wfdsconmgr.dll is a genuine Microsoft Windows system component, not a Visual C++, DirectX, or game-specific runtime. If wfdsconmgr.dll is missing or cannot be loaded, repair Windows first, then repair the one application that reports the error.
What this file actually does
WFDSConMgr.dll is described as the Wi‑Fi Direct Services Connection Manager RPC client. It supports Windows’ Wi‑Fi Direct functionality, which allows compatible devices and applications to communicate through Wi‑Fi Direct services.
The file is normally part of Windows rather than something users install separately. On most systems, the expected location is:
%windir%System32WFDSConMgr.dll
On 64-bit Windows, Windows may also provide a 32-bit counterpart through:

The names are confusing: System32 contains 64-bit system files on 64-bit Windows, while SysWOW64 contains 32-bit system files. Do not copy a DLL between these folders to solve an architecture mismatch.
Microsoft documents the underlying feature in About the Wi‑Fi Direct feature and explains the folder behavior in File System Redirector.
Match the symptom to the likely cause
| Symptom | Most likely explanation | Start here |
|---|---|---|
| The error appears for several applications | Windows component corruption, a failed update, or security software quarantine | Windows Update, DISM, and SFC |
| Only one older application fails | The application has a damaged installation or reports a dependency failure poorly | Repair or reinstall that application |
| The problem began after an update | An incomplete update or feature-update transition | Finish updates, then use System Restore or Windows repair |
| The file exists but Windows says “module not found” | A dependency may be missing, not the named DLL itself | Check the path, logs, and Windows component health |
| “Not designed to run on Windows” appears | Wrong architecture, corruption, an inauthentic replacement, or a bad dependency | Remove copied DLLs, scan, then run DISM and SFC |
| Antivirus recently detected the file | The file may have been quarantined, or a same-named file may be malicious | Inspect Protection History and verify the signature |
“Cannot register” appears after regsvr32 |
The DLL is not intended for manual COM registration | Stop using regsvr32; repair Windows instead |
The exact wording varies. Common loader messages include “wfdsconmgr.dll was not found,” “The specified module could not be found,” “WFDSConMgr.dll cannot be loaded,” and “wfdsconmgr.dll is either not designed to run on Windows or it contains an error.”
Fix 1: Install Windows updates first
A pending update can contain the corrected Windows component or complete a servicing operation that was left unfinished.

- Open Start > Settings.
- Select Windows Update.
- Select Check for updates.
- Install everything offered.
- Restart, even if Windows does not insist on an immediate restart.
- Open the affected application again.
Windows 10
- Open Start > Settings.
- Select Update & Security.
- Select Windows Update.
- Select Check for updates.
- Install the available updates.
- Restart and test the application.
Microsoft’s current instructions are in Install Windows updates. Windows 10 support ended on October 14, 2025, so a supported Windows 11 installation may be the more appropriate long-term repair path if the computer is eligible.
If Windows Update itself fails, restart once and check again. If the DLL error began immediately after a failed update, continue with DISM and SFC rather than repeatedly downloading replacement files.
Fix 2: Repair Windows with DISM and SFC
DISM repairs the Windows component store. SFC then checks protected system files and replaces damaged copies from that repaired source.
- Open Start.
- Type
Command Prompt. - Right-click Command Prompt.
- Select Run as administrator.
- Approve the User Account Control prompt.
- Run this command:
DISM.exe /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth
- Wait for DISM to finish.
- Then run:
sfc /scannow
- Restart Windows.
- Test the program that reported
wfdsconmgr.dll.
Do not close the window while either scan is running. If SFC reports that it repaired corrupted files, restart and test again. If it reports that some files could not be repaired, run the commands once more after Windows Update, then move to the recovery steps below.

Microsoft’s complete procedure is Use the System File Checker tool to repair missing or corrupted system files.
When manually repeating DISM and SFC leaves you unsure what changed, Outbyte PC Repair can scan for the underlying Windows problems and show what needs attention; its free scan identifies issues, while repair is handled by the full version.
Fix 3: Check whether the file exists and is authentic
Do not assume that a file with the correct name is genuine. A malicious DLL can use the same filename outside the Windows directory.
Check the normal path
- Press Windows key + R.
- Enter:
%windir%System32
- Press Enter.
- Search for
WFDSConMgr.dll.
You can also use Command Prompt:
dir "%windir%System32WFDSConMgr.dll"
where wfdsconmgr.dll
The where command may show more than one result. Treat a copy in an arbitrary download folder or beside an unrelated executable with suspicion.
Check the digital signature
- Right-click the DLL.
- Select Properties.
- Open the Digital Signatures tab.
- Select the signature.
- Select Details.
- Confirm that Windows reports the signature as valid and that the signer is Microsoft.
The file’s version, size, and architecture can vary with the Windows release and servicing level. Do not use an old file listing as a universal replacement.
If the file is absent, unsigned, or located outside the Windows component folders, do not replace it with a random download. Run a full security scan, remove or quarantine an untrusted copy, and repair Windows with DISM and SFC.
Fix 4: Check Microsoft Defender quarantine
If Defender removed a genuine system file, review the detection before restoring anything.
- Open Start > Settings.
- Select Privacy & security > Windows Security on Windows 11, or Update & Security > Windows Security on Windows 10.
- Select Virus & threat protection.
- Select Protection history.
- Open the relevant detection.
- Check the complete file path and detection context.
- Restore or allow the file only if the path, digital signature, and origin are trustworthy.
Do not restore a file merely because its name is WFDSConMgr.dll. If the file was found in an application’s temporary folder, download folder, or an unexpected program directory, leave it quarantined and run a full scan. Microsoft explains this process in Protection History in the Windows Security app.
Recommended Free Tools
After handling the detection, run DISM and SFC again. If Defender repeatedly removes the genuine signed Windows copy, investigate the detection rather than disabling security protection permanently.

