There is no single “best” Faith build in Elden Ring. The strongest choice depends on whether you want a weapon-first fighter, ranged incantations, close-range casting, healing and buffs, or a hybrid that changes damage type for each enemy. The 15 templates below cover early game, mid-game, endgame and Journey 2 without pretending that one loadout wins every matchup.
The Fextralife video listing for Elden Ring Best 15 Faith Builds – Early and Late Game is dated April 26, 2024, but its public description does not provide complete equipment and stat sheets. Use the guide below as a practical, role-based set of builds rather than a transcription of an unverified video list.
What makes a Faith build work?
Faith unlocks incantation requirements, including damage, healing, buffs and utility. As Bandai Namco puts it, “Faith (FTH) is for incantations, which aren’t as specialized in damage compared to sorceries, but have many powerful utility spells.” Your seal, not the spell’s name, determines the important scaling number. The official advanced guide explains that spell damage is based on the casting tool’s Sorcery or Incant Scaling: Stats guide and Advanced Stats guide.
That distinction creates two legitimate approaches. A melee character can invest just enough Faith to cast a buff or heal while its weapon supplies most damage. A caster can push Faith and Mind much higher, then choose a seal whose Incant Scaling matches all of the character’s relevant attributes.

The 15 Faith builds
The stages indicate when a concept becomes comfortable, not a hard level requirement. “Early” means it can function before a complete late-game collection; “mid” assumes the character has several regions and upgrade materials; “late” assumes most core attributes and spell choices are available. No independent win-rate or damage test establishes a universal ranking, so these are comparisons by role, cost and matchup.
| # | Build and stage | Combat loop | Attribute and seal plan | FP/stamina and defenses | Damage and resistance profile | Shadow of the Erdtree |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| 1 | Beginner buffed melee Early |
Fight primarily with a weapon; apply a Faith buff, heal between encounters and use a short-range offensive incantation when an opening appears. | Prioritize Vigor and weapon requirements, then enough Faith for the chosen buff and a seal with useful Incant Scaling. Keep Mind modest. | Low FP; moderate stamina. Spend early points on Vigor and enough Endurance to keep a medium roll. | Mostly physical weapon damage with a temporary elemental or status layer. It avoids committing to one spell element. | None |
| 2 | Early fire caster Early to mid |
Open at range with fire incantations, then finish with a light weapon when enemies close the distance. | Raise Faith around spell requirements and scaling, Mind for repeated casts, and use a seal whose Incant Scaling is stronger at your current attributes. | Medium FP; low-to-moderate stamina. Vigor still comes before chasing maximum spell damage. | Fire is excellent when enemies lack fire resistance but loses efficiency against fire-resistant targets; carry a physical fallback. | None |
| 3 | Field medic Early to mid |
Use healing and cleansing utility to reduce flask pressure, add buffs before a fight and contribute safe damage only when it is free. | Faith meets healing and buff requirements; Mind supports the rotation. Seal scaling matters less than survivability until offensive spells are added. | Medium FP and low stamina demand. High Vigor makes mistakes less punishing. | Low personal burst, but strong sustain and party value. Damage type depends on the backup weapon or selected utility spell. | None |
| 4 | Lightning skirmisher Mid-game |
Cast lightning from spacing, roll through counterattacks and use a quick weapon for enemies that close the gap. | Faith is the main damage attribute; add Mind for a repeatable ranged rotation and keep the seal matched to your actual attribute spread. | Medium FP and moderate stamina. Endurance must cover repeated evasive movement without a heavy roll. | Lightning gives a different matchup profile from fire and holy attacks; switch when an enemy’s resistance makes ranged casts inefficient. | Optional |
| 5 | Flame-and-blade hybrid Mid-game |
Alternate weapon pressure at close range with flame incantations when enemies retreat or can be punished from distance. | Split points between weapon requirements and Faith; do not neglect the secondary weapon-scaling attributes. Choose a seal that benefits the full spread rather than Faith alone. | Medium-to-high FP and stamina. Endurance is valuable because the build attacks, dodges and casts in the same exchange. | Flexible fire plus weapon damage, but fire-resistant enemies demand a non-fire option. | Optional |
| 6 | Holy weapon striker Mid to late |
Use a Faith-scaling weapon as the primary tool and reserve incantations for buffs, ranged pulls and emergency healing. | Faith supports both weapon scaling and spell access; verify the weapon’s scaling separately from the seal’s Incant Scaling. | Low-to-medium FP; moderate stamina. This is easier to sustain than a pure caster. | Strong holy identity, but holy resistance can sharply reduce damage in parts of late progression. Keep physical or elemental alternatives. | Optional |
| 7 | Ranged holy caster Mid to late |
