If bthradiomedia.dll is missing, not found, corrupt, or cannot be loaded, repair Windows and its Bluetooth components instead of downloading a replacement DLL.
The file is known as Bluetooth Radio Media Provider. A scanned Windows copy is normally found at C:WindowsSystem32BthRadioMedia.dll, and public metadata reports a Microsoft Windows product and Microsoft Corporation publisher with a Microsoft digital signature. The exact file version and architecture depend on the installed Windows build.
Before you start: do not download the DLL
Do not download bthradiomedia.dll from a random DLL repository and copy it into System32, SysWOW64, a game folder, or an application folder. That approach can introduce malware, use the wrong Windows build, select the wrong architecture, or create mismatched system components.
Windows Update, DISM, SFC, System Restore, and official Windows installation media are the safe sources for restoring this file. If a particular application is showing the message, repairing Windows is still the first step because this is an inbox Windows component.

Fix 1: Install Windows updates and restart
Time needed: 10–30 minutes, depending on pending updates.
A failed or incomplete update can leave a protected Windows component missing or mismatched.
Windows 11
- Open Start > Settings.
- Select Windows Update.
- Click Check for updates.
- Install every available update.
- Restart the computer, even if Windows does not immediately require it.
- Open the application that reported the DLL error.
Windows 10
- Open Start > Settings.
- Select Update & Security.
- Open Windows Update.
- Click Check for updates.
- Install the available updates.
- Restart Windows and test the affected application again.
If the error began immediately after an update, open Settings > Windows Update > Update history and note the recent update. Do not remove updates as a first step, but an update rollback or System Restore can be appropriate if the failure started directly afterward.
If Windows Update reports an error, continue with the repair commands below.
Fix 2: Repair Windows with DISM, then SFC
Time needed: 15–45 minutes.
This is the primary repair for a missing or corrupt BthRadioMedia.dll. Microsoft recommends running DISM before SFC because DISM repairs the Windows component source that SFC uses to restore protected files.
Run DISM
- Open Start.
- Type
Command Prompt. - Right-click Command Prompt and select Run as administrator.
- Approve the User Account Control prompt.
- Run:
DISM.exe /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth
- Wait for the operation to complete. Do not close the window if progress appears to pause.
- Restart Windows after DISM finishes.
Run System File Checker
Open an elevated Command Prompt again and run:
sfc /scannow
Wait until verification reaches 100 percent. Then restart Windows and test the application or Bluetooth function.
How to interpret the result
- Windows Resource Protection did not find any integrity violations: Windows did not find protected-file damage. Continue with the driver and dependency checks below.
- Windows Resource Protection found corrupt files and successfully repaired them: Restart and test the original program.
- Windows Resource Protection found corrupt files but was unable to fix some of them: Run DISM again, restart, and run SFC a second time.
- DISM cannot find source files: Use a matching Windows installation source with DISM’s
/Source:and/LimitAccessoptions. The source must match the installed Windows edition and build. Do not use an arbitrary ISO or a DLL downloaded separately.
Running these commands manually is useful, but it can be difficult to tell which repair changed the system when you are repeating scans. Outbyte PC Repair can scan for the underlying Windows problems and show what needs attention; its repair functions require the full version. It is optional, and Windows Update, DISM, and SFC remain the appropriate built-in repairs.
Fix 3: Check the file location and digital signature
Time needed: 5–10 minutes.
A filename alone does not prove that a file is genuine. Check the copy Windows is using.

- Open File Explorer.
- Browse to:
C:WindowsSystem32
- Look for
BthRadioMedia.dll. - Right-click the file and select Properties.
- Open the Digital Signatures tab.
- Select the signature and click Details.
A normal Windows copy should be in a Windows system directory and have a valid Microsoft signature. If the file is unsigned, located in a temporary folder, or stored beside an unfamiliar program, do not replace it manually. Run a full scan from Windows Security > Virus & threat protection > Scan options.
A copy in System32 may be 64-bit on 64-bit Windows. SysWOW64 contains 32-bit Windows components, despite the confusing folder name. Do not decide which copy to use based only on the folder name, file size, or a version listed on a third-party page.
Fix 4: Check Windows Security quarantine
Time needed: 5–20 minutes.
Antivirus software can quarantine a system file after a detection or false positive.
- Open Start and search for Windows Security.
- Select Virus & threat protection.
- Choose Protection history.
- Review recent actions for
BthRadioMedia.dll. - Expand an entry to see its path and detection details.
Restore a quarantined file only when the path and digital signature show that it is the genuine Microsoft Windows copy. Microsoft warns that restoring a quarantined file may cause Defender to detect it again. Do not create an exclusion merely to suppress an alert.
After reviewing the history, run a full security scan. If the file is repeatedly removed, investigate the detection rather than copying another DLL over it.
Fix 5: Update or reinstall the Bluetooth adapter
Time needed: 10–20 minutes.
A Bluetooth driver or stack problem can produce symptoms that look like a missing Windows DLL. Updating the adapter is more appropriate than copying BthRadioMedia.dll.
- Right-click Start.
- Select Device Manager.
- Expand Bluetooth.
- Right-click your Bluetooth adapter.
- Select Update driver.
- Choose Search automatically for drivers.
- Restart Windows and test Bluetooth and the affected application.
If that does not help:
- Return to Device Manager > Bluetooth.
- Right-click the adapter.
- Select Uninstall device.
- Confirm the uninstall.
- Restart Windows.
Windows may reinstall the adapter automatically. If it does not, obtain the driver from the computer or adapter manufacturer’s official support page, matching your Windows version and system architecture.

