nlslexicons0007.dll Errors: Restore Windows Without DLL Downloads

nlslexicons0007.dll is a genuine Microsoft Windows component containing German natural-language data and code. If Windows or an application says it is missing, not found, or could not be loaded, repair Windows first rather than downloading a replacement DLL.

What nlslexicons0007.dll is

Microsoft identifies this file as Microsoft German Natural Language Server Data and Code, part of the Windows operating system and associated with natural-language and search components.

Windows file inventories place the normal copy under:

%windir%System32

Older 32-bit Windows records also show a copy under %windir%SysWOW64. The correct folder depends on Windows architecture and the component version. Do not copy a random file into both directories.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.
Historical record Architecture Approximate size
6.2.9200.16384 32-bit 11.48 MB
6.1.7600.16385 32-bit 11.48 MB
6.0.6001.18098 32-bit and 64-bit 11.67 MB

These are historical records, not current standalone downloads for Windows 10 or Windows 11. A filename alone also does not prove that a particular copy is safe. A malicious or damaged DLL can use the same name.

First, identify what is actually failing

Before repairing anything, note the exact message and when it appears.

  • If it appears during Windows startup or in several programs, treat it as a Windows component problem.
  • If it appears only when one application starts, repair that application after checking Windows.
  • If the message says “the specified module could not be found,” the named DLL may exist while one of its dependencies is missing.
  • If it says the file is “not designed to run on Windows,” suspect corruption, an incorrect architecture, a mismatched build, or tampering.

Check whether the standard file exists:

  1. Press Windows key + E.
  2. Enter %windir%System32 in the address bar.
  3. Search for nlslexicons0007.dll.
  4. Right-click the file, choose Properties, and open Digital Signatures.
  5. Confirm that the signer is Microsoft when a signature is present.

Do not restore a quarantined copy or copy a replacement merely because the filename matches.

Fix 1: Install Windows updates, then restart

A failed update or incomplete language-component change can leave Windows files inconsistent.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.
  1. Open Start > Settings.
  2. Select Windows Update.
  3. On Windows 10, open Update & Security > Windows Update.
  4. Select Check for updates.
  5. Install all available updates.
  6. Restart the computer, even if Windows does not insist on it.
  7. Test the program again.

If the error began immediately after an update, do not repeatedly reinstall the DLL. Continue with the component repair steps below. If the update itself will not install, use Settings > System > Troubleshoot > Other troubleshooters on Windows 11, or Settings > Update & Security > Troubleshoot on Windows 10.

Fix 2: Repair the Windows component store with DISM and SFC

This is the most important repair for a missing or damaged Windows-owned file. DISM repairs the component store that Windows uses as a source; System File Checker then replaces damaged protected files.

Run DISM

  1. Open Start.
  2. Type cmd.
  3. Right-click Command Prompt.
  4. Select Run as administrator.
  5. Approve the User Account Control prompt.
  6. Run:
DISM.exe /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth
  1. Wait until the operation completes. Do not close the window because progress may pause for a while.

A successful result normally says that the restore operation completed successfully. If DISM reports that source files could not be found, do not download the DLL from a third-party archive. Use matching Windows installation media or another Microsoft-provided repair source with the /Source option, as described in Microsoft’s Windows image repair documentation.

Run System File Checker

After DISM finishes, use the same administrator Command Prompt:

sfc /scannow

Wait for verification to reach 100 percent, then restart Windows and test the affected program.

SFC may report that it found and repaired corrupt files. It may also report that no integrity violations were found, which means the problem may belong to the application or a missing dependency rather than this file itself. If SFC cannot repair some files, restart and run DISM again before repeating SFC.

When you are manually repeating SFC and DISM without knowing what changed, Outbyte PC Repair can scan for system-file problems and show what needs attention; its repair is handled by the full version, and it is not required for this Microsoft repair path.

Microsoft’s supported sequence is covered in its System File Checker guidance.

Fix 3: Repair the application that reports the error

If only one program displays the message, the program may have an incorrect reference, a damaged installation, or a private dependency problem. That does not mean you should copy nlslexicons0007.dll beside its executable.

Try the application’s built-in repair route:

  1. Open Start > Settings > Apps.
  2. Select Installed apps on Windows 11, or Apps & features on Windows 10.
  3. Find the affected application.
  4. Select the three-dot menu on Windows 11, or select the application on Windows 10.
  5. Choose Advanced options if available.
  6. Select Repair.
  7. Restart the application.

For a game or launcher, use its Verify, Repair, or Verify integrity of files command. The wording differs by launcher, so use the launcher’s own installed-files repair rather than downloading a DLL manually.

If repair does not work:

  1. Back up the application’s settings and saved data if necessary.
  2. Uninstall the application from Settings > Apps.
  3. Restart Windows.
  4. Download the application again from its developer or official launcher.
  5. Install it using an administrator account.
  6. Test it before adding unofficial modifications.

Reinstalling the application fixes the problem only when that application supplied the bad reference or maintains its own damaged copy. A missing Windows copy still requires Windows servicing.