Maintain distance, chain projectile or area incantations and use a sidearm only when an enemy reaches you. | Push Faith toward the spell-scaling softcaps as the rest of the build allows; a seal with high Incant Scaling is mandatory. Mind becomes a major investment. | High FP and low-to-moderate stamina. Vigor determines whether a failed spacing attempt ends the fight. | Reliable range but vulnerable to holy-resistant enemies and bosses that punish long casting animations. | Optional |
| 8 | Defensive paladin Mid to late |
Absorb pressure with strong defenses, maintain buffs, trade safely and heal rather than forcing every damage window. | Prioritize Vigor, Endurance and equipment requirements; add Faith for buffs and a reliable seal. Damage stats come after the defensive core. | Low-to-medium FP and high stamina demand. Stay at a medium load so defense does not turn into a heavy roll. | Consistent weapon damage with defensive utility; less exposed to any single elemental resistance because spells are not the whole offense. | None |
| 9 | Status Faith hybrid Mid to late |
Build status through repeated weapon hits or compatible incantations, then use Faith utility to survive the setup period. | Faith is paired with the secondary attribute required by the status weapon or seal. Check every scaling line instead of assuming Faith alone raises damage. | Medium FP and stamina. The build needs enough Endurance for repeated attacks and enough Mind for utility. | Status pressure can bypass some conventional defenses, but buildup is slower or less reliable against resistant targets and bosses with short openings. | Optional |
| 10 | Pure incantation specialist Late game |
Use a broad spell bar for ranged damage, area control, buffs and healing; swap spells instead of forcing one element. | Faith is the primary offensive stat, with Mind commonly reaching at least 30 for a comfortable casting routine. Select the seal with the best Incant Scaling for all invested attributes. | High FP and moderate stamina. Vigor remains essential because a caster cannot heal through every mistake. | Broadest spell access, but every element has unfavorable matchups. Carry at least one damage type that is not your default. | Optional |
| 11 | Close-range incantation brawler Late game |
Cast during melee openings, use weapon attacks to stagger or punish and reserve longer spells for knockdowns or retreats. | Faith supports close-range incantation damage; Vigor and Endurance are nearly as important as Faith because the character operates inside enemy threat range. | Medium FP and high stamina. A medium roll and stamina recovery are more valuable than squeezing in one extra spell. | High burst when casts connect, but vulnerable to interruption and physical punishment. Match the element to the enemy. | Optional |
| 12 | Elemental flex caster Late game |
Carry fire, lightning, holy and non-elemental options, identify the enemy’s resistance and change the rotation before wasting FP. | Faith and Mind are high; the seal should be evaluated after every major attribute change because hybrid scaling can alter the best choice. | High FP and moderate stamina. Flask allocation must support the number of spell swaps and failed casts you expect. | Lowest single-resistance exposure of the 15 templates, at the cost of more spell slots and more decision-making. | Optional |
| 13 | Co-op support Faith Late game |
Keep allies alive with healing and buffs, control space and deal safe ranged damage rather than competing for every melee opening. | Faith and Mind support the utility cycle; invest enough Vigor and Endurance to survive while reviving or healing teammates. | High FP and moderate stamina. Flask planning matters because support spells can consume FP quickly. | Lower solo burst, but exceptional group sustain. Damage remains adaptable through the selected offensive incantations. | Optional |
| 14 | Journey 2 Faith weapon-plus-buff Journey 2 |
Use a fully upgraded Faith-scaling weapon for routine enemies and layer buffs or targeted incantations onto bosses. | With the basic needs covered, Faith can approach its 60 or 80 spell-scaling thresholds; retain the weapon’s required Strength or Dexterity and compare seal scaling rather than blindly adding Faith. | Medium FP and high stamina for repeated power attacks, buffs and evasions. Vigor around the later softcap keeps mistakes survivable. | Efficient and economical, but a single weapon damage type can be countered; carry a second option. | Optional |
| 15 | Journey 2 expansion hybrid Journey 2 and expansion content |
Combine a Faith weapon, high-end incantations and expansion equipment, changing between melee and casting as encounters demand. | Faith can be pushed toward the 80 spell-scaling softcap after Vigor, Mind, Endurance and weapon requirements are satisfied. Hybrid attributes must be included when comparing seals. | High FP and stamina. This is the most demanding template to equip without sacrificing a medium roll. | Maximum flexibility, but also the most complex loadout and the greatest exposure to conflicting attribute requirements. | High |
Stat priorities that apply to every template
Vigor first protects the build
Vigor determines HP. Bandai Namco’s reference points are 1,450 HP at 40 Vigor and 1,900 HP at 60 Vigor; these are useful softcap landmarks, not mandatory levels for every character. Early characters generally gain more from surviving an extra hit than from adding a small amount of spell damage.

