If Windows says it is missing or cannot be loaded, the safest fix is to identify the Lexmark printer or scanner that installed it and reinstall that model’s complete Windows software package.
Do not start by downloading the DLL from a random website or copying it into System32. The file may depend on other Lexmark files, registry entries, an INF installation, and the correct 32-bit or 64-bit application environment.
What lxaa3view.dll is
Public file metadata describes lxaa3view.dll as “WIA UI DLL” from Lexmark International, Inc. A commonly indexed copy is 32-bit and associated with older Lexmark printer and scanner software. Those details come from file databases rather than a current Lexmark component manifest, so treat them as identification clues, not guaranteed release specifications.
WIA means Windows Image Acquisition, the Windows framework used by imaging devices such as scanners and multifunction printers. Microsoft documents how device manufacturers provide WIA drivers and user-interface components through their driver packages.

The strongest historical association is with Lexmark OfficeEdge Pro4000-era multifunction software, although a current official Lexmark INF has not been found to confirm that this is the only product using the file. It may be loaded by:
- Lexmark scanning software
- A WIA or TWAIN client
- A Lexmark printer/scanner utility
- A legacy device-management component
It is not known to be supplied by Microsoft Visual C++, DirectX, .NET, or Windows itself.
Error messages you may see
The wording helps identify the stage at which the installation is failing:
- “The program can’t start because lxaa3view.dll is missing from your computer.”
- “There was a problem starting lxaa3view.dll. The specified module could not be found.”
- “Error loading lxaa3view.dll. The specified module could not be found.”
- “The code execution cannot proceed because lxaa3view.dll was not found.”
- “lxaa3view.dll is either not designed to run on Windows or it contains an error.”
“Specified module could not be found” does not always mean the named DLL itself is absent. A dependency required by the DLL may be missing. The “not designed to run on Windows” message can indicate corruption, an incompatible architecture, or a replacement file from an untrusted source.
Fix lxaa3view.dll errors step by step
1. Identify the Lexmark device and application
Time needed: 5–10 minutes
Before changing Windows, determine which software is asking for the file.
- Write down the complete error message.
- Note the program name shown in the title bar or error dialog.
- Open Settings with Windows key + I.
- Select Bluetooth & devices.
- Select Printers & scanners.
- Look for the Lexmark device, including printers that are offline.
- Open Apps > Installed apps.
- Search for
Lexmark, the printer model,Scan, or imaging utilities. - Check whether the error affects scanning, printing, or both.
If the error appeared after removing a printer, replacing it, upgrading Windows, restoring a user profile, or running disk cleanup, an old Lexmark utility may still be installed while one of its files has been removed.
If a game or unrelated application reports lxaa3view.dll, do not assume the game legitimately needs it. Check for an old bundled scanner utility, an incorrect DLL bundle, or malware. The executable named in the error is important.

2. Reinstall the complete Lexmark package
Time needed: 15–30 minutes
This is the primary fix for a missing or damaged Lexmark component.

- Identify the exact Lexmark model from the printer label or Settings > Bluetooth & devices > Printers & scanners.
- Open Lexmark’s official Drivers & Downloads support portal in your browser.
- Search for the exact model, not merely “Lexmark printer.”
- Select the actual Windows edition and release offered for that model.
- Choose the complete printer/scanner software package when available, rather than a print-only driver.
- Download the installer.
- In Settings > Apps > Installed apps, uninstall the damaged Lexmark software if the installer’s instructions require it.
- Disconnect the USB cable, or turn off the printer temporarily if the installer requests this.
- Restart Windows.
- Run the Lexmark installer as administrator by right-clicking it and choosing Run as administrator.
- Follow the connection instructions. Reconnect or power on the printer only when requested.
- Restart Windows again if the installer asks you to.
Open the Lexmark scanning utility or a Windows scanning application and test a preview. Then print a test page from Settings > Bluetooth & devices > Printers & scanners > your printer > Print test page.
If scanning works and the error does not return, the repair is complete. If the package does not list your model or Windows version, do not substitute a similar model’s installer.
The official Lexmark package is preferable to manual DLL replacement because it can install the file alongside its dependencies, configuration, permissions, and device-driver entries.
3. Check architecture and compatibility
Time needed: 5–15 minutes
A 32-bit Lexmark imaging component can be required by a 32-bit Lexmark utility even when Windows is 64-bit. Do not manually place a 32-bit file in System32 or SysWOW64.