Fix 4: Check German language components

Because this file is associated with German natural-language support, inspect Windows language settings if German support was recently removed or changed.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.
  1. Open Start > Settings.
  2. Select Time & language.
  3. Choose Language & region.
  4. Look under Preferred languages for German.
  5. If German is missing and you need it, select Add a language.
  6. Search for German, select the required regional variant, and choose Next.
  7. Install the language components Windows offers.
  8. Restart and test again.

Microsoft documents language-pack servicing in its Windows language-pack guidance. Reinstalling German language support does not guarantee that it will restore this exact filename on every modern Windows installation, so use DISM and SFC for the actual system-file repair.

Fix 5: Check Windows Security quarantine

Security software may remove or quarantine a damaged, replaced, or falsely detected copy.

  1. Open Start > Settings.
  2. Select Privacy & security > Windows Security on Windows 11.
  3. Choose Virus & threat protection.
  4. Select Protection history.
  5. Look for an event involving nlslexicons0007.dll.
  6. Note the original path and detection details.
  7. Do not choose Allow on device solely because the filename looks familiar.

Only restore a quarantined file after its original Windows location, Microsoft signature, and system integrity have been verified. Run a full Microsoft Defender scan if the file was replaced or disappeared repeatedly. Microsoft explains the risks and actions in its Protection History documentation.

Fix 6: Check for disk corruption if the file keeps disappearing

If DISM and SFC repair the file but the error returns, the storage device or filesystem may be damaging files.

What’s actually slowing this PC down?

Pick the symptom - the matching free tool is one click away.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.
  1. Save open work.
  2. Open Command Prompt as administrator.
  3. Run:
chkdsk C: /scan
  1. Review the result for filesystem errors.
  2. If Windows reports storage problems, back up important files before attempting deeper repairs.

Repeated file corruption can also result from malware, a failing drive, or an interrupted servicing operation. Run a trusted, updated security scan and check the drive manufacturer’s health information where available.

Fix 7: Consider System Restore or Windows recovery

Use System Restore when the error started after a recent update, application installation, language change, or configuration change.

  1. Press Windows key + R.
  2. Type:
rstrui.exe
  1. Press Enter.
  2. Select a restore point from before the problem began.
  3. Review the affected programs.
  4. Select Finish and allow Windows to restart.

System Restore rolls back system files, settings, and installed programs, but it does not remove personal files. Microsoft’s System Restore instructions explain the process.

On supported Windows 11 installations, another option is Settings > System > Recovery > Fix problems using Windows Update > Reinstall now. This reinstalls the current Windows version while preserving apps, files, and settings. If that option is unavailable, use Microsoft’s Windows recovery options.

Drivers and Device Manager

nlslexicons0007.dll is not a device driver, so Device Manager is not the normal repair location. Do not update graphics, audio, chipset, or network drivers merely because this DLL is missing.

Use Device Manager only if the affected application also reports a separate hardware or driver error:

  1. Right-click Start.
  2. Select Device Manager.
  3. Expand the relevant category.
  4. Right-click the device.
  5. Choose Update driver.
  6. Select Search automatically for drivers.
  7. Restart if Windows installs an update.

If the problem involves hunting through many device-driver versions rather than this Windows component itself, Outbyte Driver Updater can scan for outdated drivers; its driver installation is performed by the full version, and it is not a substitute for repairing Windows with DISM and SFC.

What not to do

Do not download the DLL from a random website

Unofficial DLL archives can provide the wrong Windows build, wrong architecture, an altered file, or malware. They also leave the damaged component store untouched, so Windows may replace or reject the file later.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Use Windows Update, DISM, SFC, Microsoft installation media, or the official application installer instead.

Do not copy a 32-bit file into a 64-bit location

On 64-bit Windows, System32 conventionally contains 64-bit system files and SysWOW64 contains 32-bit system files. The names are confusing, but the files are not interchangeable. Installing both copies from an unofficial source can create additional loader errors.

Do not use regsvr32

regsvr32 is intended for DLLs that expose registration entry points such as DllRegisterServer. nlslexicons0007.dll is a natural-language data/code component, not a documented COM or ActiveX server. Registering it is generally irrelevant and may produce another error.

Do not disable antivirus permanently

If security software detected the file, investigate the event and verify provenance. Permanently disabling protection or allowing the file without checking its signature can turn a repair attempt into a security problem.

FAQ

Is nlslexicons0007.dll legitimate?

Yes. The filename corresponds to a Microsoft Windows component identified as Microsoft German Natural Language Server Data and Code. Verify the path and Microsoft signature because a legitimate name can be assigned to a replaced file.

Should I put it in System32?

No, not manually. A normal Windows copy belongs under the appropriate Windows component directory, usually %windir%System32, but DISM and SFC should restore it so that Windows uses the correct build and architecture.

Does this belong to .NET, DirectX, or Visual C++?

There is no verified Microsoft redistributable ownership for this filename. It is identified with Windows natural-language functionality, not a conventional Visual C++, DirectX, or .NET runtime.

Will reinstalling my game fix the error?

Only if the game is making the incorrect reference or has its own damaged installation. If Windows itself is missing the file, repair Windows instead.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Can I register it with regsvr32?

Generally no. It is not documented as a COM or ActiveX server, and registration is not the appropriate repair.

What should I tell support?

Provide the exact error text, Windows version and build, whether the file exists, its full path, the program that triggers the message, recent updates or installations, and any relevant Windows Security Protection History event.
