As of August 18, 2026, the current browser game is available through Surviv.io and its Kongregate listing. Open the official page, choose Solo, Duo, or Squad, then loot, stay ahead of the red zone, and outlast the other players. This guide covers the current relaunch interface, controls, first-match routine, combat, team play, and loading problems.
Is Surviv.io still available?
Surviv.io returned to the island in March 2026. The official site announces the return on March 18, 2026, while Kongregate lists March 19, 2026 as the current release date. The official browser page identifies the game as version 0.9.2. A related app-style page shows version 0.9.1, so do not assume its interface is identical to the browser version.
Use https://surviv.io/ as the primary route. The current game is browser-based and the Kongregate listing describes it as playable without a traditional installation. Old search results may still report the 2023 shutdown; those pages describe the former service, not this relaunch. Avoid treating unofficial mirrors or community projects as the official game.
The current page includes mode selection, account controls, leaderboards, loadout and statistics areas, and version information. Login or account creation may be relevant to progression or particular features, but the available interface does not establish that every player must register before playing.

How to start your first match
- Open https://surviv.io/ in a current desktop browser.
- Wait for the game interface to finish loading.
- Choose Play Solo, Play Duo, or Play Squad.
- In Duo or Squad, enable team autofill if it is offered and you do not already have teammates. If friends sent a team link or code, use the create/join team option instead.
- Click Play and wait for matchmaking and spawning.
Kongregate describes matches of up to 80 players and a typical duration of roughly three to five minutes; those are listing descriptions, not guarantees for every match.
The objective in plain English
Surviv.io is a top-down battle royale: you begin with almost nothing, find equipment, stay inside the safe area, and try to be the last player or team alive. A normal match has no respawn. Winning does not require the most eliminations. Your three priorities are:
- Survive the zone. Move before the red area reaches you.
- Get usable gear. A weapon, matching ammunition, healing, and basic protection matter more than a perfect loadout.
- Choose fights. Avoid engagements that leave you exposed or trapped outside the safe area.
Current keyboard and mouse controls
The official Surviv.io page provides the fuller browser control list. Kongregate shows a shorter list, so a key may vary slightly with the current interface or version.

Aim independently of movement: steer with WASD while pointing the mouse where you want to attack. Press R before a fight if your magazine is partly empty. Remember that right-click has two meanings: it drops an inventory item when used on that item, but opens emotes in the play area. The multifunctional F key handles most nearby interactions.

Your first 60 seconds
- Move toward the nearest building, crate, furniture, or other loot location.
- Pick up any usable weapon immediately; do not wait for an ideal one.
- Collect ammunition that matches the weapon.
- Find at least one healing item.
- Take a helmet and vest when available, then improve your backpack if you find an upgrade.
- Loot in short bursts and avoid standing still in an exposed doorway or field.
- Open the map and start moving toward the safe area before the red zone forces you to rotate.
You begin with a simple backpack and otherwise no normal loot. Buildings, crates, furniture, bunkers, and defeated players can contain equipment. A mediocre weapon with ammunition is more useful than an empty inventory while you search for something better.
How looting and equipment work
What to pick up first
- Any weapon you can fire.
- Its compatible ammunition.
- A healing item.
- Helmet and vest.
- A larger backpack.
- A scope or stronger weapon.
- Extra ammunition and useful consumables.
What each item does
- Weapons let you attack at melee or ranged distance.
- Ammunition must match the weapon; incompatible rounds only consume inventory space.
- Armor reduces incoming damage.
- Scopes improve visibility and help at longer engagement distances.
- Healing items restore health.
- Soda and pills are adrenaline-type consumables that restore health over time according to the current game listing.
Managing the inventory
Weapon slots are numbered 1–4. Switch with a number key or the mouse wheel, use R to reload, E to stow weapons, and T to switch gun slots. Use 7–0 or click a medical item to activate it. Right-click an inventory item to drop it. Keep enough ammunition for the weapons you actually carry instead of filling the backpack with unusable rounds.
How the red zone and safe zone work
The red zone closes inward from the edges of the map. Standing in it damages you, and the damage becomes increasingly severe. The map and minimap show where the playable area is moving. Zone damage can eliminate you even when no opponent is shooting.
- Check the map before entering a building or starting a long loot search.
- Rotate early instead of waiting for the boundary to reach you.
- Use trees, walls, buildings, and terrain as cover while moving.
- Do not cross the map just to chase a distant item.
- If you must choose between better loot and safety, choose safety.
The shrinking area also pushes surviving players together, so reaching the safe zone early gives you more time to choose cover and listen for nearby fights.