Time needed: 10–30 minutes.
BthRadioMedia.dll is a Windows component, but the error may appear when an application calls the Bluetooth stack. First determine whether the message appears only inside one program or across Windows.
- If Bluetooth settings, Device Manager, or several applications fail, continue repairing Windows.
- If only one older application fails while Bluetooth works elsewhere, update or repair that application from its official installer.
- If a game launcher offers Verify or Repair files, use it only for files packaged with that game. It does not replace Windows component repair.
- Do not place a downloaded copy of the DLL in the application’s installation folder.
An application-specific message may say:
The program can't start because BthRadioMedia.dll is missing from your computer.
It may also report that the file was not found, is corrupt, cannot be loaded, or that a procedure entry point could not be located. These are generic DLL error patterns, not proof that a particular game owns the file.
Fix 7: Use System Restore or a Windows repair reinstall
Time needed: 20 minutes to several hours.
Use these options when DISM and SFC cannot repair the component or the problem began after a major system change.
System Restore
- Press Windows + R.
- Type:
rstrui.exe
- Press Enter.
- Select a restore point from before the problem began.
- Select Next, review the affected drives, and choose Finish.
- Let Windows restart and complete the restore.
System Restore does not normally remove personal files, but it can roll back drivers, updates, and installed programs.
Windows 11 repair reinstall
On supported Windows 11 systems:
- Open Start > Settings.
- Select System > Recovery.
- Find Fix problems using Windows Update.
- Select Reinstall now.
- Follow the prompts and allow Windows to restart.
This option is designed to reinstall the current Windows version while preserving apps, files, and settings.
If the option is unavailable, use official Windows installation media for an in-place repair. Start setup from within Windows and choose Keep personal files and apps. Confirm that selection before proceeding.
Do not use regsvr32 as a general DLL fix
regsvr32 is for DLLs that expose registration entry points such as DllRegisterServer. A public sample of BthRadioMedia.dll exposes COM-related exports, so registration is technically possible in some Windows builds. That does not make manual registration the normal repair.

regsvr32 BthRadioMedia.dll
Use regsvr32 only when diagnostics specifically identify a COM registration problem and you have the correct file, path, and command architecture. DISM and SFC are the correct first repairs for a missing or damaged protected Windows file.
What the error usually means
| Symptom | Likely meaning | Best next step |
|---|---|---|
| File is absent from the Windows directory | Missing or quarantined protected component | Windows Update, DISM, SFC, and Protection history |
| File exists but Windows says it is corrupt | Damaged file or component store | DISM followed by SFC |
| Procedure entry point is missing | Mismatched Windows components or incompatible versions | Repair Windows; do not copy a newer DLL |
| “Specified module could not be found” | The DLL itself or one of its dependencies may be missing | Repair Windows and inspect the broader error |
| Bluetooth stopped working after a driver change | Bluetooth adapter or stack problem | Update or reinstall the adapter |
| Error returns after repair | Disk, malware, update, or broader installation damage | Check disk health, security history, logs, and consider repair reinstall |
Windows version and architecture notes
Windows 8, Windows 8.1, Windows 10, and Windows 11 can contain different builds of this component. A version associated with Windows 8-era files should not be copied onto a newer or older installation simply because the filename matches.
On 64-bit Windows, a 32-bit application may use a 32-bit Windows component while a 64-bit application uses a 64-bit component. The correct architecture is determined by the application and Windows build, not by a download page or file size. Public inventories also disagree about some historical architecture and version details.
There is no evidence that installing Visual C++ Redistributables, DirectX, .NET, or another general runtime restores this Windows Bluetooth component. Windows servicing is the appropriate source.
