Razer’s Boomslang Gaming Mouse Is Back for $1,337—but It’s a Collector’s Edition

Razer’s Boomslang revival combines modern wireless gaming hardware with a retro shell, a display frame and a $1,337 collector’s price.

Razer is bringing back the Boomslang as a modern wireless mouse limited to 1,337 serialized units worldwide. The reported U.S. price is $1,337, a nod to “1337,” or “leet”—old gaming and internet shorthand for “elite.” The package includes a Mouse Dock Pro and an illuminated display frame, so this is aimed as much at collectors as at players. Its headline specifications are contemporary; its price is not a performance-value proposition.

What is Razer bringing back?

The Razer Boomslang 20th Anniversary Edition pairs a Boomslang-inspired, transparent, ambidextrous shell with newly modernized internals. It is not a reissue of the original mouse’s ball-tracking electronics. Razer announced the edition on December 9, 2025, describing a worldwide run of 1,337 individually serialized units. Razer’s announcement and product page present it as a limited commemorative release, rather than a regular mass-market model.

The “first gaming mouse” wording needs care. Razer calls the Boomslang the world’s first gaming mouse, but that historical label is not settled: other products, including Logitech’s Wingman Gaming Mouse, complicate the claim. It is safer to call the Boomslang one of Razer’s foundational early gaming mice than to treat the company’s description as an uncontested fact. Tom’s Hardware’s historical context discusses the competing claims.

Why does it cost $1,337?

The reported U.S. price mirrors the run size: $1,337 for 1,337 mice. “1337” represents “leet,” a stylized spelling of “elite” that became part of early online and gaming culture. The number turns the price into a scarcity-and-nostalgia reference, not a measure of how much better the mouse plays. Tom’s Hardware reported the price and explained the reference on February 5, 2026: its report on the edition.

What comes in the box?

Razer’s product page lists a presentation-oriented bundle, not just a mouse and cable:

  • Boomslang 20th Anniversary Edition mouse
  • Razer Mouse Dock Pro
  • USB Type-A-to-Type-C cable for the dock
  • Glass mouse feet
  • LED collector’s display frame containing the mouse’s internal components

The frame makes display part of the purchase proposition. The dock is also functionally important: Razer says the mouse charges exclusively through the included Mouse Dock Pro, which serves as its dedicated wireless receiver. The product’s official page gives the bundle and charging details.

What are the modern specifications?

Razer’s support documentation lists a Focus Pro 45K Optical Sensor Gen-2, Gen-4 optical mouse switches and wireless polling up to 8,000 Hz when used with the Mouse Dock Pro. These are high-end gaming features, but maximum DPI and polling rate are not automatic improvements to aim; their usefulness depends on the player, game, display, frame rate and settings.

Feature Razer-listed specification
Sensor Focus Pro 45K Optical Sensor Gen-2
Maximum sensitivity 45,000 DPI
Maximum speed 900 IPS
Maximum acceleration 85G
Switches Razer Optical Mouse Switches Gen-4; claimed life of 100 million clicks
Wireless polling Up to 8,000 Hz; 0.125 ms polling interval at that rate
Form True ambidextrous
Lighting Razer Chroma RGB, nine-zone underglow
Software Razer Synapse 4 for advanced configuration
Charging and receiver Magnetic wireless charging through the included Mouse Dock Pro
Programmable controls Product page says eight customizable controls; support specification table says six programmable buttons

The button count is inconsistent across Razer’s own materials. Its marketing page describes “8 programmable controls,” while the support table says “6 programmable buttons.” The available descriptions do not establish whether the difference comes from counting conventions, so neither figure should be treated as a definitive reconciliation. How does it differ from the original Boomslang?

The original Boomslang, dating to 1999, was associated with ball-based tracking. The anniversary model replaces that system with optical tracking and switches, wireless connectivity, magnetic dock charging, RGB lighting and modern configuration software. It is best understood as a modern gaming mouse in a historically inspired shell, not a technical reproduction.

PC Gamer’s comparison lists the original Boomslang 2000 at about 140 g and the anniversary model at about 110 g, with the same listed dimensions of 138.4 × 81.9 × 34.5 mm. Those figures come from that publication’s comparison, not a claim that every original-era Boomslang configuration had identical measurements. PC Gamer’s hands-on comparison provides the figures.

What does “20th anniversary” mean?

The anniversary label can sound as if it marks 20 years since the original Boomslang, but that mouse dates to 1999. The edition was announced in 2025, and the anniversary framing appears to refer instead to the modern Razer company’s 2005 establishment or refounding. That distinction matters: this is a celebration of Razer’s modern-era milestone using a landmark product from its earlier history, not a literal twentieth anniversary of the Boomslang’s 1999 debut. PC Gamer’s historical account covers the origins and framing.

Is it worth buying for gaming?

It has legitimate modern gaming hardware, but the $1,337 price is principally for limited production, serialization, nostalgia and presentation. A conventional flagship gaming mouse is the practical alternative for someone who wants wireless performance, a capable sensor and high polling without paying for this edition’s scarcity and display package. The Boomslang is not a like-for-like value upgrade over ordinary gaming mice.

The shape may matter more to everyday play than its headline sensor figures. The anniversary edition retains a late-1990s-inspired silhouette; PC Gamer’s hands-on coverage found its ergonomics uncomfortable. That is one reviewer’s experience, not a universal verdict, but it is a meaningful uncertainty for anyone planning to use a costly collectible as a daily mouse. PC Gamer’s hands-on account discusses the shape.

  • It could suit: collectors who remember the original, Razer enthusiasts, and buyers who value numbered hardware and display presentation as much as daily use.
  • It is a poor fit for: players focused on performance per dollar, anyone who needs proven ergonomic comfort, or buyers who do not want charging and receiver functions tied to a dedicated dock.

Availability and what to check before paying

Razer says the edition is sold exclusively through Razer.com and select RazerStores while supplies last. On September 29, 2026, the Razer US product page showed a “Notify me when it drops” form rather than a normal live checkout listing. That is a notification option, not confirmation that a unit can be bought now; stock and purchase paths may differ by region. Check the official product page for the current status rather than treating the reported price as proof of availability.

The $1,337 figure is reported U.S. pricing, not a guaranteed final checkout total: applicable tax and shipping may be additional. Before ordering, confirm that the listing is for the serialized anniversary edition and includes the Mouse Dock Pro and display frame. Warranty and return terms vary by region; Razer’s U.S. page lists up to three years of warranty and 14-day risk-free returns for purchases directly from RazerStore, but buyers should verify the terms shown for their own location. A limited run also makes it unwise to assume that a standard, cheaper Boomslang edition will follow.
