If SYNDUALITY: Echo of Ada crashes, freezes, shows a black screen, or closes during startup or missions, work through these fixes in order. Start with the game’s requirements, updates, and Steam file verification; then check drivers, Easy Anti-Cheat, overlays, configuration data, and hardware stability. Leave a clean reinstall and support report until the end.
First, identify the failure: a crash before the menu points toward files, drivers, anti-cheat, or compatibility; a shader-compilation crash often involves drivers, shader data, or unstable hardware; and a crash after several minutes makes temperatures, overclocking, VRAM, RAM, and background software more important.
| Symptom | Start with |
|---|---|
| Closes before the main menu | Requirements, dedicated GPU, drivers, files, and Easy Anti-Cheat |
| Black screen or driver reset | GPU driver, laptop GPU selection, and overlays |
| Crashes during shader compilation | Driver cleanup, shader-cache reset, and stock hardware settings |
| Crashes while loading a mission | File verification, configuration reset, overlays, and available memory |
| Easy Anti-Cheat error | Repair the anti-cheat service and verify Steam files |
| Started after an update | Restart Steam, verify files, rebuild configuration data, and test a driver rollback |
Before you start
- Restart both Steam and Windows.
- Write down the exact error message and when the crash happens.
- Back up saves and configuration folders before deleting or renaming anything.
- Check the official Steam page, Steam news, and Bandai Namco’s game page for current notices.
The Steam listing specifies 64-bit Windows 10 or 11, DirectX 12, 16 GB of RAM, and 60 GB of storage. It lists separate graphics targets: a GTX 1060, RX 480, or Intel Arc A750 for 1080p/30fps, and an RTX 2070 or RX 6600 XT for 1080p/60fps with Prioritize Performance. Meeting those specifications is not a guarantee of crash-free operation.
1. Check the requirements and select the dedicated GPU
On Windows, press Windows + R, enter dxdiag, and press Enter. Use the System tab to check Windows, processor, and memory information. The Display tab shows the active graphics adapter and DirectX information.

- TRIFORCE TITANIUM 50 MM DRIVERS — Our cutting-edge proprietary design divides the driver into 3 parts for the individual tuning of highs, mids, and lows—producing brighter, clearer audio with richer highs and more powerful lows
- HYPERCLEAR CARDIOID MIC — An improved pickup pattern ensures more voice and less noise as it tapers off towards the mic’s back and sides, with the sweet spot easily placed at the mouth because of the mic’s bendable design
- ADVANCED PASSIVE NOISE CANCELLATION — Sturdy closed earcups fully cover the ears to prevent noise from leaking into the headset, with its cushions providing a closer seal for more sound isolation
- LIGHTWEIGHT DESIGN WITH MEMORY FOAM EAR CUSHIONS — At just 240 g, the headset features thicker headband padding and memory foam ear cushions with leatherette to keep gaming in peak form during grueling tournaments and training sessions
- WORKS WITH WINDOWS SONIC — Make the most of the headset’s powerful drivers by pairing it with lifelike surround sound that places audio with pinpoint accuracy, heightening in-game awareness and immersion
On a laptop, make sure the game is not launching on integrated graphics:
- Open Settings → System → Display → Graphics.
- Add the game executable if it is not listed.
- Select the game, choose Options, and set it to High performance.
- Restart the game.
Also check free space on both the Steam installation drive and the Windows system drive. Low space can interfere with updates, shader caches, and temporary files. Do not force DirectX 11 as a general fix: the listed requirement is DirectX 12, and an unsupported launch option can prevent the game from starting.
2. Update or clean-install the graphics driver
A damaged or incompatible driver can cause startup crashes, shader-compilation failures, black screens, and driver resets. Download drivers only from the manufacturer:
During installation, choose the vendor’s clean-install or reset option when available, then reboot Windows before testing SYNDUALITY: Echo of Ada. Test with overlays and custom GPU tuning disabled.
There is one important exception: if the crashes began immediately after a driver update, try the previous stable driver instead of assuming the newest version is best. Do not apply a driver rollback as a universal rule without checking when the problem started.

3. Verify the Steam installation
Steam’s file check is the safest repair for missing or corrupted game data.
- Open Steam → Library.
- Right-click SYNDUALITY: Echo of Ada.
- Select Properties.
- Open Installed Files.
- Click Verify integrity of game files.
- Wait for the process and any replacement download to finish.
- Restart Steam and launch the game.
This can repair interrupted updates, missing executables or DLLs, and corrupted packaged assets. It cannot repair an unstable overclock, overheating, a bad driver, damaged Windows components, or a server-side problem. Do not interrupt the download or immediately copy modified files back into the installation folder.
4. Repair Easy Anti-Cheat
The Steam listing identifies Easy Anti-Cheat as part of the PC version. It may be involved when the game closes before the menu or displays an anti-cheat error, but it is not automatically the cause of every crash.
- In Steam, open the game’s Properties → Installed Files → Browse.
- Look for an Easy Anti-Cheat folder or setup executable.
- Run the setup utility.
- Select SYNDUALITY: Echo of Ada if it appears.
- Choose Repair Service, or the equivalent repair option.
- Reboot Windows and test the game.
If the setup utility is missing, verify the game files again. Never download a replacement anti-cheat executable or DLL from an unofficial site. Steam also notes that Easy Anti-Cheat may require manual removal after uninstalling; that is an edge case for a failed reinstall, not a reason to remove its files pre-emptively.
5. Disable overlays and background injectors
Temporarily disable overlays and fully exit software that injects into or monitors the game:

