kbdbash.dll is a genuine Microsoft Windows keyboard-layout component for Bashkir. If Windows reports that it is missing, corrupted, or cannot load, repair Windows and the related language feature instead of downloading a replacement DLL.
Start with this diagnostic checklist
Before changing anything, note:
- Which program shows the error: Windows itself, a text service, an installer, or one particular application.
- When it appears: during startup, after Windows Update, after adding a language, or only when launching one executable.
- Whether Bashkir is installed: check Settings > Time & language > Language & region.
- Your Windows architecture: open Settings > System > About and check System type.
- Where the file is located: a genuine copy belongs in a Windows system directory, not in Downloads, Temp, or an application folder.
Windows identifies Bashkir with keyboard identifier 0000046D. The kbd prefix indicates a keyboard-layout module, not a Visual C++ runtime, DirectX file, .NET assembly, or normal game dependency.
Fix 1: Restart, update Windows, and repair system files
This is the safest first repair when the file is missing from Windows or the problem began after an update, language installation, cleanup operation, or unexpected shutdown.
Install pending Windows updates
- Press Windows + I.
- Open Windows Update.
- Select Check for updates.
- Install all available updates.
- Restart Windows, even if it does not explicitly require a restart.
- Test the keyboard or repeat the action that produced the error.
If the error remains, repair the Windows component store and protected system files.

Run DISM and SFC
- Open Start.
- Type
Command Prompt. - Right-click Command Prompt and select Run as administrator.
- Approve the User Account Control prompt.
- Run this command:
DISM.exe /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth
- Wait for DISM to finish. Do not close the window if progress appears to pause.
- Run:
sfc /scannow
- Wait until verification reaches 100 percent.
- Restart Windows.
DISM repairs the Windows component store. SFC then checks protected system files and replaces damaged copies. If SFC reports that it repaired files, restart and test again. If it reports that it could not repair some files, run DISM once more, restart, and run SFC again.
If DISM cannot obtain repair files through Windows Update, Microsoft supports using a matching repair source:
DISM.exe /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth /Source:\serverc$windows /LimitAccess
The source must match the installed Windows version. Do not point DISM at a random Windows folder or an unrelated installation.
Repeating DISM and SFC by hand can make it difficult to see what changed. Outbyte PC Repair can scan for system-file problems and show what needs attention; its full version performs the repair, but it is optional and does not replace the supported Microsoft commands.

What success looks like
The repair worked if:
- The error no longer appears.
- Bashkir can be selected from the input switcher.
- Windows can add or remove the keyboard layout normally.
- SFC reports that it found no integrity violations, or that it successfully repaired corrupted files.
If the message says “The specified module could not be found”, do not assume kbdbash.dll itself is absent. That wording can also indicate a failed dependency or load context. Continue with the language-feature repair below.
Fix 2: Reinstall the Bashkir keyboard layout
A damaged or incomplete language feature can leave Windows trying to load a layout that is no longer installed correctly.
Windows 11
- Press Windows + I.
- Select Time & language.
- Open Language & region.
- Under Preferred languages, select Add a language if the relevant language is missing.
- Search for the language associated with Bashkir and install it.
- Select its three-dot menu.
- Choose Language options.
- Under Keyboards, select Add a keyboard.
- Choose Bashkir if it is available.
- Restart or sign out if Windows requests it.
A full display-language change is not always necessary for a keyboard layout. Windows may still require the matching language entry before Bashkir appears in the keyboard list.

Windows 10
- Press Windows + I.
- Select Time & Language.
- Open Language.
- Select Add a preferred language if the relevant language is absent.
- Choose the language and select Next.
- Install the required language features.
- Select the language under Preferred languages.
- Choose Options.
- Under Keyboards, select Add a keyboard.
- Add Bashkir, then restart Windows.
Afterward, press Windows + Space to check whether the layout appears. If you do not need Bashkir, remove its keyboard layout and associated language entry instead. Removing an unused layout is safer than keeping a stale configuration that repeatedly requests a missing component.

Fix 3: Check antivirus quarantine and verify the file
Security software may quarantine or delete a system component. It can also block a suspicious copy placed outside the normal Windows directories.
Check quarantine history
- Open Windows Security from the Start menu.
- Select Virus & threat protection.
- Open Protection history.
- Look for an event involving
kbdbash.dll. - Check the reported file path and detection details.
Restore a quarantined file only when it was located in the correct Windows system directory and is verified as Microsoft-signed. Do not restore a copy from Downloads, Temp, an application folder, or an unfamiliar writable directory. Update security definitions and run a full scan afterward.
Verify the signature in PowerShell
- Open Start.
- Type
PowerShell. - Right-click Windows PowerShell and choose Run as administrator.
- Run:
Get-AuthenticodeSignature "$env:windirSystem32kbdbash.dll"
A genuine system copy should show a valid Microsoft signature. Also inspect the file in File Explorer:
- Open
C:WindowsSystem32. - Locate
kbdbash.dll. - Right-click it and select Properties.
- Check the Digital Signatures tab and the file location.
On 64-bit Windows, a 32-bit copy may also exist under:

The two locations serve different Windows components. Do not replace one copy with the other merely because the filenames match. File size or an apparently similar version is not enough to establish compatibility.

