dll problem.
If Adobe’s own installer reports a missing prerequisite, install the prerequisite from Microsoft or Adobe’s official installer and restart Windows. Otherwise, repair the affected Adobe application first. Installing multiple runtime packages at random can add confusion without restoring the correct Adobe files.
Should you use System Restore?
Use System Restore only when the problem began after a known software change and Windows has a suitable restore point.
- Open Start and search for Recovery.
- Open Recovery.
- Select Open System Restore.
- Choose a restore point from before the Adobe installation or update problem.
- Select Next, review the affected programs, and select Finish.
- Restart Windows and test Adobe.
System Restore can revert applications, settings, and updates. It does not guarantee that a damaged Adobe installation will be repaired, so reinstalling the affected product may still be necessary.

Is a file in a temporary or user-download folder safe?
Not necessarily. A matching filename does not prove authenticity. Check its path, digital signature, and antivirus history, and do not whitelist it merely because it is called dvatransport.dll.