Fix 5: Repair or reinstall the affected application
A third-party program can display a Windows DLL error even when its own installation is damaged. This is especially likely when every other application works normally.
First check whether the program offers a repair option:
- Open Start > Settings > Apps > Installed apps on Windows 11, or Apps > Apps & features on Windows 10.
- Select the affected application.
- Open Advanced options, if available.
- Select Repair.
- Restart the application and test it.
For traditional desktop programs:
- Open Control Panel.
- Select Programs > Programs and Features.
- Select the affected program.
- Choose Repair or Change, if offered.
- Follow the installer prompts.
If repair does not work, uninstall the application, restart Windows, and reinstall it from the developer’s official installer or launcher. Do not place a downloaded wfdsconmgr.dll beside the program executable. The definitive fix for an application-specific installation failure is often rebuilding that application from its trusted installer.
If the error names VCRUNTIME140.dll, MSVCP140.dll, or ucrtbase.dll as well, investigate the official Visual C++ Redistributable downloads. That package is relevant to those runtime files, not normally to WFDSConMgr.dll.
Fix 6: Check drivers only when the timing fits
A Wi‑Fi driver or device change may expose a broader Windows problem, but WFDSConMgr.dll is not a generic driver file. Do not replace drivers solely because the filename mentions Wi‑Fi Direct.
Use Device Manager when the problem began after installing or updating a wireless device driver:
- Right-click Start.
- Select Device Manager.
- Expand Network adapters.
- Right-click the affected wireless adapter.
- Select Properties and review the General tab.
- Open the Driver tab.
- Use Roll Back Driver if the error began immediately after an update and the option is available.
- Otherwise select Update Driver > Search automatically for drivers.
- Restart Windows.
You can also install the driver supplied by the computer or adapter manufacturer. Avoid mixing unrelated driver packages or forcing a 32-bit driver onto a 64-bit installation.

There is no verified reason to manually register WFDSConMgr.dll. Running:
regsvr32 wfdsconmgr.dll
may produce an error saying that the entry point was not found, and /u should not be used as a speculative fix. Microsoft documents the command’s real purpose in regsvr32.
If the file exists but the error remains
“Specified module could not be found” can mean that a dependency required by the program is missing or incompatible. The named DLL may be present and healthy.
Check the following:
- Run:
where wfdsconmgr.dll
- Confirm that the Windows copy is under the expected system directory.
- Check the affected application’s own logs.
- Open Event Viewer by right-clicking Start and selecting Event Viewer.
- Review Windows Logs > Application around the time of the failure.
- Note the application name and any additional module named in the event.
- Repair the affected application if only one program fails.
Do not move the Windows DLL into the application folder. That can create DLL search-order problems and may cause an untrusted file to load first.
Recovery after failed updates or broader corruption
Use System Restore when the problem began after a driver installation, cleanup utility, update, or other identifiable system change.
- Search Windows for Create a restore point.
- Open System Properties.
- Select System Restore.
- Choose a restore point from before the error began.
- Select Scan for affected programs.
- Review the changes.
- Complete the wizard and restart.
System Restore normally rolls back system files and settings without removing personal files. Microsoft’s recovery guidance is in Recovery options in Windows.

Should you download wfdsconmgr.dll?
No. Random DLL download sites can provide malware, the wrong architecture, an outdated servicing level, or a file that passes no trustworthy signature check. Copying it into System32 or beside an application often leaves the real Windows corruption untouched and can create version conflicts.
Use Windows Update, DISM, SFC, System Restore, or a Microsoft repair installation. For a single affected program, use the application developer’s official installer or launcher.

Is wfdsconmgr.dll part of Windows 10 and Windows 11?
It is a Windows system component associated with Wi‑Fi Direct Services. Exact files, versions, and servicing details vary between Windows releases and updates.
Is it part of Visual C++?
No. WFDSConMgr.dll is not the normal Visual C++ runtime file. Install or repair Visual C++ only when the error names a Visual C++ DLL.
Does this file prove that Wi‑Fi Direct is broken?
No. The file supports Windows Wi‑Fi Direct functionality, but an application may report it because of a damaged dependency, failed update, or application installation problem.
Should I enable a Windows Feature?
Usually not. Open Settings > System > Optional features > View features on Windows 11, or Settings > Apps > Optional features on Windows 10, only when a separate error identifies a missing optional component. Enabling unrelated features will not normally restore this system DLL.