Beginner combat fundamentals
- Point the mouse at the opponent.
- Fire with left click while continuing to move.
- Use walls, trees, buildings, and other cover rather than standing in open ground.
- Reload with R when you have cover or distance.
- Stop looting if an enemy is nearby.
- Disengage when the fight moves into the red zone or an unfavorable position.
- After an elimination, scan for other players before opening the defeated player’s loot.
Cover beats open ground, and position often matters more than panic firing. A full magazine is generally more valuable than a marginally stronger weapon with no ammunition. You do not have to fight everyone you see. A third-party opportunity—approaching two opponents already fighting—can work, but rushing into both lines of fire can leave a new player exposed.
Healing and consumables
Activate medical items by clicking them or using the 7–0 shortcuts. Healing takes time, so move behind cover before starting. Soda and pills provide health over time in the current listing. Press X to cancel an action if the situation changes.
Never heal in the open when an enemy may have line of sight. Healing does not make you invulnerable; if an opponent can see you, finishing the action may be unsafe. Create distance, use cover, and check the minimap before committing to a long recovery action.
Solo, Duo, or Squad?
Solo
Solo has no teammate who can revive you. It is the simplest mode for learning movement, looting, aiming, map checks, and when to disengage. Stealth and positioning carry more weight because every mistake is yours alone.

Duo and Squad
Team modes provide support but require coordination. Stay close enough to help one another, share ammunition and medical supplies when practical, and use the team-ping wheel by holding C, then holding right click and dragging. Near a downed teammate, press F to revive. Do not rush into an unwinnable fight solely to start a revive; opponents may be watching the downed player.
Autofill is useful when you have no group, while a team link or code is intended for friends or an existing party. Team modes are not automatically easier: scattered players lose the advantage of shared information and cover.

First match: learn the controls
Concentrate on WASD movement, mouse aiming, picking up items with F, changing weapons, reloading, using a heal, and opening the map. Survival is a bonus; learning the input loop is the goal.
Next few matches: learn survival
Land near loot without choosing the busiest area, stay ahead of the zone, move from cover to cover, and practice disengaging instead of chasing every opponent.

Later matches: add combat
Keep your preferred weapon loaded, fight from cover, track opponents with the mouse, and loot quickly only after checking for another enemy.
After each death, identify the specific cause: zone damage, no weapon, missing ammunition, a failed reload, poor positioning, an unsafe heal, or an unnecessary engagement. Fix one cause in the next match.
Common beginner mistakes
- Searching too long before picking up a usable weapon.
- Carrying ammunition that does not match your weapons.
- Ignoring the map until the red zone is already close.
- Standing still in open ground while aiming or looting.
- Reloading during an exposed exchange instead of moving behind cover.
- Healing where an opponent can see you.
- Chasing a low-health opponent into the red zone.
- Opening a defeated player’s loot immediately without scanning for a second attacker.
- Rushing a downed teammate in Duo or Squad without checking the enemy’s position.
If Surviv.io will not load
- Refresh the official page.
- Confirm that JavaScript is enabled.
- Try a current desktop browser.
- Temporarily disable extensions that block scripts, ads, or embedded game content.
- Open the page in a private window to test for an extension or stale-cache problem.
- If the menu loads but matchmaking fails, return to the main menu and retry.
- Check the official game page or the Kongregate community for a service announcement.
A desktop or laptop with a keyboard and mouse is the clearest target for this control scheme. Phone and tablet behavior may differ. An older App Store page at https://apps.apple.com/us/app/surviv-io/id1401727934?ls=1 does not by itself prove that the mobile app is current or equivalent to the browser relaunch, so try the official browser route first.
If an old bookmark appears unavailable, use https://surviv.io/ rather than assuming a third-party mirror is legitimate. Community projects may preserve older mechanics, but they are not automatically official, secure, compatible, or connected to the relaunch.

- Check the map and rotate before the red zone arrives.
- Reload before entering a likely fight.
- Use cover and avoid open-ground duels.
- Take only favorable fights; survival is the win condition.
- Scan around a defeated opponent before looting.
- In team modes, stay close, ping information, and revive with F only when the area is reasonably safe.
