You can’t download Discord as a standalone app from the PlayStation Store. Link your Discord and PlayStation Network (PSN) accounts instead: PS5 lets you join Discord voice chats from the console, while PS4 can share your game activity and online status but does not support native Discord voice chat. PlayStation Plus isn’t required for this integration.
What Discord features work on PS4 and PS5?

Discord describes voice-chat transfer as a PS5 feature; its PlayStation activity-sharing integration covers PS4 and PS5. See Discord’s PlayStation Network FAQ.
What you need
- A Discord account and a PSN account.
- An internet-connected console. For PS5 voice chat, install the latest available PS5 system software.
- Discord on a phone, computer, or web browser for account linking and, if you prefer, transferring a call to PS5.
A headset or compatible microphone is optional; PS5’s controller has a built-in microphone. You do not need a separate Discord app on the console, Discord Nitro, a capture card, or PlayStation Plus for the integration. Some features may depend on region and account type: PlayStation says availability requires both PlayStation and Discord services to be available in your region. Sony’s PS5 voice-chat instructions specify the system-software requirement.
How to link Discord to PlayStation
Use whichever route is convenient. Menu labels can vary slightly by software version, country, or account; look for Connections, Linked Services, or Discord if a label differs.

Link from Discord
- Open Discord on a supported mobile, desktop, or web version.
- Go to User Settings > Connections, then select Add.
- Choose the PlayStation logo, sign in with the PSN account you use on the console, and confirm the connection.
Link from PS5
- Press the PS button and open Game Base.
- Open the Discord tab and select Link Account.
- Follow the on-screen instructions and sign in to the intended Discord and PSN accounts.
Link through PlayStation Account Management
- Open PlayStation’s account-linking instructions and go to Account Management.
- Choose Linked Services, select Discord, and follow the prompts.

How to use Discord voice chat on PS5
After linking your accounts, you can join from Game Base or move a chat you already joined on another device to the console.

Join a server voice channel from PS5
- Press the PS button to open the control center.
- Select Game Base, then open the Discord tab.
- Choose a server and available voice channel, then select Join.
An active call appears as a voice-chat card in the control center, where you can access chat controls.
Transfer a call from Discord mobile
- On your phone or tablet, join the server voice channel or direct voice chat in Discord.
- Open the voice-chat controls and select Join on PlayStation.
- Choose your linked PS5 and select the transfer option.
- On the console, open the notification or Discord voice-chat card if prompted.
Transfer from Discord desktop or browser
- Join the desired voice channel in Discord on your computer or in a supported browser.
- Open the channel’s additional options and select Transfer Voice to PlayStation.
- Choose the linked PS5 and confirm. Open the console’s Discord voice-chat card if prompted.
The button or menu location can differ between Discord desktop and browser versions.

Start a direct voice chat from PS5
- Press the PS button, open Game Base, and select the Discord tab.
- Choose Direct Voice Chats, then select a previously contacted player or group.
- Select Start Voice Chat. If the chat is already active, choose Join.
For the current console paths and voice-chat controls, see Sony’s Discord voice-chat guide. Discord voice chat and PlayStation party voice chat are separate: you cannot be in both at once, so leave one before joining the other.
How to use Discord with PS4
PS4 account linking can show your online ID, current game, and activity duration on Discord when visibility settings permit it. It does not let you join or transfer a Discord voice chat on the console. For voice, use Discord on a phone, tablet, computer, or another supported device while you play.

Choose an audio setup
- Simplest: Run Discord on a phone or computer and connect a headset to that device. This keeps voice chat separate from PS4 game audio.
- One headset for game and chat: Use a compatible dual-input headset or audio mixer that combines PS4 audio with phone or computer audio. Check that the equipment supports both sources at the same time; many ordinary phone headsets do not.
- Computer-based mixing: Run Discord on a PC or Mac and use a compatible mixer or audio interface. This is an optional workaround, not an official PS4 Discord feature.
Show your PlayStation activity on Discord
- In Discord, open User Settings > Connections and select the PlayStation connection.
- Enable the available options to show your PSN account on your Discord profile and to show PlayStation as your status.
- On PS5, if your activity still does not appear, go to Settings > Users and Accounts > Privacy > View and Customize Your Privacy Settings. Set visibility for online status and current activity to Anyone if you want Discord to display them.
The Anyone privacy choice affects who can see that activity; it is not described as a general requirement for voice chat. PlayStation lists the activity-sharing options and privacy requirements in its linking guide.

The Discord tab is missing or a chat will not transfer
- Confirm the PS5 is online and has the latest available system software.
- Check that the console and Discord app are signed in to the accounts you intend to use, and that those accounts are linked.
- Check whether parental controls, account type, age, or regional availability affect access.
- If the link predates voice-chat access or appears connected to the wrong account, unlink and reconnect the accounts using the steps below.
Accounts will not link, or the wrong account is connected
- Confirm which PSN account is signed in on the console and which Discord account is active in the app or browser.
- Unlink PlayStation from Discord. If Discord remains listed on PlayStation, on PS5 go to Settings > Users and Accounts > Linked Services > Discord > Unlink Account.
- Restart the console and Discord app, then link the intended accounts again.
- Check that your region and account type support the feature.
You cannot hear others or your microphone does not work
- Check the headset connection and its mute switch, then confirm the console microphone is not muted.
- Open the Discord voice-chat card and check microphone settings, input level, and voice-chat volume balance.
- Make sure the headset is connected to the PS5 rather than still sending audio to the phone or computer used to transfer the call.
- Confirm that you joined Discord voice chat, not a PlayStation party voice chat.
Your PlayStation profile or game activity is not visible
- In Discord, check the PlayStation connection and its profile/status display options.
- Check PSN privacy settings for online status and current activity; appearing offline or restricting visibility can prevent sharing.
- After changing your PSN online ID, PlayStation says information usually updates after subsequent gameplay activity; reconnecting accounts may sometimes be necessary.
If these checks do not resolve the problem, distinguish an account or console issue from a local network problem or an interruption to PlayStation Network or Discord. Consult PlayStation support and Discord support for current service and troubleshooting information.

Account, recording, and availability limits
- Child accounts: Access can vary with age, location, and parental-control settings. Families should review Communication and User-Generated Content controls; restrictions may require unlinking connected social accounts before settings can be changed.
- Captures and broadcasts: Sony says Discord voice audio is not recorded in PS5 captures or broadcasts.
- Turning on a PS5 from Discord: To enable this while the PS5 is in Rest Mode, go to Settings > System > Power Saving > Features Available in Rest Mode and enable Turning On PS5 from Network.