- Steam Overlay
- Discord overlay
- NVIDIA App or GeForce overlay
- AMD Radeon overlay
- Xbox Game Bar
- MSI Afterburner and RivaTuner Statistics Server
- ReShade, recording tools, RGB utilities, and hardware-monitoring software
For Steam, right-click the game, choose Properties, open General, and turn off Enable the Steam Overlay while in-game. Close unnecessary browsers, launchers, virtual-reality software, and recording applications during the test.
Change one thing at a time. If closing everything fixes the crash, re-enable programs individually until the conflict is identified. A visible overlay being disabled does not always mean its background injection component has stopped; fully exit the process when testing.
6. Reset configuration and shader-cache data
Bad resolution, display-mode, upscaling, or advanced graphics settings can crash a game before its graphics menu appears. Close the game and Steam, then back up suspected settings before changing them.
- Search Windows for folders containing names such as
SYNDUALITY,Echo of Ada,Bandai Namco, orGameStudio. - Rename a suspected configuration folder to something like
Backup_oldrather than deleting it. - Restart the game and let it create default settings.
- Test stability before restoring older files.
Do not rely on a hard-coded folder path unless it matches the current build and installation. Unreal Engine games can store configuration under different user application-data locations. Do not delete save-game data as a routine crash fix.
You can also clear the relevant GPU shader cache through the vendor-supported method, then allow the game to rebuild its shaders without interruption. The first rebuild may take time and is a troubleshooting test, not a guaranteed cure. Cloud saves and local saves may not match, so back up data before touching folders.

7. Return the PC to stock settings
Temporarily disable CPU and GPU overclocks, undervolts, custom power limits, aggressive motherboard enhancement profiles, and—if memory instability is suspected—XMP or EXPO. Test with default BIOS and hardware settings.

Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsFree Scan →Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesFind Drivers →Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsFix Now →This step matters most when other demanding Unreal Engine games also crash, the system crashes under heavy load, the problem began after a BIOS or firmware change, or the game works at low settings but fails in demanding scenes. Check temperatures, GPU power behavior, RAM stability, and Windows Event Viewer for hardware-correction or driver-reset events.
Some users report instability involving demanding Unreal Engine games on certain Intel 13th- and 14th-generation systems, but that does not establish a SYNDUALITY-specific incompatibility. Check your motherboard manufacturer’s current BIOS guidance instead of applying an unverified voltage or power-limit configuration. Never disable safety protections.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone.8. Clean reinstall and collect evidence
Use a clean reinstall only after the reversible steps fail.
- Uninstall the game through Steam.
- Restart Windows.
- Check the Steam library folder for leftover game files.
- Reinstall to a drive with sufficient free space.
- Launch once with default graphics settings.
- Test before adding overlays, injectors, mods, or custom settings.
- Re-enable other software gradually.
If the reinstall still fails, inspect for leftover Easy Anti-Cheat components because Steam specifically warns that manual removal may sometimes be required after uninstalling. Do not remove unrelated Windows or anti-cheat files indiscriminately.

When the problem is probably not your PC
Stop escalating local fixes when the game is fully updated, files verify normally, drivers are stable, overlays are disabled, hardware is at stock settings, and the same failure occurs repeatedly. A crash limited to one area or activity may be game-side, especially if multiple players report it after a new build. SteamDB can show that files changed, but file activity does not prove that a particular crash was fixed. Check official notices before treating a community report as a confirmed developer finding.
Report the issue through Steam’s technical-support route for the game and Bandai Namco’s official support channels. Include:
- Exact crash message and symptom
- Whether it happens at startup, loading, or during a mission
- CPU, GPU, RAM, and Windows version
- GPU-driver version
- Whether file verification found or replaced anything
- Whether overlays and injectors were disabled
- Crash time, screenshot or video, and Windows Event Viewer details
- Crash-report files, if generated
- A
dxdiag.txtreport
A disconnect, server timeout, or return to the title screen is not necessarily a crash. A crash means the process closes, freezes indefinitely, or returns to the Windows desktop. Also separate prevention from recovery: a crash during an extraction mission may cause lost progress or equipment, but there is no basis to promise that already-lost items can be restored.
Windows, Linux, and Steam Deck users
The published Steam requirements specify 64-bit Windows 10 or Windows 11. If you are using Linux, Proton, or Steam Deck, results may differ from native-Windows troubleshooting, and these steps do not establish official Linux or Steam Deck support. A Proton-specific launch or compatibility problem should be reported separately from a Windows crash.