Mind pays for the rotation
Mind determines FP. The official advanced guidance describes at least 30 Mind as a common comfort point for spell-focused characters, but the right value depends on your spell costs, flask allocation and how often you cast. Weapon-first and paladin builds can remain well below a pure caster’s Mind investment.
Endurance preserves stamina and the medium roll
Endurance affects stamina and equipment load. The published reference points are 50 for the stamina softcap and 60 for the equipment-load softcap. Treat them as planning landmarks, not a requirement to reach both. Keep the load ratio low enough for a normal or medium roll; a heavier defense package is not worthwhile if it changes your movement and recovery.

Faith has separate spell and weapon breakpoints
The advanced guide identifies Faith spell-scaling softcaps at 60 and 80, while Faith weapon scaling has softcaps at 20, 50 and 80. A spell can require Faith without scaling efficiently from every additional point, and a weapon can scale differently from your seal. Check the weapon and seal independently before committing levels.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone. How to progress from early game to late game
- Secure survival. Raise Vigor, meet the minimum weapon and incantation requirements, and keep equipment at a medium roll.
- Choose one primary loop. Decide whether most encounters are solved by weapon attacks, ranged casting, close-range casting or support. Spend Mind and Faith according to that loop rather than leveling every offensive stat at once.
- Upgrade the seal and weapon. Incant Scaling from the seal and the weapon’s own scaling determine real output; Faith alone is not a substitute for upgrading either tool.
- Add a backup damage type. Fire, lightning, holy and physical attacks do not share identical resistance matchups. A backup weapon or spell prevents one resistant enemy from invalidating the build.
- Rebalance after major upgrades. A new seal, weapon, talisman or attribute breakpoint can change which tool has the best scaling. Recheck the displayed Incant Scaling instead of following an old allocation forever.
Resistance, FP and equipment decisions
Faith builds often fail because they optimize a paper damage number while ignoring the fight’s constraints. A ranged caster needs enough FP to finish an encounter, a close-range caster needs stamina to dodge after casting, and a support build needs enough Mind to heal without exhausting its flask supply. If an enemy resists your main element, changing the spell or weapon is usually more effective than forcing additional Faith levels.

Keep a limited active spell list. A small rotation of one ranged option, one close-range punish, one buff or heal and one resistance-safe fallback is easier to cast under pressure than a full catalogue of rarely used incantations.
Patch 1.17 and current-build caveats
Bandai Namco’s current official note at the time of writing is ELDEN RING Patch Notes Version 1.17, dated August 27, 2026, with App Ver. 1.17 and Regulation Ver. 1.17. It lists changes involving O, Flame!, Rain of Fire and Feather of the Divine Bird. If one of those incantations is central to your setup, verify its present behavior on your platform before finalizing a respec. Patch notes can change the practical value of a build without changing its attribute requirements.

Builds 1 through 14 are designed to function without expansion-specific equipment, although expansion content can add alternatives. The official ELDEN RING site states that Shadow of the Erdtree requires the base game; its Tarnished Edition includes both. Treat the expansion hybrid as an optional Journey 2 path rather than a prerequisite for Faith progression.
Quick Recap
Which template should you choose?
- New player: Start with Beginner Buffed Melee or Defensive Paladin; both tolerate imperfect casting and keep FP demands manageable.
- You want ranged damage: Choose Early Fire Caster, Lightning Skirmisher or Ranged Holy Caster, then add an alternate element for resistant enemies.
- You prefer maximum flexibility: Elemental Flex Caster gives the broadest matchup coverage, provided you can manage high Mind, spell slots and flask use.
- You play co-op: Field Medic or Co-op Support Faith turns Faith’s healing and utility into the central contribution.
- You are entering Journey 2: Faith Weapon-plus-Buff is the efficient option; the Expansion Hybrid is for players willing to manage the largest attribute and equipment spread.
