Treat this as an unconfirmed-status situation: check Ubisoft’s official pages, the affected game’s status, and your platform before reinstalling anything.

How to check whether Ubisoft Connect is down
- Check Ubisoft Support for an incident or maintenance notice.
- Open the status page for the affected game, such as For Honor, Rainbow Six Siege, or Roller Champions.
- Check Downdetector’s Ubisoft/Uplay page for an unusual rise in user reports. Its outage map is a crowd-sourced signal, not an official Ubisoft diagnosis.
- Check the relevant platform: Steam, Epic Games Store, PlayStation Network, or Xbox Network.
No single result proves that every Ubisoft service is healthy. A game-status page can be operational while account authentication, Ubisoft Connect, Ubisoft Store, Ubisoft+, or another title is having problems.

The separate layers include your Ubisoft account and authentication, the Ubisoft Connect client, Ubisoft Store or Ubisoft+ entitlement checks, individual game servers, third-party storefronts, and your internet provider. Any one of them can produce a similar error.
What to do when Ubisoft Connect says “offline”
- Record the error and time. Save the exact wording, such as “Ubisoft services are currently unavailable,” “Client offline,” an activation error, or
dolphin-028. - Restart the software cleanly. Exit Ubisoft Connect completely, including its system-tray presence, then reopen it. Restart the game as well. If you use Steam or Epic, restart that launcher too.
- Check whether other games are affected. A failure across several games, devices, and networks is more consistent with an Ubisoft-side or account-service problem than a damaged installation.
- Test the connection. Temporarily disconnect a VPN or proxy and check firewall or security-software interference. Try a phone hotspot. If the game works on the hotspot but not home broadband, the problem may involve your router, ISP, DNS, or local network path. These are diagnostic tests, not proof that VPNs cause Ubisoft outages.
- Check the system clock. Confirm that the device’s date, time, and time zone are correct. A badly skewed clock can interfere with secure authentication and certificate validation.
- Update and repair. Install pending Ubisoft Connect, game, operating-system, and platform updates. Use Steam, Epic, or the relevant platform’s built-in file-verification or repair function. Reinstalling Ubisoft Connect should be a later step, not the first response.
- Try offline mode only when appropriate. If the game has previously authenticated on that device and supports offline play, the client may allow it to launch. Interface labels and locations can change, so use the current option shown in your client rather than relying on an old menu path.
- Contact Ubisoft Support. Use Ubisoft’s contact page if the problem survives multiple networks, the account is locked or repeatedly requests activation, a purchased game is not recognized, Ubisoft+ entitlement fails, cloud saves are missing, or a specific error continues after services recover.
What does error dolphin-028 mean?
dolphin-028 should be treated as evidence of a login or connectivity problem, not proof that Ubisoft’s global servers are down. Recent user reports have associated the code with Ubisoft Connect login failures, but those reports are anecdotal and cannot establish the cause or scope of an outage. Compare the error with official notices, reports from other users, and results from another network.

Can you play Ubisoft games while Ubisoft Connect is offline?
It depends on the game, edition, platform, ownership method, and whether the device has already authenticated the game. Ubisoft’s Terms of Use state that an internet connection, Ubisoft account, and Ubisoft Connect may be required to install, launch, access, or unlock some or all content. They also say that some games and features may require a permanent online connection.
- Some previously authenticated single-player games can launch offline.
- A first launch or a game with a required DRM check may still need online authentication.
- Multiplayer, matchmaking, online progression, rewards, stores, and social features require their respective services.
- Cloud saves cannot synchronize while disconnected. If you play offline, read any later save-conflict prompt carefully rather than automatically replacing the cloud or local file.
- A game purchased through Steam or Epic may still depend on both that storefront and Ubisoft Connect.
Ubisoft+ is different from ordinary ownership. The Ubisoft+ Terms require a persistent internet connection for both online and offline play. “Offline play” therefore does not mean that subscription entitlement can be validated without internet access.

Do not assume that every Ubisoft single-player game works offline or that buying a game outright removes all Ubisoft account, launcher, DRM, or online-service requirements. Check the requirements for the specific title and edition.
When the problem is probably not a global Ubisoft outage
- Only one computer or console is affected.
- Only one game fails while other Ubisoft titles work.
- A phone hotspot works but your home connection does not.
- Other online services fail at the same time.
- You can sign in through a browser but not through the desktop client.
- Only PlayStation, Xbox, Steam, or Epic users are affected.
- The issue began after a password change, unusual login, two-factor authentication prompt, or account-security event.
Regional outages and partial failures are also possible. Ubisoft Connect may accept logins while downloads, purchases, cloud saves, or matchmaking remain unavailable.

When to stop troubleshooting
If Ubisoft or multiple independent status signals confirm a broad outage, repeated reinstalls, router resets, and account changes are unlikely to help. Record the error, check for updates periodically, and wait for the affected service to recover. If official pages show normal operation but the failure persists across different networks, escalate to Ubisoft Support instead of assuming the issue is global.
Bottom line
The latest available evidence does not confirm that Ubisoft Connect is experiencing a widespread outage, but it is not a live guarantee for September 15, 2026. First separate Ubisoft authentication from the launcher, game server, storefront, platform, and home network. Check the relevant status pages, restart the connected launchers, test another network, remove temporary connection blockers, and use offline mode only for games that have already authenticated and genuinely support it.
