Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteDriver Scan →Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsFree Scan →There is no single confirmed fix for every The Division 2 failure on PS5. Start by checking Ubisoft’s live Division 2 status and PlayStation Network status, then use the least destructive repair that matches your symptom. Ubisoft’s current product page lists the PlayStation 4 version, so most PS5 owners are troubleshooting the PS4 application running through backward compatibility; verify the edition shown in your library.
Identify the failure before changing anything
| What you see | Start here |
|---|---|
| Closes immediately or returns to the home screen | Close the game, restart the PS5, update both, then try cache/database maintenance. |
| Freezes on the Ubisoft or Division 2 logo, black screen, or loading screen | Check service status, network and licenses before reinstalling. |
| Padlock or ownership message | Sign in with the purchasing account and restore licenses. |
| Update or download repeatedly fails | Check storage and Downloads/Uploads, then use Safe Mode or reinstall. |
| Ubisoft login, DELTA, or connection timeout | Treat it as an authentication/network problem, not automatically a crash. |
| Only one character, activity, or menu fails | Record the exact trigger and contact Ubisoft if a clean installation does not help. |
| Disc is not recognized | Follow the disc-drive checks below. |
| Several games crash, the console powers off, or storage errors appear | Escalate to PlayStation support and its Repairs diagnostics. |
Try these low-risk fixes first
- Check the Ubisoft Division 2 status page and PSN status. An outage or maintenance window cannot be repaired locally.
- Close the game completely: press the PS button, highlight the game, choose Options > Close Game when available.
- Turn the console off from Power > Turn Off PS5, wait until the indicator is fully off, then start it again. Do not unplug the console during operation or an update.
- Highlight the game, press Options > Check for Update if shown, and inspect Downloads/Uploads for paused or failed items.
- Update the console through Settings > System > System Software > System Software Update and Settings > Update System Software. Game and system updates use separate channels. Sony’s instructions are at PS5 system software support.
- Run Settings > Network > Connection Status > Test Internet Connection.
At the time covered by this guide, Ubisoft search results showed title update TUY8S2.2 dated July 20, 2026. Do not assume that is still the newest build: check the game’s title screen and current Ubisoft news and updates for later hotfixes.
Restore licenses for padlocks and ownership errors
Use Settings > Users and Accounts > Other > Restore Licenses. This is appropriate when a padlock appears, PSN validation fails, Console Sharing was changed, the console was restored, or a PlayStation Plus entitlement is not being recognized.
- Confirm you are signed in to the account that bought the game.
- Verify any required PlayStation Plus entitlement is active.
- If another account owns the game, check that Console Sharing and Offline Play is enabled for that account.

Test the network without changing advanced router settings
- Restart the PS5 and modem/router.
- For a temporary diagnostic, connect by Ethernet instead of Wi-Fi.
- Pause other downloads and streaming.
- If your router separates 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz networks, test the other band.
- After confirming Ubisoft and PSN are operating, try signing in again.
Sony’s connection guidance also recommends powering the modem/router off for at least five minutes before restarting it in applicable connection or license-error cases. DNS changes, port forwarding, DMZ mode, and a router replacement are not universal Division 2 fixes.
Clear the PS5 cache, then rebuild its database
Use these options when crashes continue, an icon remains after deletion, installation data looks inconsistent, or the whole system feels sluggish. They are maintenance tools, not guaranteed game-specific cures. Back up important data before advanced maintenance.
- Turn off the PS5 by holding the power button for about three seconds.
- With it off, hold the power button again and release after the second beep (about seven seconds after the first).
- Connect the DualSense with a USB cable and press the PS button.
- Select Clear Cache and Rebuild Database.
- Choose Clear System Software Cache first. If the problem remains, return to Safe Mode and choose Rebuild Database.
Sony describes cache clearing as useful for system-feature issues or performance drops and rebuilding as a scan that creates a new content index. The options are not the same as deleting games or saved data. Details are on PS5 Safe Mode support.

Delete and reinstall only when the installation is the likely cause
Reinstall when an update repeatedly fails, a download was interrupted, the game crashes at the same point after maintenance, or other games work normally. Before deleting, confirm your PSN credentials, available storage, and ability to redownload the title. If you have PlayStation Plus, allow cloud saves to synchronize. Do not delete local saved data as an early troubleshooting step; online progression and local settings are separate concerns and should not be treated casually.
Use Sony’s download troubleshooting and CE-120706-6 guidance for storage checks, Safe Mode maintenance, and reinstall steps.
Disc-version checks
- Eject and reinsert the disc. In a vertically oriented PS5, the labeled side faces left.
- Clean the disc with a soft, clean cloth.
- Test another game disc, Blu-ray, or DVD.
- Use Safe Mode cache/database tools if reading remains inconsistent.
If multiple discs fail, the drive or console is more likely at fault than The Division 2. Follow Sony’s disc-reading troubleshooting.

Use the symptom pattern to locate the cause
Ubisoft-side
If the status page shows maintenance or an incident, wait and retry later. A game that reaches menus but cannot authenticate can be a service problem even when the application never visibly crashes.
PSN or account-side
A padlock, entitlement warning, or failure on one account points to licensing, Console Sharing, or PlayStation Plus access. Restore licenses and verify the owning account.

Installation-side
If only Division 2 fails, especially after an interrupted update, cache/database maintenance followed by a clean reinstall is the appropriate escalation.
PS5 system or hardware-side
Several unrelated games failing, system-storage errors, overheating, unexpected shutdowns, unstable Safe Mode, or unreadable discs justify PlayStation support rather than more game reinstalls.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone.Do not jump to these steps
- Do not factory-reset the PS5 for a single-game crash.
- Do not select Reset PS5 or Reset PS5 (Reinstall System Software) unless support directs it and your data is backed up; reinstalling system software deletes all console data.
- Do not download unofficial fix files, modify system software, or use account-sharing workarounds.
- Do not buy an SSD, router, or special cable expecting a guaranteed Division 2 crash fix.
When to contact support
Contact Ubisoft Support for reproducible Division 2-only failures, character or activity-specific crashes, or authentication problems that remain after service and account checks. Contact PlayStation Support or its Repairs diagnostic tool for system-wide failures.

FAQ
Is The Division 2 a native PS5 game?
Ubisoft’s current product page lists PlayStation 4 among the platforms. On PS5, verify the edition shown in your library rather than assuming a separate native PS5 build.
Will rebuilding the database delete my games?
Sony describes it as scanning the drive and creating a new content index. It is distinct from Reset PS5, but back up important data before maintenance.
Is buying an SSD or changing DNS necessary?
No. Neither is an established universal fix; consider hardware or advanced networking only when your symptoms specifically indicate storage or connectivity trouble.