- Open Settings.
- Select System > About.
- Find System type.
- Note whether Windows is 64-bit or 32-bit.
Then return to the Lexmark download page and select the package specifically offered for your model and Windows architecture. If the current portal does not provide a compatible package, search Lexmark’s support documentation for the model’s legacy support instructions rather than downloading a DLL separately.
A package designed for another Lexmark model may install successfully but still fail when the application looks for different scanner components.

4. Check antivirus quarantine
Time needed: 5–10 minutes
Security software may have removed a legacy component, especially after an update or a change in detection rules.
- Open Windows Security from the Start menu.
- Select Virus & threat protection.
- Select Protection history.
- Look for an event involving
lxaa3view.dllor Lexmark software. - Review the detected file path and reason.
- Run a full scan before restoring anything.
Restore the file only when all of the following are true:
- The file was inside the Lexmark installation directory.
- The Lexmark software came from the official Lexmark installer.
- The detection is understood and appears to be a false positive.
- A full malware scan is clean.
Reinstalling the complete Lexmark package is safer than restoring an isolated DLL. If antivirus repeatedly removes the file, do not keep restoring it. Contact Lexmark or the security vendor and provide the detection name and file path.
5. Install Windows updates and refresh the device
Time needed: 15–25 minutes
This can help when a Windows upgrade or driver-store change left the device in an inconsistent state.
- Open Settings > Windows Update.
- Select Check for updates.
- Install available updates.
- Restart Windows.
- Open Settings > Bluetooth & devices > Printers & scanners.
- Select the Lexmark printer.
- Choose Remove.
- Restart Windows.
- Reinstall the exact Lexmark package from the manufacturer.
You can also inspect the device entry:
- Right-click Start.
- Select Device Manager.
- Expand Printers, Print queues, and Imaging devices.
- Right-click the Lexmark device.
- Choose Uninstall device if it is clearly the affected device.
- Restart Windows.
- Run the Lexmark installer again.
Do not remove unrelated imaging devices. If Device Manager shows a warning icon, record the device name and error code before uninstalling it.

6. Repair Windows components with DISM and SFC
Time needed: 15–30 minutes
Use these commands when Windows itself is unstable, updates fail, or multiple built-in components are damaged. They are not a guaranteed way to restore a third-party Lexmark DLL.
- Right-click Start.
- Select Terminal (Admin) or Windows PowerShell (Admin).
- Approve the User Account Control prompt.
- Run:
DISM.exe /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth
- Wait for it to finish.
- Run:
sfc /scannow
- Restart Windows.
- Reinstall the Lexmark package.
DISM repairs the Windows component store. SFC checks protected Windows system files. Neither command proves that lxaa3view.dll will be recovered because the file belongs to Lexmark software, not the Windows system file set.

7. Do not register or copy the DLL manually
Time needed: 2 minutes
regsvr32 is not a universal DLL repair command. It works with DLLs that expose registration entry points such as DllRegisterServer. A WIA user-interface or driver component may not support that operation.
Do not run this command merely because the filename ends in .dll:
regsvr32 lxaa3view.dll
A failure from regsvr32 does not prove that Windows is broken. Use it only if Lexmark’s instructions for the exact model and package explicitly require registration.
Also avoid:
- Copying the file into
C:WindowsSystem32 - Copying it into
C:WindowsSysWOW64 - Renaming another DLL to
lxaa3view.dll - Downloading a replacement from a DLL repository
- Disabling antivirus permanently
- Installing a Visual C++ package without evidence that it is required
The correct location depends on the installer, process architecture, permissions, and related Lexmark files.
8. Use System Restore only for a recent change
Time needed: 20–45 minutes
System Restore is a fallback when the error began immediately after a driver installation, software removal, or Windows change.

rstrui.exe. - Press Enter.
- Select Next.
- Choose a restore point dated before the error began.
- Select Scan for affected programs if available.
- Review the applications and drivers that may be removed.
- Select Finish only if the rollback is acceptable.
System Restore may remove recently installed drivers and applications, but it does not replace a model-specific Lexmark package. After the rollback, test the scanner and update the Lexmark software through the official support channel.

Collect these details before contacting support:
- The exact error text
- The executable named in the dialog
- Lexmark model and connection type
- Windows edition, version, and system type
- Whether printing, scanning, or both are affected
- The actual path of any remaining

- Whether the failure began after an update, uninstall, migration, or replacement
“The specified module could not be found” may indicate a missing dependency. If the error returns after reinstalling, Process Monitor or the application vendor’s diagnostics can identify which file the program tries to load. Avoid downloading individual dependencies based only on a filename match.
