Xbox moved the feature from an Insider preview in 2024 to broad availability, and described Cloud Gaming as out of beta in February 2026. Xbox reported more than 190 cloud games with active mouse-and-keyboard support on April 30, 2026. You still need a qualifying Game Pass subscription, a supported client, compatible peripherals, and a game that exposes the required input support.
Is keyboard-and-mouse support still in beta?
No. The keyboard-and-mouse rollout and Xbox Cloud Gaming’s service status are separate from previews of individual web features.

Xbox’s redesigned web interface is a different public preview. To try it, open xbox.com/play, sign in, choose Settings from your profile menu, enable Preview Features, and wait up to 10 minutes; you can return to the existing experience at xbox.com/play. The preview itself is not required for ordinary keyboard-and-mouse play. Xbox’s web-experience preview announcement
What you need before launching a game
- Game Pass: Xbox’s current comparison page lists cloud gaming with Essential, Premium, and Ultimate plans. Availability, catalogues, benefits, and prices vary by country and can change. Check the official plan comparison.
- A supported client: Xbox specifically named current Microsoft Edge, Google Chrome, and the Xbox app on Windows PC for the rollout.
- A supported game: Cloud access does not mean the game accepts keyboard and mouse. Look for the input badge or the Play with mouse and keyboard collection.
- Peripherals: A standard wired USB keyboard and wired USB mouse are the safest baseline. Xbox references wired USB mice and keyboards for navigation in select games and apps across Xbox and Windows devices. April 2026 Xbox update
- Connection: Xbox recommends at least 20 Mbps for stable cloud gaming, Ethernet where possible, or 5 GHz Wi-Fi. That is a recommendation, not a guarantee of low latency. Xbox Cloud Gaming getting-started guide
Xbox’s getting-started guide lists browser cloud gaming on macOS, iOS, iPadOS, Android, ChromeOS, and Steam Deck. However, keyboard-and-mouse behavior remains game-, browser-, and device-dependent on those platforms; do not assume that every Cloud Gaming device supports the input method.

How to play with a keyboard and mouse in a browser
- Plug in the keyboard and mouse before starting the stream. A direct USB connection is easiest to troubleshoot.
- Open a current Microsoft Edge or Google Chrome window.
- Visit xbox.com/play and sign in with the Microsoft account attached to your Game Pass subscription.
- Choose a game showing keyboard-and-mouse support or listed in the relevant Xbox collection.
- Launch the stream, then click inside the game window so it captures mouse and keyboard focus.
- Test movement, camera control, menus, and text entry before joining a competitive match.
Xbox’s original public instructions were simply to visit xbox.com/play, sign in, and select a supported title. Mouse capture can be lost when the browser window or another tab receives focus, so clicking back into the stream is often enough to restore it.
How to use the Windows Xbox app
- Install or update the Xbox app on a Windows PC and sign in.
- Open the Cloud Gaming tab.
- Find the Play with mouse and keyboard collection or a title carrying the mouse-and-keyboard badge.
- Launch the game and test its controls before committing to a long session.
This path was specifically documented in Xbox’s June 2024 update. A title may support the browser and Windows app differently, so the badge in the client you intend to use matters.

Which games support keyboard and mouse?
Support is title-specific and the catalogue changes. Xbox said more than 190 cloud games had active mouse-and-keyboard support in its April 30, 2026 update; that is a dated catalogue snapshot, not a permanent limit.

- Early Insider examples included Fortnite (browser-only at that stage), ARK: Survival Evolved, Sea of Thieves, Grounded, Halo Infinite, and Atomic Heart. March 2024 Insider notes

Before relying on any game, verify four things in the client you will use: it is currently cloud-playable, its cloud version supports keyboard and mouse, the badge or collection entry is still present, and menus or account-linking screens do not require a controller. “Stream your own game” is a separate feature and may require owning the title plus a qualifying subscription. Does this turn the console version into a PC version?
No. Keyboard-and-mouse input does not guarantee PC graphics settings, complete key remapping, identical menus, mods, or native-PC responsiveness. Console builds can have limited bindings, incomplete menu navigation, or imperfect switching between a controller and keyboard. Xbox’s 2024 Insider notes explicitly recorded an input-switching problem in at least one title. March 2024 Insider notes
Because the game is rendered remotely, input travels to a server and video returns to your screen. Even with fast hardware, you may notice delayed aim, uneven camera movement, stutter, compression, input drops, queueing, or interference from other browser tabs. Native PC installation remains preferable for competitive play when available.

Troubleshooting when input fails
- Confirm that the specific game supports keyboard and mouse.
- Use current Edge, Chrome, or the Windows Xbox app.
- Connect both devices before launching the stream and click inside the stream window.
- Check that the operating system recognizes the devices.
- Replace a hub, Bluetooth connection, or wireless dongle with a direct USB connection for testing.
- Close other tabs and overlays, and disable extensions that capture keyboard shortcuts.
- Restart the stream, then try Edge instead of Chrome, or the browser instead of the Windows app.
- Temporarily disconnect a controller if the game is switching input modes unexpectedly.
- If only one title fails, treat it as a game-specific compatibility issue rather than a service-wide outage.
What peripherals should you buy?
You do not need a mechanical keyboard, high-DPI mouse, RGB lighting, or brand software. Start with an inexpensive wired USB keyboard and mouse; this removes pairing, battery, and dongle variables while you establish that your game and client work.
Choose based on your setup
- Living-room use: A wireless set is more convenient, but verify Bluetooth or dongle support and expect extra battery and pairing failure modes.
- Handhelds and tablets: A compact keyboard, mouse, and suitable USB-C hub or adapter may be useful. A powered hub is only needed if the device cannot reliably power both peripherals.
- Travel: Compact wired devices are simple and broadly compatible.
- FPS players: A comfortable mouse can help, but a higher polling rate or extreme DPI cannot remove cloud latency.
Official vendor starting points include Microsoft Accessories, Logitech G keyboards, Logitech G mice, Razer keyboards, and Razer mice. These brands are not presented as Xbox-certified; choose for ordinary connectivity, layout, comfort, and price.

When another option is better
- Native PC version: Lowest latency, full graphics options, mods, complete remapping, and offline access, at the cost of storage and suitable hardware.
- Console and controller: Simpler living-room setup and often better menu support, but it does not provide the same keyboard-focused experience.
- Other cloud services: Libraries, ownership rules, storefronts, regions, queues, resolution, and input behavior differ, so compare those details rather than assuming equivalence.
The Bottom Line
Xbox Cloud Gaming keyboard-and-mouse support is broadly available in 2026, not a new Insider-only beta. The practical limits are the individual game, the client and device you use, and the responsiveness of your network—not the absence of an expensive gaming keyboard.