Fix 4: Remove and add the layout again
If the file is present and signed but the error appears only for one Windows user profile, the problem may be a stale keyboard-layout configuration.
- Open Settings.
- Go to Time & language > Language & region.
- Open the affected language’s Language options.
- Under Keyboards, remove Bashkir.
- Restart Windows.
- Return to the same screen.
- Add Bashkir again.
- Sign out and sign back in.
If the problem continues, create a temporary local Windows user:
- Open Settings > Accounts > Other users.
- Select Add account.
- Create a test user.
- Sign in to that profile.
- Add or test the Bashkir keyboard.
If the error occurs only in the original profile, Windows system files may be healthy and the profile’s language configuration may be damaged. Move to the new profile only after confirming that the system file repair and malware checks are complete.

kbdbash.dll is a keyboard-layout component, not a device driver. Device Manager will not normally repair or register this DLL. However, if the physical keyboard, language switching, or other input devices also malfunction, update the relevant driver from the computer or device manufacturer.
- Right-click Start.
- Select Device Manager.
- Expand Keyboards and, if relevant, Human Interface Devices.
- Right-click the affected device.
- Select Update driver.
- Choose Search automatically for drivers.
- Restart Windows.
Do not uninstall random devices just because the DLL error names a keyboard layout. If Windows Update finds no driver, obtain the driver from the PC or keyboard manufacturer’s official support page. A driver update will not replace kbdbash.dll.
When several input drivers are stale, finding the correct package manually can mean checking device IDs and manufacturer downloads. Fix 6: Identify the program that displays the message
Windows components, text services, language features, and software that probes installed keyboard layouts can request this DLL. A program naming the file does not prove that the program shipped it.

If only one executable reports the error:
- Note the executable name and installation path.
- Update that program using its official updater.
- Repair it from Settings > Apps > Installed apps if a Repair option exists.
- Check whether the error disappears when Bashkir is removed.
- Reinstall the program only from its official installer if it still fails.
Do not copy kbdbash.dll into the program’s installation directory. That can create an architecture mismatch, bypass Windows servicing, or hide the real problem. There is no verified basis for treating this file as ordinary game middleware or a missing Visual C++ runtime.
Do not download or register the DLL manually
Avoid DLL download sites websites and ZIP files shared through forums or file mirrors. A downloaded copy can contain malware, belong to a different Windows build, use the wrong architecture, or fail because the actual problem is a dependency, language configuration, or damaged component store.
Do not run:
regsvr32 kbdbash.dll
regsvr32 is intended for DLLs that expose registration entry points such as DllRegisterServer. A keyboard-layout DLL is loaded by Windows input services and is not normally registered like an ActiveX or COM component. Running regsvr32 can produce another error without repairing the layout.
Use Windows Update, DISM, SFC, and the built-in language settings instead.

If the problem began immediately after a known update, driver installation, or system change:
- Open Start and search for Create a restore point.
- Open the result.
- Select System Restore.
- Choose a restore point from before the problem began.
- Review affected programs and complete the restore.
Back up important files first. If System Restore is unavailable or does not help, use a Windows repair install or recovery option. Keep the installation media and repair source matched to the installed Windows edition and build.

FAQ
Is kbdbash.dll safe?
A genuine copy should be Microsoft-signed and stored in a Windows system directory. A copy in Downloads, Temp, an application folder, or another writable location should be scanned and investigated.
Do I need Bashkir installed?
Only if you use the Bashkir keyboard layout. If you do not, remove the unused Bashkir layout or language entry. If Windows continues requesting the file afterward, run DISM and SFC and check for stale profile configuration.
Is there a separate Windows 10 or Windows 11 DLL?
Do not choose a file by operating-system label, size, or filename alone. Windows servicing level, edition, architecture, and installed language components determine the correct system file.
Can I copy the file from another PC?
Do not do this. The other computer may have a different Windows build or architecture, and manual copying bypasses Windows Resource Protection and servicing. Repair the local installation instead.
Why does a game or application mention kbdbash.dll?
The program may be probing installed keyboard layouts, or the message may identify a failed load context rather than a file the program owns. Check the executable, repair Windows, and reinstall the application only if the problem is isolated to that application.
What if SFC repairs the file but the error returns?
Check Windows Update history, antivirus quarantine, the language configuration, the file signature, and the component-store health. A recurring problem can indicate servicing corruption, a damaged profile, malware, or an unauthorized replacement.
