It is an official account, messaging and security app—not a mobile game marketplace. The separate Epic Games Store for Android is still downloaded from Epic’s website, while Fortnite has its own Google Play listing.

| Epic Games app | Google Play | Epic account access, cross-platform text chat and Epic Authenticator |

Epic’s January announcement describes the Google Play app as globally available. The announcement does not change the identity of the separate storefront.
What the Epic Games app on Google Play actually does
The Google Play listing identifies the package as com.epicgames.ega and describes a social and account-security tool. Its features include:
- Cross-platform text chat with Epic contacts.
- Group chats with up to 16 members.
- Notifications for new messages and access to the previous 30 days of chat history.
- Epic Authenticator for two-factor authentication, login codes and one-tap verification.
- Account access across PC, console and mobile platforms.
The listing explicitly warns: “The Epic Games app does not include a mobile games store.” It is therefore not a launcher, game library or replacement for Google Play.

What it cannot install
Installing the Google Play app will not add Fortnite, Fall Guys, Rocket League Sideswipe or any other game catalog. It also does not turn Google Play into an Epic storefront. Use the separate product that matches the game or service you want.
Which app should you install?
For chat or Epic Authenticator
- Open Google Play and search for Epic Games.
- Check that the developer is Epic Games, Inc. and that the description mentions text chat and Epic Authenticator.
- Install the app and sign in to your Epic account.
- Use Epic Authenticator and enable the desired notifications or verification settings. Installing the app alone does not enable two-factor authentication; confirm that it is active in your Epic account’s security settings.
Use the official Google Play listing, rather than an APK mirror.
For the Epic Games Store
- Open Epic’s official Android download page.
- Choose the Android installation option and download the store app.
- If Android displays a security prompt for an app from that source, follow the device’s installation instructions.
- Sign in, then browse and install supported mobile games from the store.
For Fortnite
- Search Google Play for Fortnite.
- Verify that the developer is Epic Games, Inc. and that the listing is the game, not the account app.
- Install the separate Fortnite listing.
Epic announced Fortnite’s worldwide return to Google Play on March 19, 2026—two months after the Epic Games app launch. Those are separate events.

Availability and Android requirements
Epic describes both the Google Play app and its Android store as worldwide offerings, subject to applicable law, regional requirements and device restrictions. Epic’s mobile FAQ notes that some places, including North Korea and Iran, may be excluded by legal restrictions: Epic mobile FAQ and the Epic Games Store FAQ.
For the Epic Games Store app itself, Epic lists Android 8 (API level 26) as the minimum, recommends Android 14 (API level 34) or later for optimal performance, and says the store app needs about 25 MB of storage. These figures do not guarantee that Fortnite or another individual game will run well; each game has its own hardware and storage demands. See Epic’s Android download page and platform support page.

Cost, rewards and privacy
Both the Google Play Epic Games app and the Epic Games Store for Android are free to install. Games may be free or paid, and free-to-play games can offer optional purchases. Epic advertises 5% to 20% back in Epic Rewards on eligible Epic Games Store purchases, subject to its terms; that offer should not be interpreted as applying to every Google Play transaction.
Google Play’s current data-safety panel reports the developer’s declarations that no data is shared with third parties, while the app may collect personal information, messages and other data. It also reports encryption in transit and a request-to-delete-data option. These are developer-provided declarations, not an independent privacy audit. The listing can change over time.
Why Epic put this app on Google Play
The Google Play release gives Android users a convenient official route to Epic’s account and social features, including a dedicated authenticator outside a game client. It also arrives amid Android distribution changes associated with Epic’s litigation against Google. Google’s policy update says developers can communicate about apps or transactions outside Google Play and link users to outside downloads and transactions. That policy context does not mean Epic’s entire game store launched inside Google Play.

Common problems and the correct fix
“I installed Epic Games but cannot find Fortnite.”
That is expected: the Google Play app has no mobile games store. Install Fortnite from its separate listing or install the Epic Games Store from Epic’s Android page.
“Google Play shows Epic Games, but not Epic Games Store.”
The result is probably the account, chat and authenticator app. Epic distributes the mobile storefront from its own Android download page.
“The Epic Store installation is blocked.”
Check the Android version, device-management policies, installation permissions, country availability and device compatibility. Use Epic’s support information rather than downloading an unofficial APK.
